Excuse the poor grammatical use of the triple negative but I've got to say it like this: I don' hear nobody talk about him no more.... like I said....dude had his 15 mins of fame during the 24/7 buildup...now back into obscurity he goes. Does everyone still think he's the second coming of Emmanuel Stewart or is he just the crazy guy who likes to slap his fighters with towels when they're trying to train? opcorn:
Unless U're KNOCKING the btwn Rounds Advice Nazim was Giving Sugar Shane, REED ISN'T Sure What U're Bitching about... Nazim is 1 of the More DETAIL ORIENTED Trainers in Recent Memory...ALOT of Trainers R Glorified CHEERLEADERS btwn Rounds, but Nazim is Very SPECIFIC in what he Says...& More Times than Not, it's PRECISELY what his Fighter SHOULD B Doing... REED:kidcool:
OK I must confess..I like the dude. I was trying to stir up trouble, but I'm a fan. Would like to see more of him training to be honest
What was Nazim saying to Shane most often during the Mayweather fight? I don't even remember actually.
From what I remember, and I thought Nazim did well, was that he was dead on early telling Shane that he fell in love with single shots after hurting Mayweather. Nazim was urging him to throw combinations, use the jab and the power would come. Solid advice. Seriously, it's not like he could have said "Shane, listen up dude, you need to be faster, and, well frankly... a little younger.. Can you give that to me brother!"
He gives some of the best corner advice and doesn't BS the fighter. It sure beats the brrrrrt's by Floyd Sr or the "keep doing what you are doing" by Alton Merkerson.
I doubt he's going away anytime soon. Both his sons are decorated amatuers ROck and Tiger Allen. Rock beat Devon Alexander, Malignaggi, Lamont Peterson, Breidis Prescott etc...in the amateurs. The guy can really fight and he'll be champ one day. Not only that his two nephews also decorated amatuers went pro a couple of years ago Mike and Karl Dagan. Brother Nazim payed his dues and is no flash in the pan.
I had a dream that he was Cintron's trainer and when the boricua tried to quit, get himself out of a fight again with tears in his eyes brother Nazim slapped the hell out of him to the point where the other corner had to try and calm him down. Boricuas produce some tasty women but damn, a lot of faggots easy to hate too.
It often doesn't matter what midget is on your back, it is irrelevant to whether a certain daft equine would be able to defeat spectacular bid
I like the kid, but Rock isn't winning any titles. Tiger isn't really in the family circle. Bear, another son, will be a great trainer one day. Karl looks OK. Mike isn't making it. I saw them both along with Brother Nazim and his family a few weeks back.
agREED. Apparently guys think Roach and Mayweather are the only good trainers in boxing. They just have the best fighters which gets them more airtime. I don't particularly think Roger Mayweather is a great trainer per se, I chalk that up to Floyd's ability than anything else. I rate Roach higher simply because he's worked with numerous fighters and you can tell how he's helped shape and make better fighters. Folks erroneously judge how "good" a trainer a guy is simply by who they're working with...few years back Buddy McGirt was the pick of the month because of Tarver and Gatti...both of which were made fighters when they came to him. Before that it was Dan Birmingham because he had Winky and Lacy. For awhile Pat Burns was a name due to working with Jeff Lacy. Roger Bloodworth was another...worked with Lacy, Vargas and Bojado...all had the same flaw...no fucking defense but when they were winning he was a "good" trainer. Speaking on Nazim...I saw Karl Dargan fight as an amatuer and I think he'll make a good pro. He's got skills.
Since we're on the topic, Reed, which trainers out of Texas do you like? Here in NY, I'm REALLY high on Colin Morgan. This guy has done wonders with absolute crap. Here in New York, trainers always trash each other behind their backs. Colin Morgan is the only one that trainers go out of their way to compliment. I also like Victor Roundtree. He's a real pleasure to be around and is really well liked and respected by the old timers in the New York scene. He's got Danny Jacobs and Sadam Ali and works alongside his fellow trainers that used to work in the Starrett City boxing gym. Guys like Jaidon Codrington, Allan Green, Will Rosinsky, etc...
