Theres article on the scene talkin bout Pavlik(after ALL weight drained excuses after the Martinez fight).... might stay at 168 afterall.

It HBO wants him to fight Bute, or Andrade at 168, and seems like Pavlik doesnt want either of those matchups.

Pavlik's career is now a sham. The guy will starve himself down to 160, rather then fight men his own size.

Don't think it matters much which division who chooses. Fights against Abraham, Sturm, Green, Bute and Froch are all intriguing. Ward & Martinez are bridges too far. Dirrel would be definitely be favoured but not overwhelmingly.

Edit your post so it makes sense. Who would've thought - Pavlik a phony.

This is the only statement in the thread which doesn't make sense.

Nothing like a difficult opponent to get a fighter motivated...to get in shape and not have to fight him.

It says Pavlik might stay at 168 afterall. But it's clear he meant 160.

Maybe he'll enlist the help of Victor Conte...I've read he comes highly recommended these days.

I don't think Pavlik is shot AT ALL, he just can't handle intelligent movement. I usually hate the term 'exposed', but Pavlik has had that frailty well and truly exposed. He's like Tito - he has to set down on that lead leg for about 14 seconds before he throws. But against guys who're gonna be in front of him he can win just as many fights as before.

Which is why it's surprising he wouldn't jump at the chance to face Andrade. Right?

Yeah it looks like that is what was ment but word on the street is Pavlik is fighting Andrade as co-main of Bute/Brinkley in Oct. You heard it here 1st; but if you want to here from the promoter goto wwwfightfannation.com blog radio. It was the June 29th show.

I hate to say it, but it's these kind of matches that pisses me off about boxing. Brinkley? Are you f'ing kidding me?

I think Brinkley's actually the highest rated contender, so...blame the IBF for that one.

This is where I was going and I like the Tito reference.

Pavlik against Froch would be a blast while it lasted.

Pavlik would have made an interesting addition to the super 6 because I doubt he would have gone 0 for 3.

You guys can bite off cutting on Brinkley. He is a decent challenger and unlike a lot of Ibf challengers, he earned his shot. Jeepers fuck, he is 9-0 in his last 9 against some decent fighters. Go pick on someone who deserves it. Bute could be fighting some excellent fighters right now, but he didn't want to get involved. So he can fuck himself and wait.

Didn't 30G fought Brinkley recently ( I think he lost by ko to him ), he could give us some preview of the fight since he also sparred with Bute. But I saw Brinkley ko loss to Spina, and it was pretty shocking, maybe it was that he didn't trained properly or something, but it made me think he was going to be a gatekeeper at best type of guy.

BTW, I agree with your take on Bute, his coach basically admitted that they were gonna milk the title and that's the way they are going with fight like this.

Say what you want about Brinkley but he climb the ranks the ole fashion way and I've been in the ring w both guys; it will take a while for Bute to figure Jesse out.:crafty:

Right, but after two decisive losses in the last couple years you can hardly begrudge a guy for taking whatever fight he's most comfortable with right now. Im inclined to cut him a little slack.

For sure. And let's not forget, Andrade may match up well stylistically with Pavlik, but it's not like he's a soft touch. Ahead of the Bute rematch, he proved to be very durable, a hard puncher, and with good stamina.

But yeah. I can't fault Pavlik for taking on a fighter with a style that favors his, because in Martinez and Hopkins he certainly didn't.

I'm still not convinced Pavlik couldn't have beaten Martinez had it not been for the cut. Not trying to take anything away from Martinez - just saying - the cut was surely a turning point.

the cut was caused when martinez intentionally threw a punch and it landed. that's like saying if marquez hadn't broken vasquez' nose in their first fight, vasquez could've won.

the point is, Pavlik, who everyone says is a zombie and can't box for shit, was doing well, by virtue of his skills, before he was cut.

and the fact that Vazquez won the second and third fight i think illustrates well my point also.

  30. joony

    joony "Twinkle Toes" McJack

if pavlik can make 160 w/o hurting himself, i can see him beating martinez in a rematch, but that certainly isn't going to be the case since he's admitted that he's grown out of 160.

fact is that martinez was a much slicker, but smaller and much OLDER guy yet many people tabbed him to outbox pavlik.

i'd give kelly somewhat of a puncher's chance against bute, but i wouldnt hesistate in picking bute to win in a convincing fashion.

let's face it, aside from pavlik's wins over taylor, he hasn't done much else to show for, especially at 168 or above.
