He certainly is thoughtful in his approach. This is true.

He's like a cheetah that stalks Impala, except he watches about 170 of them gallop by before he decides to strike... oh, and he runs 12 MPH instead of 60

Although different styles they also could be put in the same class as JL Lopez and David Tua.

All excellent chins. Very hard to hurt but strangely easy to discourage.

I don't know if it's laziness or something else but all of the above seemingly could have been more sucessful if they simply through more punches. Not necessarily more power punches or more accurate ones.

    Just more.

    LaPorte was just strange

Look at him against Chavez, for example... he goes all out, lets his hands go and nearly beats one of the all-timers

Against Gomez, he acts like he isnt allowed to hit the guy!!! He should have clobbered Wilfredo and he could have if he had imposed himself... instead he behaved as if it was somehow disrespectful to hit Puerto Rico's (at the time) hero in the face

Sometimes it seemed like he was just waiting for the most perfect shot to become available... when he did, rounds went by and he lost

I still think LaPorte could have been a GREAT fighter if he had learned to just let those hands go... he had the tools, he was extremely tough, great chin, hard puncher, good skill set ... just didnt have the right mentality

While Lopez and Tua were hard hitters, neither had the skills of LaPorte, so I dont think either one of them would have gotten a whole lot farther than they did

but you are right, they were similar to LaPorte, part of the same odd family

When I think of, "hunter" in true, stalking fashion, like a predator, the first name to spring to mind is Joe Louis.

People compare Vitali Klitschko to the Terminator, who was of course played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who also played the part of Maj Alan "Dutch" Schaeffer, who killed The Predator. Therefore that settles the argument my friend...Klitschko > Louis

And was also one of the biggest believers in Kermit Cintron before the infamous ring diving incident. You could do a whole post of all the loser boxers Double L has solo bandwagoned for.
