What's sad about is how openly corrupt they are. It's like they don't even bother pretending to look legitimate anymore.

Hopefully more and more fighters continue to stop paying sanctioning fees for these meaningless belts.

Not the strongest division out there, admittedly. This is ESPN's top 10 for that division. Neither Chavez Jr. or Margo are on the top 10

    #1: Sergei Dzinziruk
    #2: Corey Spinks
    #3: Kermit Cintron
    #4: Alfredo Angulo
    #5: Yuri Foreman
    #6: Joachim Alcine
    #7: Ryan Rodes
    #8: Sechew Powell
    #9: Deandre Latimore
    #10: Vanes Martirosyan

Margarito never even looked good at 154, even with the loaded mitts.

If you would like a real quote from mE, how about "Sanctioning bodies are a net positive for boxing."

Far worse fighters have received #1 rankings by doing less than Chavez Jr. has so far. Let him have his title shot and that will be that.

Margarito would be favored over most 154 lbers. He is an active fighter. His suspension is over. Bitching about his ranking at #2 is just that--bitching. If you really think it is so outrageous, bet against him.

Good news. This will put on the pressure on JCC Jr to fight another contender and he'll get waxed.

Why would it? He got all the way to #1 by doing nothing.

They gave Chavez Jr. this ranking, so he can fight Duddy for the WBC silver title t.t.f.k.a. (the title formerly knows as) interim title. Of course Arum will sell that silver shit like gold and Chavez Jr. will never be allowed in the same timezone as the real champion Sergio Martinez. But a little bribe here and there, and Martinez will vacate his belt and suddenly Chavez Jr. will claim a "real" world title. I hope Duddy wins.

This entire thing is such horseshit.

How the fuck can Margarito be #2 at 154 when he lost not just his last title fight at 154, but also his last title fight at 147??

  23. Joe King

Then maybe a champion could clean his clock, it's all good with me. I just want it done. :cheer:

dzinziruk, foreman and spinks are or will be champs. cintron got his ass whipped twice by margarito. hardly any reason to complain for ranking margarito highly in that organization

    garbage in = garbage out

your premise (a loss should necessarily keep a fighter from being ranked), facts (except for 154 claim), and conclusion (Margarito should not be ranked #2) are all garbage

  26. steve_dave

How about getting caught cheating and not fighting for over a year?

  27. mikE

    mikE "Twinkle Toes" McJack

But he did just fight this month.

Cheating doesn't mean you aren't good. See Pacquiao, Hopkins, Holyfield, Abraham...etc.

I prefer that rankings reflect reality, i.e. the better fighter is ranked ahead of the lesser fighter.

I understand that it's not always done that way. I understand that I don't always know who is the better fighter. I understand that providing an incentive for fighters to move up the rankings by fighting other good fighters makes sense and often results in lesser fighters being ranked ahead of better fighters. I understand that politics, nationality, biases, finances, and dishonesty (among many other things) can corrupt rankings to some extent.

However, four sanctioning bodies and free trade tend to mitigate the damage done to the sport from having some guys get ranked higher than they probably should be.

To be the best, you don't have to fight the best or beat the best. It's just that fighting and beating proven fighters tends to be the best proof and provide the most justification.

  30. Irish

And losing a fight he was caught cheating in.

I mean, it is hard to rank Margarito #2 at 154, and even harder when one considers that the guy came off a loss in his last title fight at 147, a title fight which cast serious aspersions over much of his work in that division. Did he not already lost to Santos at 154, an inauspicious end to his first stint at 154?
