I'd be a lot happier if Margarito wasn't given the exposure & financial boost this bout would bring. Cotto is never going to beat the hell out of him, anyway. Even in winning, Cotto wouldn't do so terribly convincingly. Margarito has plenty on his side to make even a losing effort far from comprehensive for Cotto, & the result is no guarantee at any weight. At best, Cotto could win a fairly tight decision --- poor reward for the benefits such a fight would bring the undeserving Margarito.

Hopefully, he will be starved out of major matches, as a result of his image & somewhat limited abilities. That may not be the case, though.

I rather Cotto fight Chavez Jr. first...then Margarito or Angulo

Cotto was outboxing the guy and making him look foolish for like 7 rounds. Once cotto slowed down alittle and marg was actually able to hit him with those loaded gloves, cotto began to be different. Without those gloves, i see Cotto winning an easy fight.

Cotto would be able to open up much more offensively against a Margarito without his wraps. He'd beat the hell out of Margarito's body and stop him. I think people will be surprised at how different this fight plays out without Margarito's wraps. Not only will Cotto be able to throw more and not run, but Margarito will have to put more on his punches, and therefore tire himself out (like he did against Mosley).

Remember how gassed Tito was against Hopkins, having had to put all of his might into his punches?

You can't mention Margarito wraps without bringing up Trinidad....two very different situations...

Trinidad was gassed vs. Hopkins? To me he look just like he did in the Vargas fight a bit tired...difference was that he was winning the Vargas fight going into the last round...and vs. Hopkins he was being dominated..

    Margarito doesn't deserve the payday.

He was being outclassed by Cotto the whole way almost before Cotto slowed down a bit and Margarito was able to hit him with his loaded gloves.

Fuk Margarito. He don't deserve shit.

Absolutely right. People seem to have forgotten that Cotto was boxing the living shit outta the cheating cunt until the plaster kicked in. It was 7-0 after seven rounds.

I get what people are saying about Marg not deserving the payday, but Cotto deserves revenge.

good fight, I'd like for Margarito to beat a meaningless opponent before getting a title shot but it's still a good fight that will answer a lot of questions.

Nobody even knows if Margarito used the plaster wraps in the Cotto fight, we can speculate all we want but keep in mind that Margarito's wraps didn't allow him to walk through 7 rounds of Cotto's best shots and Cotto has had a tendancy to fade late in fights. There is no guarantee Cotto ever beats Margarito.

no. but it wold explain a lot. not only does it explain what happened to Cotto's face, but it also explains why he spent the first 7 rounds running in fear of Margarito. Cotto has, "boxed" before, after getting tired, but he's never run like that from the very outset of a fight.

    1. Margarito deserves nothing from fighting, and should be banned as it is.

    2. Cotto was beating him handily in their fight. No doubt.

    3. The beating Cotto took vs Margarito and vs Pacman have reduced him to the state whereby Cotto may in fact be hurt as much by Margaritos non-plastered hands and thus....

4......thus it is possible that with the move to 154, the damage his body has accrued, and the fact that he would be fighting a 5'11" middleweight by fight time, Cotto could conceivably lose again to Margarito which would allow the cheat to claim he was clean for their first fight.

On that basis, I veto this fight.

Yep. I wouldn't expect Cotto to burn as much energy in a rematch and I'd think that would give Margarito even more opportunities to land his shots. Tough fight for Cotto and even tougher at 154, probably. Cintron 2.

Did anyone see how Margarito wilted under Mosley's shots? Did anyone expect that to happen, having seen him face Cotto?

one thing's for sure. people will pay to watch this fight. it's obvious that both fighters aren't the same as they were, but i think the severe punishment cotto took in the last two years may have attributed more to his decline than the effects of one-sided whupping margarito received from mosley.

honestly, i think this is a career ending fight for cotto.

whether margarito deserves this payday or not is another question.

The 2nd round could've gone to Margarito as he landed good shots in that round and the 7th round was when Margarito beat the shit out of Cotto.

I strongly dislike Margarito however and although I'm kind of against this fight happening since the Plastered Bastard will get a big fight, I must admit that I am also intrigued by it and surely would not miss it. I hope Cotto beats the fuck out of Margarito.

He makes me sick and so does some of his delusional supporters.

"He didn't load up, the traces of plaster that they found was probably calcium from the sweat on his hands".

I kid you not, someone seriously claimed that over at ESB.

Yeah that was when Cotto was at his best before the Margarito fight......Mayweather wanted no part of that version of Cotto. Now that Cotto has been in a few brutal fights and is past his best...NOW Mayweather might man up and fight him.....who knows...

The only difference between those two Cotto's may be you had that blind, puerto rican faith in him before the Margarito fight. After that reality sets in so you know what Cotto would be getting into against Mayweather. Cotto looked good and won another title in his 3rd division, if a fight against Pacquiao can't be made I hope we get Mayweather-Cotto.
