ESPN called Floyd Mayweather a coward - He is scared of Manny Pacquiao!

Read my two prior posts before that one, Hanz. My point was the entire reason Floyd hasn't signed is that there's little to no financial incentive in it for him yet. He can fight a Berto or an Alvarez or a Bradley and do well north of a million buys and take 80% of that purse and make $40m. Splitting a purse 50/50 with Pac doesn't necessarily represent a huge pay rise.

Well, he may be saying he's got better things to for the rest of the year...if Mayweather-Pacquiao ends up getting made for next May, then basically this was just a re-run of DLH's 2006, when he took the remainder of the year off after his comeback against Mayorga and ended up fighting Mayweather the next Cinco de Mayo.

Granted, if that is what happens, he'll have gone about it in a much different way...but that'd hardly be a surprise.

I agree 100% REED. I used to talk massive sh*t on Floyd but became a supporter of his after he took care of Mosley, even though Mosley was beyond his best but still....it was a good victory for Floyd.
Now it's hard to really respect Floyd with these antics of his. His response is what's upsetting about this whole thing as you said. He has to realize that once his career is over, there probably isn't much else he can do to make anywhere near the money he's making now. And Floyd isn't exactly a frugal guy. He's waving off so much money, it just makes you wonder if he really is afraid of losing his streak. He's only got a small window of opportunity here and taking these layoffs won't help him physically as he's going onto 34 soon.
He needs to make his move now as in right now! While he still can. And while the boxing world is ready to drop millions to see it. The fight is already sold. Nothing more needs to be done. The fighters should be in training right now as we speak. Heck this fight should've been signed immediately after Floyd/Marquez.

I don't know about that. I don't see 40 million for Floyd and I don't see ppv buys well north of a million. Floyd/Mosley made 1.1 million buys and Mosley is pretty much the most marketable/biggest name outside of Floyd and Pacman right now. Even then and with all the hype surrounding it, Floyd/Shane only made a tiny bit over a million buys and Floyd made a guaranteed 22.5 million. I don't see Alvarez or Bradley doing a better job than Shane here in helping Floyd sell a major ppv event. I'm not sure where you're getting the 40 million figure for Floyd. He'll make about 15 to 20 million if he's lucky against those other no-names. The ppv sales will be lucky to hit a million, especially now that word is out that Floyd is ducking Pacquaio and opting to fight lesser competition.
The boxing world isn't stupid. They catch on quickly when they see blatant handpicking bullsh*t going on. The fans want to see Floyd/Pacman. They aren't asking to see Floyd/Berto or Floyd/Bradley. They won't pay to see those fights and they know damn well Floyd is avoiding a Pacman showdown. You can only fool people for so long, Hut.

I don't think De La Hoya ever broke 1 million buys against Mosley.

He came close in the rematch.

Mayweather made a flat $22.5m vs Mosley PLUS an undisclosed share of the pay per view which grossed $80m (1.4m sales). If that share was 20% or higher he did indeed make $40m on that fight or close. If it was 10% he made about $30m.

I think a joke is a joke but the mods should be much more professional. They can't pick and choose at what times they want things to be serious or funny. Just like when I was ripping up a few members, the mods come down my throat, telling me to knock it off. Yet the mods themselves are pulling jokes and sh*t against the members whenever they please.
Come on Godfather. You can't poke fun at members while at the same time telling other members to refrain from doing the same.

    agREED.

i've been unkind to Floyd (okay and understatement) and even I thought he'd sign the contract.

    "HOWEVER"

We're also making the assumption Arum's telling the truth. if find it odd how HBO has said nada...Golden Boy has said nada. Could mean a couple things...

Could mean Arum and HBO negotiated as stated

Could mean Arum's full of shit done with an eye toward "clearing" Manny's name

Could mean Golden Boy and HBO are highly pissed at Floyd and trying to sway him to fight

    Who knows?

The one thing I know, I'm sick of hearing about it and honestly at this point don't care if they ever fight. far too much unwarranted drama around this fight. It's a damn shame that HBO and Showtime were able to have productive discussions and put together Tyson-Lemmon. The biggest issue in that one was the site and where Tyson could get a license. The business end seemed to come together more easily than Pac-Floyd. And that's an in-house HBO fight.

HBO hasn't talked officially, but both Thomas Hauser and Dan Rafael have written that they've talked to people at HBO who've said there were negotiations.

most shocking thing about reading that is HBO actually refusing haymons request.

Thanks...hadn't seen this. Guess it's safe to say Floyd bitched up.

Let the record show, Muzse gave Floyd the benefit of the doubt twice. Never say I wasn't fair to the guy.

Good to read this from you.

Yeah. "I'm not thinking about boxing right now" is lame & disingenuous.
Especially in view of the fact that Hauser & Rafael have said that there were negotiations.

PBF is just pretending that he is oblivious.
