Tavoris Cloud vs Glen Johnson and Devon Alexander vs Andre Kotelnik Aug. 7 in St. Louis...The atmosphere for Alexanders homecoming and what will probably be the fight of the year on the same card. :bears:

King is far more fan-friendly than Arum. Arum promotes to stereotypes.

DOn King treats his fighters exceptionally well, he never tries to con them out of money and he is never involved in boxing corruption

He is far from perfect for sure but he gives good fights and better undercards and co-features. ....I think the days of him screwing people are over and his company is being run by mostly other people now who do better by the fighters.

King is barely even a promoter anymore. Can anyone tell me without having to look it up when the last time he was the lead promoter of a card?

I dont believe in heaven or hell, but if there were such places, Don King would be a front-of-the-line VIP in Hell... he is one of the most unscrupulous, evil bastards to ever breathe

Give me a break Barristan. Don King is a motherf*cker who has ruined many lives, especially those of his own boxers. Furthermore we know he's a corrupt SOB. The guy paid off the WBA to insert Peter McNeely into its top 10 rankings while padding his record with a complete bullsh*t but very marketable resume of fights. That was the biggest con job I ever saw in boxing history as they marketed this f*cker as Tyson's comeback opponent and forcing people to shell out $89.95 on PPV for this farce. Total corruption!

That was so blantantly obvious that even the general public knew that the sanctioning body was corrupt for "ranking" McNeely. That's how obscure McNeely was. It was made fun of to the 9th degree. They even tried market him like Rocky. At least the fictional Rocky was a game fighter:shit::shit:

I seem to remember that fight being broadcast for free on one of the local channels like CBS or NBC or something? :dunno:

I believe that one was on PPV but the Orlin Norris fight was free since people were mad about the McNeely "fight".

You're referring to Tyson/Mathis Jr which was free on Fox after the outrage over Tyson/McNeely. Don King completely milked the sh*t out of Tyson's comeback. Probably made a billion dollars matching him up with scrubs until Holyfield finally put an end to that farce, thank god. LOL!

Look at the cards he put together in the 90's

Tito fought Oba carr (both undefeated) on a chavez undercard

He put on top to bottom some of the greatest cards in history.

Don King was the best promoter in the sport's history. If you sign with him, and you're willing to fight, he'll keep putting you in with name fighters and giving you opportunities for title shots.

For every fighter he's reportedly "screwed", I could name 10 to 20 that benefited from having him as a promoter.

Also, McNeely signed with King before Tyson got out of Jail. He was limited. But he was a slugger and he could talk a good game. King originally signed McNeeley to fight Oliver McCall in McCall's first title defense. It was supposed to take place in Boston, because McNeeley was from Massachusetts. (And King wanted to hype the fact that McNeeley's dad fought Patterson for the title and now McNeeley was fighting McCall.) But McCall fought Holmes instead, and McNeeley got a half million dollars to fight Tyson.

I don't know how King hurt McNeeley. The guy never would've been considered for a title fight or would've gotten a half million dollars fighting anyone else .

Also, King knew the Tyson-McNeeley fight would be short (everyone with a brain did), so he made the Tyson fight a "featured attraction" and the Julian Jackson-Quincy Taylor middleweight title fight was the main event. He also loaded up the card with title fights. Bruce Seldon defended the WBA heavyweight title against Joe Hipp. Miguel Angel Gonzales defended his lightweight title against Lamar Murphy (good fight).

Also, I ordered the card, and it wasn't $89.99. It was more like $39.99, if I remember correctly. It was a very entertaining card. And the post-fight press conference was classic. I still have that on tape.

Most importantly, we also got the Homer Simpson-Dedrick Tatum episode from that fight. One of the best Simpsons episodes ever. Classic. (Homer enters the ring to the walkout music "Why Can't We Be Friends?"
