Unless it's a wrongful dq or a robbery on the cards how else can not deserve a belt if they won it fair and square?
Montel Griffin Dq was proper. You can say he acted which he probably did but he was hit twice while on his knees. Proper call.
Consensus was at the time Sharkey didn't deserve the championship after his showing against Schmeling in their rematch, though there have been some conflicting accounts. Briggs certainly did not best Foreman in their meeting. That was awful officiating.
Cards were off but him as a winner I could see. I had it a draw. Foreman got a lot of rounds based on the sympathy for the 50 year old guy factor. Briggs was landing some good shots in that fight.
I could not see it, myself. Briggs struggled for rhythm throughout, & at no point did he appear to command the action, from memory. I can think of a lot of cases where there were very close calls which favoured a challenger, but with Boxing's traditional bent toward champs retaining their belts, out-&-out robberies favouring the challenger are comparatively sparse. Here are two more, though --- Trinidad against De La Hoya, & Mosley against De La Hoya in 2003. Neither win seven rounds on my card, no matter how many times I've gone over those affairs. Mosley was also enhanced, further cementing him as a most-undeserving individual for the 154lb. belt. I know this will sound like sour grapes, but I will never accept John's, "victory" over Marquez as legitimate. I thought it was awful, from first bell-to-last & beyond, when the scores were read out.
Julio Cesar Chavez didn't deserve the nod in his rematch with Frankie Randall. (I thought Chavez quit and then they took a point away from Randall.) Shane Mosley didn't deserve the win in the rematch with Oscar. (Not only did I think Oscar outpointed him, but Shane was on performance enhancers.)
This one takes the top crown for winning a title against Terry Norris in a fight Norris was sweeping the floor with him. Winning the title by faking unconsciousness was most embarrassing. And he pulled the act TWICE! After the rematch fiasco Santana was very arrogant claiming he was one of the best boxers pound for pound and was calling out Trinidad, Whitaker, etc to fight him in a big lucrative bout.:notallthere:
