I gave the ok on my part, I don’t know about him but right now all I know is [Randy Couture] is most likely my first victim. All he’s got to do is sign the contract and we’ll get it onâ€￾ stated Toney.

The former IBF boxing champion claimed that his preparation leading up to his MMA debut will be sufficient enough to thwart any offense Couture may attempt to mount.

“All fights start standing and that’s my comfort zone, that’s my domain and he’ll have to enter it. If he thinks he can just walk up on me and take it to the ground he’s got another thing coming, I’ll toss a bitch to the side if I have to. It doesn't matter if it’s MMA, kickboxing, hopscotch I got the highest fight IQ in the game period. Six weeks will be more than enough to learn the clinch game and all that, you feel me. I’ll be ready don’t worry about that, thing is it won’t even get that far I’m [going to] sit him down in the first minute. Even if it does go to the ground I was told my grappling is at gold belt level, so he’s in trouble pretty much everywhere. You see these MMA guys getting knocked out by sissy punches, well time to step up and fight a real puncher.â€￾

“I wanted to fight Couture from the start, he be calling me out and stuff so let’s get it on. I’ll fight anyone of these big guys in the UFC you know what I’m saying. I don’t want to waste my time on anything but the best so then afterwards they can’t make no excuses.â€￾

MMA has nothing to gain and everything to lose here.

    James is SHOT.

But if he wins, so is MMA's credibility!

    Gold belt baby. :bears:

I wish Toney put in more than 6 weeks but if he KTFO Couture it would be even more awesome.

Randy is a shot MMA fighter.

    James is a shot boxer.

Randy still beats some top ranked cage fighters.

James lost to Sam Peter.

True but james isnt really a natural heavyweight. He was always a small heavy. Peter is really big. Randy isnt beating anyone worth more than Peter at this point.

I'm just saying, if James loses in MMA, it's nothing. He's a shot boxer. He's old with no ground game.

If he wins? Wins a few fights in a row? Then these MMA guys are garbage. Even more than someone like me thought, and I really think most of these guys are garbage.

What does UFC gain from this? Toney isn't even that well known.

I hope Randy grows some balls and stand with Toney for a little bit at least. I would love to see if a boxer's striking is light years ahead of mma striking as some claim.

It's actually possible. A specific gameplan Randy might have is to go for a low kick which takes Toney's attention away, and then Randy comes over with a right hand. Randy is still 220lbs solid. And a punch from a 220lber who is trained and with 4 ounce gloves is still going to hurt.
    Should be interesting.

But wouldn't Randy be giving away all of his advantages? Randy's game is to manipulate the upper body of the opponent and either maul them on the ground or on the fence. If I was Randy, I wouldn't give Toney an inch. Being brave against a pro boxer is asking for trouble.

They're both forms of combat. This is not a Michael Jordan playing baseball. This is fighting.

Agreed. Toney has mastered one aspect of fighting. That being the art of boxing. Couture is a master in Greco Roman wrestling. It's a clash of styles.

Well the legend lost to a n00b who was 2-1.

It would be hilarious if he lost to a shot slurring boxer who's 0-0.:crying::laughing:

That's what I mean. He's acting like Toney is way out of his element. It's still fighting and the fight is gonna start 100% in Toney's element. Every single round in a matter of fact will start 100% in his element. Toney should forget learning submissions and kicking and all that shit and concentrate on stuffing takedowns. If I were his coach I'd make him train takedown defense 8 hours a day.

Yeah, Toney can't even speak coherently anymore. He's completely done. This shouldn't go well for him at all.

Yeah, he's going to get tooled, but if he managed to pull it off it would be one of the funniest things in the history of the universe.
