Two blitz fighters. Does Shavers superior power win him the fight, or does Sanders' speed and toughness take out the less than stellar chinned Shavers? EDIT: Corrie Sanders of South Africa.
Tough call. Such limited fighters, yet so lethal at any given moment. Sanders was a more durable fighter, with a slightly more varied arsenal. Shavers has much better big-game experience, having fought vastly superior opposition throughout his career, & his one big shot is noticeably more punishing than Sanders' best salvo. Toss the coin, I decree.
hold on, is this Corrie sanders or Corey Sanders... two different fighters Corey Sanders was barely even a journeyman, just a gigantic lazy guy who fought on Fox and was beaten soundly by virtually every semi-name fighter he ever fought Corrie Sanders was the talented but crystal-chinned, windless South African fringe contender The latter may have a shot against Shavers... the former, not a chance in hell
and BTW, LMAO at CORRIE Sanders having "Toughness" ... how the fuck is Corrie Sanders any tougher than Shavers, where does he an advantage there? based on what exactly?
I meant Corrie, the south African, and how do you figure he was not tough? He took a beating againt Vitali.
how do YOU figure he had an advantage in toughness over Shavers? how many times has Sanders recovered from a beating to win a fight?
based on??? I ask again, how many times did Corrie Sanders come back from being down, literally or figuratively, to win a fight?
How many times was he down period? Not very many. Even in the Vitali fight, he was stopped because he's a blitz fighter who was completely overmatched, and it was still a courageous performance.
Who has he fought? Seriously He has been stopped four times... but who has he fought? Hasim Rahman? he was stopped... Rahman was hardly anvil chinned, and it was he, not Sanders who emerged the victor... the stronger man Wladimir Klitschko? who of course, has the chin of a nun and ahs survived mostly because A) He fights with extreme caution, B) his opponents are generally small by comparison and C) He is operating in the worst, most shallow heavyweight division in the entire recorded of boxing... his loss to Sanders illustrates his limitations rather than illustrating any great potential on Sander's part Outside of that, who do you got? Al Cole, Ross Purrity?? gimme a break... Sanders resume is a "Who's that?" of heavyweights You keep harping on on how wonderful it is that he was beat up for 8 rounds by a hard-chinned arm puncher... big fucking deal, he got NOTHING done in the fight, he was just slapped around Compare Sanders with Shavers, who fought Ali, Lyle, Quarry, Norton, Young, Ellis (he survived a barrage to win that one on a dramatic KO) , he got off the deck to stop the tough gatekeeper Roy Williams in the 10th round (one of those victories you overlooked in your "Shavers cant hit after round 7" diatribe in another thread where I debunked your position as I am doing right now... Does Sanders go 15 with even an OLD Ali and rock him the way Shavers did??? not on your life... If Sander's quiet bitchslap reception at the hands of Vitali Klitschko is so "courageous" to you, then by all means Shavers 24 rounds with Holmes (including one absolutely mind-numbing knockdown for his own part) must be off the charts by your measure of courage Shavers was KOd by guys like Ron Lyle (some suggest that Lyle was illegaly spurred to victory by loads of smelling salts when it seemed he was going to be stopped) in savage wars where he displayed true heart (in other words, he didnt quietly capitulate and take a beating, he actually TRIED to win) he was stopped by Larry Holmes in their second fight, all the while desperately trying to land the big right, bleeding like a sieve... he was stopped by hard chinned, far more experienced Jerry Quarry, a man 10000 light years tougher and more accomplished than Sanders Again, I ask, where is this evidence of a toughness advantage for Corrie Sanders here?
yes it is my opinion one, which in contradiction to yours, is supported by actual evidence similar to our debate in the other thread
yes because one guy being a better than the other has nothing to do with the outcome of a fistfight between the two how logical
Well you claimed that Lyle is much better than Vitali and Wlad and whatnot. All things you cannot prove.
definitely better than Wlad... Vitali, probably not the more improtant issue is that you claimed Sanders had an advntage in toughness in this matchup with Shavers, a preposterous claim that you have failed miserably to back up
It's my opinion, as well as the opinion of others like Ramon. Your opinion is your opinion but not at all fact.
who is Ramon? regardless, you are skirting the issue, avoiding the debate you made a claim, you did not support it with one iota of evidence, no reasoning was provided for your position the opinion I have posited is actually based in real events and supported with evidence this is the nature of debating, of having an INFORMED opinion, rather than merely a speculative assumption based on nothing
two people believing something is true doesnt make it true if three Puerto Rican guys start a Trinidad thread and insist he was a good boxer and then fell in love with his power, and one smart observer comes in and shoots the argument to shit with facts, does that mean the three Puerto Rican guys "win"? why not just admit you are in over your head and really don't know what you are talking about?
Please stop. It's getting embarrassing. You offered an opinon with nothing to back it up when it was challenged. And honestly, how many Shavers fights have you seen?
is it? I know that he was a contender in a division 50 times deeper than the one Wlad is a "champion" in... I know that he fought at least 3 or 4 guys who are better than anybody Wlad ever fought... I know that he hasnt been pancaked in two rounds by a never-was or stopped and exhausted in 5 against a lazy nothing of a fighter... I know he never had to be saved by his corner against a scrubby journeyman... You are confusing BIGGER with BETTER
It is a fair debate, between Lyle & Klitschko. To call it insane is somewhat harsh, IMO. Klitschko has the glossier record on paper, but CDogg already outlined how much ground Lyle makes up with his era. They both had some obvious short-comings, & some clear talents. I wouldn't call one dramatically better than the other. Both Klitschko & Lyle are good (not great) fighters.
Shavers was destroyed in 1 round by Jerry Quarry. It is not inconceivable that a guy like Corrie Sanders, who took a lot of legitimate bombs from Vitali, could stay in there just long enough, with his superior hand-speed, to land something big. That said I am still not sure just who this thread pertains to.
