I have to admit a certain love for these types of fights....I try to envisage Green's ancestors arriving to Australia, in chains, full of tapeworm and hatred, spawing little Danny Greens down the line....and the Briggs....hardened, inbred Protestants, eeking an existence in some malaria swamp raising sheep. It's the bomb.
It was a war,.. a drug pumped cheating bogan bitch, verses a devious diving bogan bitch who snatched up a payday,.. People here are just as stupid as Americans pretty much, there's plenty of room for this disgusting sport to flourish in patches down under.
It´s a shame that the career of an honest man like Danny Green was ruined by the German boxing authorities. opcorn:
If you haven't seen the footage, Briggs dove like an Olympic competitor. Remember that famous line while Sonny Liston sits on his stool? "Cassius Clay celebrates his victory...goes into the record books with Corbett, Tunney & Braddock, as another who brought off one of the great upsets, in the Heavyweight history..." That reminded me of this, only Paul Briggs is joining Bruce Seldon, Cliff Etienne & King Levinsky among the great fakers, forever disgraced by a quit-job of irredeemable proportions. It was literally a glancing Green jab which ended the bout. Pathetic. Now we understand why he didn't bother to make the catchweight. Briggs arrived strictly for the cash, & should be ashamed --- & have his purse withheld.

What an embarassing dive
Maybe Danny Green really is that good...................:dunno: I mean, when you beat a legend..... ::
Surely, something will be done about Briggs' purse, here. They can't just hand over a cheque on this one. I certainly hope & pray he doesn't come out ahead.
I'm not so sure. The shot does indeed look like nothing at all, but the commentators raise some valid points. Only Briggs knows for sure.
It's a pity.....But Briggs is very clearly at the end of the line. He is all used up from the Adamek fights.
Either Briggs is the only guy to ever be stopped by a jab that barely lands or that was the most obvious dive I have ever seen. Makes you wonder, maybe they paid off Roy too! ::
:boohoo: Brilliant commentating as usual from Barry Michael,.. talking directly to all the suckers who purchased the event, "Yeah we forgot to mention that Paul was not right, he's essentially disabled, but we promoted this as an action packed block-buster with no clear favourite in order to steal money".
It looks to me Briggs even wanted everyone to see it was a dive, so it didn't look like he'd been beaten legit, & Green wouldn't have that over him. It all adds up. Not making weight. No tune-up opponent. What a low-life. It looks as if there will now be an investigation after all. I hope he doesn't see one red cent.
I wouldn't be so fast to call Briggs a low life. I hope he get's his money and goes away. If the networks are prepared to participate in this fraud and make a fortune, why shouldn't Briggs get his end?:dunno: The guy is basically a bum who went to war twice with Adamek, in thrilling fights where he laid his soul bare. He left it all in there. Now he is broke, shot and throws a fight. So what.:dunno: Jake La Motta threw fights, and he is HOF material. They made a film about him...a guy who beat his wife, introduced underage girls to men, threw a fight, asked was his steak done yet, etc.
I guess if seeing the sport being brought into disrepute means nothing to you, it means nothing to you. Obviously, you must see it as not bringing the sport into disrepute, or you wouldn't be making the contention you are. I can't see it any other way, though. Truly.
Mainstream media only really covers the big fights, or big scandals. I still think people aren't aware that Margarito loaded his gloves.
what a farce. His purse should be witheld, and all the promoters involved in this fiasco should get theyr license suspended (didn't they make the fight, even tough it was known briggs had neurological problems)
Globally? No. However, it's still Boxing, & what Briggs did is still a disservice of the sport to the highest calibre (in-ring).
