Just like there's no basis for the pussified opinion of Pacquiao fans like Fighter and Wagers saying Floyd beats Manny at 147 because is bigger but... Manny wins for sure at 135 and 140! Get this guys. Floyd at 130, 135, 140 and 147 would have a height, reach and strenght advantage because those are his characteristics as a fighter just like Manny would be faster and with a better punch output in all those divisions, even if Floyd was faster and threw more punches in the lower weight classes. Sorry for the rant but that's a BS argument from their part.
Below 147, Mayweather has every tool and then some, that guys like Morales and Marquez had when facing pacquiao.
I think Floyd beats Pac now, but at the lower weight classes Floyd whups his ass. Pac wasn't as complete in terms of his boxing ability, Floyd (and I've said this before) was HIGHLY underrated as a puncher at 130 and 135 and he threw combinations then. Wasn't as potshot savvy. if anything, Manny's fighting Floyd at the best possible weight. I think Floyd lays a massive ass whupping on him as you go down in weight.
it's just as valid as Fighter's baseless claim that Pac would somehow beat Floyd at 135-140. nothing to back it up whatsoever
Why was Pacquiao bullying Cotto and Clottey around the ring? Why was he dictating the fight at every turn? Because he was scary looking? Why doesn't the strength of Pacquiao's power punching come into this discussion? Pacquiao changes entire fights because he can annihilate people with his power. He looked stronger against Hatton and DLH than Floyd did - in fact those wins plus Cotto are THE WHOLE REASON 68% of this poll (myself included) voted for Manny Pac being rated #1 P4P right now. i just don't see how floyd has any serious size & strength advantage. he isn't a power puncher, he isn't some granite-chinned, indestructable force.... the guy is a finesse fighter with impeccable fundamentals and technique. risk-averse at times (too much for my liking) but a master of efficient offense and defense. he's not going to walk thru pac's punches, he isn't going to muscle him around in clinches... his size and strength will allow him to not be pushed around (like against hatton) but its not going to give him any advantage. if floyd beats pac it will be because he is the better fighter, or even because styles make fights and floyd is just a nightmare for pac - not because floyd is bigger or stronger.
GOSPEL... But the Thing is, PAC SAC Swingers/Floyd HATERS HAVE to PRE-PLAN their Post-Fight Excuses, AFTER Floyd Beats Pac.... RED:hammert:
So the fact that Floyd is at least 2 natural divisions bigger isn't an advantage at all? In the slightest?
It's a tough fight for Floyd of course against Manny and vise-versa. Manny overpowers his opponents with his intense style. He's very nimble on his feet and is difficult to get away from and in facing Floyd it sounds as if this style can only work, BUT, Floyd is a brilliant defensive boxer. He uses incredible technique using his upper body to avoid punches and remains in position to counter punch. It's a mouthwatering prospect and should happen for the fans of boxing. For all the ''What if Pac and Floyd met in the ring, who's style comes off best'' discussions - it will surely come down to one thing - Who has the better boxing brain? This question can only be answered after we find out the result of this fight (if it ever happens)
I think Floyd's size will help him to block, parry and slip most of Pacquiao's punches. Or he will be able to just walk thru them. Certainly, I mean we have all seen Pacquiao's punching power diminish as he has gone up in weight. Or, since Pacquiao is so small, he can unload punches on Floyd and being so much bigger Floyd will probably just be able to put his hands up and be unaffected by Pacquiao's offense. I see a rough fight where Floyd imposes his strength on Pac, and pushes him around in the clinches, bulling in with a joe frazier-esque offensive barrage... and it will be too much for the little pipsqueak. Floyd TKO10.
They don't see that Clottey would NOT tower over Mayweather. They don't want to see that 147 is the more NATURAL weight for Mayweather not Pacquiao, who has said this the top limit of weight he can go. They don't want to see Pacquaio's progression and choose to bring up fights of 10 years ago. What makes Pacquaio competitive at 147 is he fights like a cat against much bigger prey.
Right, so Pac isn't weaker, iyo. But wouldn't that be even more of an advantage for him if the fight took place closer to HIS natural weight than Floyd's? Like 135 or 140lb. Whatever way you slice it, Pac hasn't transcended the laws of physics here, he's just been able to outclass bigger guys who he's allot better than. And he has a style conducive to fighting bigger guys. But when he's in an even fight, the type where he can't outclass someone, then the other variables will become more significant. If you have 4 of a kind and your opponent has a flush, nothing else matters. But if both guys have 4 of a kind it starts mattering if one guy has 4 Kings and the other 4 sevens. These aren't excuses, they're just facts we should all acknowledge and anticipate having to weight appropriately WHATEVER the outcome of this fight.
I sure hope Floyd had fought and outboxed the shit out of Pacquiao at 130-135. Then after that we, if Pacquiao had gone the same way destroying everyone at 140-147 we all could've heard how Pacquiao was much more limited and unpolished at the lower weights but would beat Floyd for sure at 147. I mean, come on...
In my opinion? Honestly, you think Pacquiao is weaker than Floyd? I don't see it because Pac has been stronger than Floyd in fights at similar weights against the same opponents (Hatton & Oscar) or similar opponents at the same weight (Cotto/Mosley). No matter how you slice it, Floyd doesn't use his size and strength to beat opponents. His size didn't hurt him against JMM, and hell maybe it did give him a decided advantage in that particular fight because as people mention he didn't have to worry at all about JMM's power. That is simply not going to be the case against Pacquiao. I think Floyd was a better fighter with more pop and a tad more speed at 135. Since his size isn't a factor I think he would beat Pacquiao even more convincingly if they had fought at 135. Floyd has shown diminished power as he has moved up in weight, can you say the same for Pacquiao? Pacquiao has beaten 3 fighters in succession who are reknowned as strong fighters who for the most part use their strength in fights and overpower guys. Hatton usually forces his will on people, pushes them around, and bullies them. Cotto overpowers people with his strength, body punching and power combinations and Clottey is a big strong welterweight and Pacquiao has obliterated these guys with HIS power and strength and we are to believe he is going to be overpowered by Floyd Mayweather?
I picked Pacquiao as my number-one pound-for-pound, but I thought the Poll would read closer than it does.