Oh, and since you mentioned Pat Burns....I still got a soft spot for the guy after getting screwed out of Jermain Taylor. I really thought Taylor could have been great. Funny thing is, just as he was fired, he was in the process of bringing on Bouie Fisher(sp?) to assist.
Those R just Nicknames...If REED Isn't Mistaken "Rock's" REAL Name is Kilimanjaro or Some Shit...Not Sure what the Others R Named... REED has Heard Stories of How Nazim would have Rock & Tiger Weigh-In for Each Other @ Ammy Tournaments...They Always STAYED AWAY from Other Folks @ the Major Tournaments, so Nobody Could Tell 1 Twin from the Other... REED::
REED's a Bit Biased, but there's Quite a Few Texas Trainers that he Likes...1st & Foremost is Charles Hatley's Father, Greg Hatley, Sr... During the '04 Olympic Trials, Hatley had No Fewer than 4 Guys in SERIOUS Contention...Charles, Greg Jr., Domonic Littleton (Now Deceased) & "Big" Greg Corbin... Corbin won the National Golden Gloves 1 Year & Lost in the Finals Another Year...6'4, about 265 & an EXCEPTIONAL Athlete...Corbin Would B a PLAYER in Today's Heavyweight Mix, but he Got Caught Up in a Drug Sting & is Serving Time in Federal Prison... Hatley Sr. Brought All 4 of those Guys Up from Scratch...Errol Spence, Jr., the Nation's # 1 Rated 152 pounder STARTED Out of Hatley's Gym...Hatley's Concentrated the BULK of his Efforts on Charles' Pro Career, yet he STILL Managed to Get an Unheralded Heavyweight Kid to this Year's National GG's... Out of the Houston Area, REED Likes Frank Tate, Bobby Benton & Jay Johns...Tate has this Bad Ass Russian Named Mehzhid Bektimirov who they Call "White Tyson"...Benton is Best Known for Training Chris Henry & Deserves TONS of Credit for Taking a Big, Strong, Tough, Country Boy & Making him a World Class Level Fighter...Benton Also has a Future STUD by the Name of Cornelius White (13-0, 12 KO's)... Jay Johns Works w/Highly Touted Top Rank Prospect, Omar Henry, who's Undefeated... REED's Closest Friend in the World is this 74 Year Old Trainer Named John "Lawman" Lawson...Waaaaaaaay Back in the Day, Lawson Boxed in the Military & Used to Spar @ Sandy Saddler's Gym...During the EARLIEST Stages of their Boxing Development, Lawson Trained James "The Heat" Kinchen, Quincy Taylor and Russell Mosley (Who Went On to Become Sugar Shane's CHIEF Sparring Partner for Many Years)... Lawson Also Trained Marcus Hicks, who's Now a Decent Mixed Martial Artist...These Days, his Prized Possession is this Tough White Kid Named Brent Urban...Urban had 8 Smokers Under his Belt & Turned Pro...In his 2nd Fight, he Lost a CLOSE Decision to Quantis Graves (Who Would have Made the '08 Olympic Team if Not for Deontay Wilder) IN Graves' Hometown & Many Thought Urban WON the Fight...Graves HASN'T Fought Since... Urban (6-2-1, 4 KO's) Probably SHOULD B a Lightheavy, but he Floats btwn Crusier & Heavy...N his Last 2 Bouts, he GAVE AWAY 40 Pounds to 1 Guy, & Half a Foot & ANOTHER 40 to Another Guy...He Got a Draw & a UD in those Bouts...The Other Loss on his Record was AVENGED 2 Bouts Later... There's More Texas Trainers that REED likes, but U'd Get Sick of him Rattling Off Names... REED:hammert:
Sly, at times, you are the perfect MORON. This guy also coached Hopkins when he whitewashed {ha ha} Kelly Pavlik. I should say that he had his 15 minutes of fame before his, eh, 15 minutes of Fame. So what if he "used a towel"....Charlie Goldman had Rocky training with a small bouncy ball. Big deal.
