So says his father. Honestly.... this dude is a joke. Knowing Khan, he's probably praying that pillow fisted Diaz can somehow pull the upset. Though it'll be interesting, cause the winner of Marquez-Diaz is obligated to fight Kat, or be stripped.
Khan wants to fight the best but his management wants him to progress at slower pace and increase his visibility I guess. Marquez will be the one facing Khan and Khan will be the first man to stop him.
I thought Nacho shot down the notion that JMM would fight Khan at all? Staying at lightweight would be ideal IMO
JMM isn't even a proven puncher at 140. In fact, my guess is he'll be an average puncher at best at 140. Either guy is a pretty safe fight for the ducking Khan. First Barrera, now JMM. Fuck Khan. And fuck G. Oh, and fuck HBO.
If Khan wanted to fight the best he wouldn't surround himself with people who don't let him. Khan is responsible for his own career, and ultimately, it's him who would rather milk his TV dates. I can't say I blame him, but let's not pretend it's not his choice. It is. The real culprit here is HBO. If Khan were actually competing for air time the way most fighters have to, he'd have no choice but to fight a real opponent.
Marquez has no business above Lightweight at this late stage in the game, & is a naturally lean, athletic man. Making weight isn't a problem. There is nothing wrong with besting Diaz & moving onto the deserving & likeable Katsidis, who will take his chances to the bitter end.
I don,t like Khan a bit but it's ridiculous how some people will alway's criticize him. He's only 23 and already fought an handfull of good oppoenents ( Mallignagi, Kotelnik, Barerra that most here picked to beat him ). Hell, some people were praising Floyd for fighting JMM at 147 yet Khan is trashed for ( possibly ) fighting him at 140. Don't get me wrong, I'm not really excited about his choice of opponent, but he got more than enough time to change that and is may be doing the right thing by building up his skills in the meanwhile
i don't recall. especially barrera. he was a spent force even at 130. malignaggi had zero chance of winning. khan was the superior boxer going in and malignaggi didn't have a puncher's chance. not a hard fight to pick. kotelnik win was surprising in a sense that it was so one-sided.
Utterly ridiculous... Malignaggi has single digit KO's who thought he'd beat Khan? Who picked MAB to beat Khan? Only the most ardent Mayweather dickriders gave Floyd credit for facing Marquez. Get out of here with this bullshit. As said...by the time Ray Leonard was 24 he'd already faced Duran twice and was getting ready to fight Hearns. Hell, Oscar's resume by 24 was/is better than Khan's.
Not only is Khan's opposition hand picked, but I fail to see the talent in him that he's hyped to have by his groupies. To me he's just a guy with a decent jab, and fast hands. Nothing special. Alexander seems to have far more talent, and skill, and is around the same age.
He's British. And he's an olympian. And he's promoted by G who owns Ring, and probably part of HBO as well.
so because Khan doesn't measure up to 2 two genuine legends I guess we should just take him out the back and shoot him. Yeah? I bet his record compares favourably against most quality fighters' at this stage of their career. I'm not a massive Khan fan. I just dislike idiocy.
But yeah...Khan should stick to fighting junior welterweights, especially since he's a "champ". Or else move your weak ass down to 135
140 is one of the better divisions in boxing. It's idiocy to give the guy a pass to fight guys a division below. I've had this discussion with Slice for awhile now. There are decent guys to fight at 140. If he's so keen on fighting a fellow Golden Boy fighter, Victor Ortiz is ranked #3 in the WBA...we all know Maidana has promotional issues...why not fight the next available guy rather than teasing with Casamayor, Katsidis, Diaz or Marquez...all of which are a division below. Secondly....Prescott is at 140 now...if he's so improved that rematch would be huge. All of this has been dragged and kicked around for quite some time and I've yet to hear a valid reason why Khan's proposed dancecard is acceptable. The "youth" arguement doesn't hold water...Bradley (26) and Alexander (23) are around the same age ...even with that said...Khan and his camp want them to fight before he gets into the mix. Alexander has fewer fights and his last two fights against Witter and Urango saw him take on better and more dangerous guys than Khan has faced. He's not using a "youth" excuse. There was an article saying Gary Shaw was at HBO trying to organize a tourney at 140...you can damn sure guarantee Khan wouldn't get in the tourney thus blowing the whole thing up.
I think we need to create an Amir Khan hatewagon. You can be the leader. Personally I can't stand Khan. He's so cocky and has not accomplished jack shit. He needs to be KO'd again.
Want to add...Bradley has one more fight than Khan...in the last couple years he's fought better guys than Khan. It's also interesting that Bradley's next fight is against an undefeated welterweight while Khan's looking at light punching lightweights for his next scrap. Should say all you need to know.
Sounds like Golden Boy are taking a page out of the Frank Warren playbook, same way Warren had the 140Ib Khan fighting some of the best British fighters at 135Ib while keeping him away from contemporaries at 140. In this case, its Khan versus the lightweight golden oldies. I cant see HBO playing along though, and its not like he is anything close to a PPV attraction, especially in Britain.
you don't see HBO playing along? i hope you're right, but i wouldn't bet on it. HBO has as much to gain from Khan becoming a star (even if he's a phony star), as G does. It's why historically, HBO does play along. Remember Mosley/Diaz, Mosley/Taylor, Mosley/Stone and Mosley/Wise? All on HBO?
