So I'm sitting at work bored, looking forward to watching Fedor fight tomorrow, when I ask my co worker, who is a pretty big boxing fan, if he watches any MMA. He said he didn't, and only knew a couple of the more mainstream names (Lesnar, Kimbo, etc), but had never seen them fight. I told him if he had nothing to do Saturday, to watch the Strikeforce card, and I showed him this Fedor clip from youtube. His jaw actually dropped a few times as he watched it, and now he's like "Hell yeah I'm watching that on Saturday!" Anyway, this is an awesome montage... <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oDw3tUuoLpM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oDw3tUuoLpM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> TFK
Fedor's not gonna retire anytime soon. Don't buy into the nonsense. But if Overeem decides to go another 100 years between title defenses, you might be right. TFK
It's coming straight from his mouth. He wants to retire the greatest heavyweight that ever lived that ducked great fighters for 6 years.
Fedor is already the greatest heavyweight ever. In fact, he's already the greatest MMA fighter ever. Even if he never fights again. But back to the point, Fedor isn't retiring anytime soon. TFK
Anyway, remind me of all the great, fuck the very good fighters Fedor has fought....Big Nog.....6 years ago. How does that happen? AA and Sylvia are not even very good...
Overeem wouldn't last a round with Fedor. I don't know why people think it would be some great challenge.
So who should he have fought that he ducked? Hell, even when he went through the stretch of terrible opponants, Zulu to Choi, who were the top heavyweights he was 'ducking'? The top guys in the UFC at that time were Sylvia and Arlovski. Or maybe he was ducking the title contenders they were facing, like Justin Eilers, Jeff Monson and Paul Buentello? TFK
Yet Brett Rogers did, and was able to land some decent ground and pound on him? And all we heard about in the Rogers vs Fedor fight was how strong Fedor made him look, when in actuality, Overeem made him look as soft as really is.
Arlovski may have been better, but he is clearly shot now. He's been knocked out too many times. Sylvia was beaten by Couture, who Fedor would've beaten, but it would've been nice to see. At any rate, the HW division has stopped sucking, something can no one can deny, their is a ton of very good fighters now. JDS, Cain, Lesnar, Carwin, Overeem. Cain would destroy Fedor by the way.
But who did he duck? You said he ducked all the great fighters for the past 6 years. Who were they? TFK
All of the current fighters, basically. And Couture. And he fought Sylvia and AA, but not until after they were thrown out of the UFC, much like Werdum. Who arguably lost to Silva.
I still want to hear the names of all threatening HW's that Fedor has ducked? Seriously, only Couture is missing from his resume in terms of the Top HW's during his career. And the new breed of UFC HW's like Brock, Shane, JDS and Cain are too new to the scene to be considered guys that Fedor ducked. So again, give me the list of guys Fedor purposefully avoided?
You can't count the current fighters, because they just became top contenders this year. Hell, last year they were fighting guys like Denis Stojnic, Neil Wain and Stefen Struve. They were the up and comers, but they weren't the top guys yet. He tried to fight Couture, but wasn't able to due to legal reasons. So in other words, Fedor hasn't ducked anyone, and your argument is foolish. TFK
They've been on the scene for going on three years now...Fedor was a free agent recently and is going to be soon....still ducking.
That's moronic. None of the new guys have been around near long enough to be considered guys Fedor has ducked. Shit based on your rationale I guess Couture ducked JDS, Cain and Carwin also. What a joke.
They've been around for 3 years? I guess JDS should've fought Fedor in between fights with Joaquim Ferriera and Jair Goncalves? TFK
Couture didn't duck anyone, he fought Lesnar lost, and fled to 205. And last time I counted, this would be the SECOND time Fedor has been a free agent while all these guys are top 5.
Going on three years fool..I'll admit they got big as of recent. But the first time Fedor was a free agent, they were top 10, so that's not an excuse.
Gimme a break. JDS, Carwin and Cain just became top 10 ranked fighters this year or late last. Before that, the Top 10 was guys like Barnett, Mir, Nog, Gonzaga, Couture, etc. TFK
Anyway, I find it hilarious people are excited for this out of blind love for the fraud. Im fairly sure you'd all be just as supportive of a match between Lesnar and Big Nog, or Shogun and Rich Franklin, Anderson vs Sonnen, more like Anderson vs Michael Bisping. GSP, why fight Koscheck? Go the Fedor route and fight Matt Hughes or Ricardo Almeida. Frankie shouldn't fight BJ he should fight George Sotiropolous! Please, give me break.
He was a free agent during Fall of 2009. They were all top guys at that point. Carwin was supposed to fight for the title at that point, JDS had gotten through smashing Cro Cop, and Cain had run through I think Kongo..
And Frank Mir was a top guy at that point as well, and still is, he just happened to run into the top two guys in the division right now...now shame in that. Unlike Fedor who's fought Brett Rogers and consensus number TEN ranked Werdum...pathetic.
Here are the top 10 Heavyweights from October 2009 from www.fightopinion.com October 2009 Independent World MMA Rankings Ballots collected on October 13, 2009 Heavyweight Rankings (206 to 265 lbs.) 1. Fedor Emelianenko (30-1, 1 No Contest) 2. Brock Lesnar (4-1) 3. Frank Mir (12-4) 4. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1, 1 No Contest) 5. Shane Carwin (11-0) 6. Brett Rogers (10-0) 7. Randy Couture (16-10) 8. Alistair Overeem (29-11, 1 No Contest) 9. Junior dos Santos (9-1) 10. Fabricio Werdum (12-4-1) Carwin is ranked 1 spot higher then Rogers, JDS is 3 lower than Rogers, and Cain isn't even on the list. But yet those guys were more deserving of a Fedor fight than Rogers?
