Due to the organization's politics, just two months after he brilliantly defeated Kelly Pavlik.

    Explain the politics in question.

It's because he won't decide which one he wants to defend, he has the 154 and 160 title. The rule is you can't hold both. Fighters don't fight often enough to defend two belts in different weight classes. He'd be holding one division hostage.

This is like when the Ultimate Warrior beat Hulk Hogan and had the World and Intercontinental championships. Maybe, just maybe, there will be a tournament!

Say he defends one every 6 months, that is a year between defenses in each weight class.

Dude, don't advertise here the fact you're a pro wrestling fan - it's embarrassing for all of us.

uh, yeah .... it's way more embarrassing for us - the realization there's pro wrestling fans among us. it's a threat to our credibility, in fact, that you're on here carrying on discussion...

I follow football, boxing, and MMA. So because I liked wrestling as a kid, my opinion doesn't matter? Get off of the dope, dope.

Yes, this is what I think happened. They told him to pick and he didn't. This isn't politics and it isn't anything unfair it is just making rules, following rules, and trying to keep things going.

To my knowledge, Martinez never indicated that he wanted to keep the WBO middleweight belt.

I believe that if Martinez had indicated that he wanted to keep belts in multiple weight classes and he had every intention of defending the WBO middleweight belt, he would have been given the opportunity to do so. I don't know this for sure, but I'm guessing.

In the past, I believe the IBF has thrown bullshit "defend our belt within 12.5 hours or we'll strip your belt" at fighters with multiple belts. That is stupid and contemptible. I don't see this being the same thing and I don't see this as being really criticizable. Well, maybe a little, but certainly it's arguable.
