    but both scenerios are conected. Why would he wanna quit on the ground if everything was going according to plan during the fight?

    I just dont' see what he would gain by trying to pull this off?

    Maybe thought he was ahead on the cards and wanted a win right then and there? It's not like he was schooling Paul, it was give and take.
