Which world champion between 2000-2009 has faced the toughest opposition for that decade, in your view?

    Pac, clearly.

although after saying that, let me retract it - actually it was Oscar by a landslide.

It's close but I still would say Pac's opp is better within that timeframe

You're right actually, it's fairly close, but I'd give it to Oscar.

Pac, Floyd, Hopkins, Mosley x2, Vargas, Mayorga
    vs
Old Oscar, Cotto, Hatton, Barrera, Morales, Marquez

Pac's list is a little deeper, but Oscar's list has the 3 greatest fighters of the decade, plus Mosleyx2 & Vargas. Definitely Oscar.

    DLH for sure

i can't wait until lil Floyd whups Pac

I would have said De La Hoya, for what it's worth.

Yeah but Oscar lost to Pac, Floyd, Hopkins, Mosley X 2. Are we giving credit to guys for LOSING their biggest fights?

Shit Marvis Frazier faced both Tyson and Larry Holmes....the two best heavyweights of the 80s. Perhaps Marvis Frazier should be given credit for facing tough opposition? :notallthere:

What does the thread title say, though?

So you're voting for Pac or looking for a way to toss Floyd's name into the conversation?

Fair enough...but I think it's meaningless. The more meaningful statistic is quality of opposition beaten, not faced.

I'm saying that Oscar's not a good choice.

    So start that thread.

This one is tough for me. Fighting Floyd probably tips it in Oscar's favor.

According to this thread I guess Oscar.

    Perhaps Hopkins?

De La Hoya, Trinidad, Taylor, Calzaghe, Tarver, Jones, Wright....

Read (past tense) the question, Hut!

    I've offered my list.

Fair enough, it's more a trvia type question than a measure of greatness, really. Kinda like the threads that get started asking who has the most impressive 'NAMES' on his resume and Camacho's name always comes up since he's got Duran, Leonard, Oscar, Tito & Chavez on there. Or Holyfield since he has Holmes & Foreman on his, too. Just trivia stuff.

Like I said recently - there are only so many conversation topics we can work with here after all this time!

Sweet Reggie Strickland. Competition doesn't get much sterner.

He had 80 fights from 2000-05, and faced Tavoris Cloud, James Butler, Chris Lytle, Raul Frank, Anthony Bonsante, Alex Bunema, Randall Bailey, Grover Wiley, Donnie Penelton, Fernando Zuniga, and Charles Brewer.

At least DLH could fight. Reggie got in there with featherdusters on the ends of his wrists and got clubbed half to death. He usually went the distance with those name fighters as well.

Donnie Penelton is right up there. Eric Crumble almost made the cut, but he did the 'el foldo' in everyone of his pro fights.

On second thought, Eric Crumble must have had the sternest competition ever. He got stopped by everyone he faced. That's a record that may never be beaten. "The Anti-Marciano". :bears:

No fucking way it's Pacquiao. DLH fought Floyd and Hopkins, two of the greatest. That being said DLH lost to his great competition so all this shows is only that everyone and their mamma wanted to fight DLH.

    What about Felix Trinidad????

    What determines "Stern Competition".

I mean, Patrick Charpentier was a tough fight, if your name was Joe Palooka.

Ike Quartey was a tough fight, if your name was Oba Carr.

But Ike was a somewhat less-stern opponent if your name was Oscar De La Hoya.

Why not? I think a case can be made for Tito.

Not a good one. Hopkins, Wright & Vargas. He's maybe top 5 but he doesn't compare to Oscar or Pac.

Oscar. The Hopkins and PBF fights clearly set him apart from Pac. If Pac fights PBF, then this can be re-visited.
