Forgive me if this has been done recently.

Now this thread is likely to attract clever cliches like "Jab beats speed"...."Timing beats Speed" etc from the Mayweather haters. You'll also likely read "If Vernon lands that uppercut or right hand on Mayweather like he did Mosley, it's goodnight".

    However

I submit to you that Mayweather is better suited to fighting Forrest that Mosley was, even prime Mosley. You see..like Forrest, Mayweather is also a competant boxer...better boxer than Vernon actually. Mayweather's jab is far superior to Shane's..and so we can't gauge the 1st Forrest-Mosley fight on what vernon would do to Floyd. Floyd is also lightyears more advances in the defense department..when compared with Shane.

So we have a boxing exhibition...a game of chess.

Vernon's height advantage (the height causing also a reach advantage) and Mayweather's speed and elusiveness advantage. Power is similar.

    Gimme Floyd by decision.

I think I'd lean towards Forest in this one by a 7-5 type of score. I think his jab would've befuddled Floyd, at least enough to bank 7 rounds. No knockdowns by either guy.

    Vernon beats Floyd.

Too tall, too skilled, too patient.

It's not all that different than Marquez not being able to get close to Floyd.

I'd lean towards Floyd by split decision. He's very adaptable I think he'd find a solution to the 'Vernon puzzle' by the skin of his teeth. Could go the other way, but in the end I just think Floyd's better so I'll go with him. Vernon was not much more than Mosley's Vince Philips or Junior Jones.

There are probably 10+ welterweights from the last 40 years I'd make at least even money or better against Floyd but Vernon isn't quite one of them.

I don't know...I still have fresh images of Floyd getting knocked backward and off his pivot foot by Oscar's jab. If vernon's healthy, I don't see him getting away from his jab like Oscar.

Vernon was so much longer than Floyd, it's difficult to see him (floyd)countering effectively.

It's pretty much a pick 'em definitely. Shame they missed each other by a couple of years.....not that Floyd would ever have fought him of course, but thats another, played out discussion.

Good analysis. I like Mayweather, narrowly, with him to do a little better against Forrest in a return fight. It would never be easy, & especially in that first meeting, I wouldn't be surprised to see Forrest take it.

I liked the part where you took legitimate arguments for Vernon and implied that anyone bringing them up are Floyd haters.

    A healthy prime Forrest??...

I think he decisions Floyd. His height and reach, jab, and patience as MUSZE put it would give him the edge.

    Styles make fights.

Timing only beats speed and jab only beats speed, if the "speed" guy has an inferior jab or timing. This isn't the case (up in) here.

It's like saying that Hearns would lose to Meldrick taylor because "speed beats Power". Well guess what.....Hearns ALSO has speed. So saying speed beats power and picking Meldrick taylor would be meaningless.

    This be my point.

Just asking a question. There was nothing mean in what I asked. I didn't say what you said was "rubbish" or "nonsense", I didn't slam you in the process of asking my question, say untrue things about you, call you a name, or put you down in a totally unrelated topic.

I asked a simple question. If you choose to get all bent out of shape and hostile about it...that's on you.

But...you are putting down "haters" in this topic for using cliches when you repeat a particular cliche over and over again.

And...if I really am looking to pick a fight with you, there will be ABSOLUTELY no doubt about it. I'm not all that subtle.

I'm not too subtle either so just answer the goddamned question about who wins the fight and stop chatting nonsense about cliches!

Says the person who introduced cliches into the topic.

Anyway I have Forrest in a close one. His height, reach, jab and boxing skills will present many problems for Floyd.
