Independent of Ring nominees, what's your pick for the best fight of the past thirty years?

I really could not decide, it's much too difficult, in truth. I'll just nominate my top three for each decade...

    Morales-Barrera I (2000-09)
    Carbajal-Gonzalez I (1990-99)
    Pryor-Arguello I (1980-89)

Of the 3 U Listed, Carbajal-Gonzalez I was the Best, in REED's Opinion...

    Agreed.

Out of those "nominated" i'll vote for Pryor-Arguello 1.

  5. Joe King

    Corrales/Castillo 1

I was just nominating the best three, IMO, from those decades. This thread is about nominating the best fight period. This one's free-ball.

best fight i saw from the 90s was chavez vs. taylor I. corrales-castillo is clearly the best fight i've ever seen.

For me personally, quality of action is at least as important as blood and guts. Arguello-Pryor I was the greatest combination of both I've ever seen.

    Chavez-Taylor I being the best, followed closely by Arguello-Pryor I and Lewis-Akinwande

    Pretty hard to separate those.

Agreed. Arguello-Pryor was for the welterweight title, Lewis-Akinwande was for the heavyweight belt. Both had the classic confrontation of fighting philosophies (chaos vs order / punching vs holding). The suspense was in the air in both as both included dramatic turns of events (Arguello taking command in middle rounds with Pryor coming back / Lewis controlling early, Akinwande brutally knocking him down, Lewis miraculously getting up and rallying). Both included the dark side of the game, the questionable tactics that demonstrated will to win. And fin ally, both got a sudden, decisive ending

It would be hilarious if some newbie boxing fan hadn't seen any of those fights and ordered all 3 based upon the above description.

Simon Brown vs Vincent Pettway is the greatest fight that I know of. I consider Corrales Castillo I to be a distant, but clear 2nd.

If Carbajal vs Gonzalez I had been switched around I might make it 2nd, but I hated Carbajal and Humberto was my favorite fighter.

Oh yeah...back when Carbajal Gonzalez happened, I called all over the state of Wisconsin (well, Madison and Milwaukee, anyway) looking for a bar that was televising it since it was not shown on big dish ppv. And I couldn't find it. Perhaps Exhibit #1 as to why the early 90's sucked when it comes to boxing. It was the first million dollar flyweight fight (well, jr. fly) which would be like a $2M fight today or perhaps more. Not sure what the Kameda's make in Japan, but I doubt that any of the Darchinyans, Donaires, or Mexicans make that kind of money these days.

Amen. It's my personal pick for fight of the decade.

  20. Fighter

    Fighter Undisputed Champion

A very UNDERATED fight that never shows up in any of the lists, which I thought was a great fight but not the best in any given year, and certainly not with the dramatics of a Corrales-castillo or Barrera-MoralesI:

    Tua vs Ibeabuchi

Diaz-Freitas was also an action packed, fierce and relentless war between two warriors with the will of Alexander the Great. Two monsters incapable of stepping back, not even once. Very underrated IMO.

I think it was a very overrated fight and it was only noted because of compubox stats. Two big guys slapped away at lightweight pace but there was very little skill and very little excitement included

    4) Sitchatchawal-Monshipour
    5) Chacon-Limon IV

I didn't catch this one live, & was hugely disappointed when I finally saw it. I can't see where the great thrills are in this one. That's just my take, but after all the hype I heard, it failed to light my fire.

Corrales-Castillo should be the clear winner if this was 1900-2009.

I'm sorry I don't share the universally recognized boxing taste where greatness of a fight is directly comparable to punches thrown:mj:

You know, I think I'm going to go with Morales-Barrera I as my favourite for the last thirty years.
