    Easy there John McEnroe...

I don't necessarily agree with TLC on that point...but all you can ask of a fighter is to fight the greatest fighters of his time.

Hagler was old when Leonard fought him and Mosley was old when Floyd fought him. De La Hoya, Hatton, Castillo and Corrales were for their times and weights among their peers..equivalent (though not as legendary) as the guys you mention.

Like I said before...Larry Holmes didn't fight teh Frazier's Foreman's Listons and Pattersons....but he can still be mentioned in the same sentence as Ali for fighting the guys that were available to him at that time.

he's not saying that, he is saying Mayweather fought opposition JUST AS GOOD and LOOKED BETTER doing it... that is completely false

Hagler was first of all, a superior fighter to Shane Mosley, and secondly was nowhere near shot... he was still the best middleweight in the world by a long distance... you cant compare them

Duran was the p4p king when Leonard fought him, none of the other guys you mentioned were regarded at anywhere near that level when Floyd fought them

and the bottom line is that all four of Leonard's guys were clearly better fighters than the ones mentioned on Floyd's behalf

Hagler wasn't that good. And he was washed up. He got robbed anyway. Mosely is a HOFer and may have not been at his best, but he had come off one of, if not the best performance of his career and was dominated.

Corrales was IIRC, Marquez was. Pacquiao will be if they fight.

And no, not at all. That's just your over dramatic opinion.

This is simply one of the worst posts I've ever seen. "Hagler not that good?" Please just stop posting now. Really. Just when I think it's not possible you know less about the sport, you come up with a gem like this.

Mosley "may not have been at his best"?? Foolishness. Mosley was nowhere near his best. And of course, you try to make it sound like Mosley had just fought the overrated punching bag Margarito prior to Mayweather instead of mentioning the truth...that Mosley was 38 years old and was coming off an 18 month layoff.

Ugh. I know you are a Mayweather nuthugger and that makes it impossible for you to see things as they actually are, but you are even more ridiculous than ever here.

Yep. And no amount of Sly double talk will change that. He can try to grade Mayweather's opposition on a curve to make them appear better than they really are, but that doesn't change the reality that Leonard's opposition is clearly better than Mayweather's.

*Yawn* Hagler isn't that good. His notable fights are all against people smaller than him.

Margarito isn't overrated. He's overrated because Mosely waxed him but he beat Cotto's ass. Mayweather also hadn't fought a serious fight since the Hatton fight 2 years prior.

The more you post, the more you show how little you know. It's impossible to take you at all seriously when your agenda is so obvious and the extent of your knowledge of fights and fighters is so limited...as evidenced by your discussion with cdogg in the Shavers-Sanders MM. And just so you know...boxing wasn't just invented 10 years ago.

True, it wasn't much of a discussion as it was one-sided in his favor.

Yet he was arguing against the consensus. Funny how that works.

so when you said "3 actually" you were simply typing a non sequitir totally unrelated to everything posted before it?

Not exactly a non-sequitur. That'd be more of a red herring.

Nice try. It's ok to be wrong, really.

The bottom line was that cdogg offered a reasonable arguement backed by good examples and fights that actually happened and your responses were like "that's your opinion"

So hiding behind "the concensus" only works when you think it is in your favor?

Leonard was beaten by Duran and beaten to a pulp by Hearns at 147. I can't see either guy doing the same to Mayweather.

It always amazes me how boxing buffs seemingly brush over Leonard's loss in the first Duran fight. Like Ali in the first Frazier bout, this was the biggest fight in Leonard's career and he failed.

Mayweather has also had many big fights in his career and has always performed like a virtuoso. I know Oscar, Shane, Hatton and Marquez aren't exactly Hearns, Duran and Hagler, but Floyd never faltered regardless.

To me, when ranking greatness, that can't be dismissed.

And I don't even want to get into Leonard's timely retirements to avoid competition and the opportunistic ways he came out of retirement for fights like the ones against the aging Hagler or Donnie Lalonde for two belts at once or the Hearns rematch several years too late. Oh wait, that one didn't work out so well for Ray. He should have waited another 2-3 years.

Let's not forget Duran was smaller than him....I guess that only works though when spouting off anti-Floyd propaganda.

For that matter, Hagler's career was made off fighting guys coming up in weight.

Just my opinion, but I favour a narrow loss to Duran (as great as he was that night in Canada) over a narrow victory against that faded De La Hoya (albeit, not at Mayweather's best weight) as the greater achievement. It may not look as glossy on paper, losing a championship as opposed to winning one, but the reality is deeper than BoxRec...
