Leonard had a DOCUMENTED Detached Retina After the Hearns Fight, Neil...Public OUTCRY All But Forced "Boxing's Sweetheart" to RETIRE @ that Time... The Tissue Around the Eye HEALED but Obviously, Leonard Ran the RISK of RE-Tearing it & Flirting w/BLINDNESS...In HINDSIGHT, it Didn't Turn Out to B Much of a Risk, but @ the Time, it WAS... Completely DIFFERENT Scenario from what Floyd is Pulling... REED:shit:
i dont know about if it is different or not. since we have yet to see the outcome to this scenario. leonard fought between the hearns and hagler fights. he played games with hagler as if he intended to fight him years before he actually did. you can blame it on his eye injury but it was a case of opportunity.
PBF, in this day and age, has found that he doesn't need to face and beat the best in order to be considered the best. Up until now, he's achieved that status with the help of HBO, Ring Magazine, Boxing Writers and the media. So the apparent contradiction can in fact be reconciled if you consider that PBF is ranked number 2 P4P (no. depending who you talk to), he's got a cable network and a big promoter behind him not only to feed him easy opponents, but also to make the case that they're in fact good opponents. And he's got a loud-mouthed illiterate family that for some reason manages to get attention in the press. PBF does his fighting with his mouth, through the press, by disparaging other fighters, and by ridiculing the very things about the sport of boxing that make it great. I'm digressing but basically, PBF wants to be the best, he's just willing to be dishonest and under-handed about how he does it. And it's fitting when you see how materialistic and shallow the guy is that his definition of success is so perverted and criminal.
But Leonard Did it w/Hagler, a DOMINANT MIDDLEWEIGHT, Neil...& Leonard had NEVER Fought @ Middleweight...Pacquiao is the Size Hagler was in JUNIOR HIGHSCHOOL...HUGE Difference... Moreso, there was NEVER an Official Contract Negotiation btwn Hagler-Leonard UNTIL they Actually Fought...Floyd's ALREADY Shitted on 2 SEPERATE Negotiations w/Pac...U're Affording Floyd Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay Tooooooooo MUCH Credit by Referring to his Actions as "Games"... If it's a "Game", Floyd's LOSING that Game... REED:hammert:
i really dont care if mayweather jr. fights pacquaio or not. some of you chaps are very emotional. Id like to see the bout occur for betting purposes, if not then oh well. apparently for some people here if the fight doesnt happen it will erase everything that mayweather jr. has done in his career. to say that mayweather jr. shitted on the first negotiation seems odd, considering that pacquiao has now allegedly agreed to the terms originally proposed by mayweather jr.'s camp. hagler was a true middleweight, and a declining middleweight. leonard picked the most opportune time to fight the guy, giving himself the best chance to win and make a pile of money. the fight isnt all of a sudden going to get any smaller, money-wise for mayweather jr. if it occurs next year. its fair to criticize mayweather jr., but i dont see how you can do so while referencing leonard/hagler.
If Pacquiao beats Margarito and retires and then Floyd comes around next year after Pacquiao retires and says "Let's fight!", is Pacquiao now the ducker, Neil?
I think you're perfectly happy with this fight not happening purely for the reason that you know your boy Floyd could be seriously threatened by Pacquiao. And if Floyd loses, we all know it's going to be a GIANT blotch on his career achievements.
i dont see that at all. win or lose mayweather jr has had an excellent career. he is one of the greatest lightweights EVER. he has been fighting professionally for nearly 15 years and over a dozen years at a championship level.
I know all that but smart fans also know he took very calculated risks and many of his victories were mediocre. One of the few times, or VERY few times where somebody great in their prime threw down the gauntlet....and Floyd wants nothing to do with it. That's not what warriors and true champions are made of Neil. This is indeed a black mark on Floyd. First off, we all know he beat DLH and Mosley at the end of their careers, not 10 years ago when they were in their primes. I believe Floyd is scared to death of this fight. I feel he thinks that with a loss, his credibility/reputation and everything that makes him who he is will be flushed as will those mega million paydays. Think about it this way. What bargaining power will Floyd have in future fights if he gets KTFO? Why would people want to see this guy fight again? Floyd is looking at the possibilities after losing and he doesn't like it, hence he wants to make sure he can stay undefeated for as long as possible since it's his streak that's allowing him the freedom to run his mouth at every turn.
I dont respect your opinion. you are biased and dont know much about boxing. if mayweather jr loses he will still get 8 figures paydays in the future if he wants
The games are over Neil. Floyd chickened out. There is no way out of this now.:: The dude got exposed.
Then Perhaps U're NOT a Boxing Fan, Because if U Were, U'd DEFINITELY Want Floyd-Pac to Happen...The Sport NEEDs that Fight... There's 1 Guy, Other than Floyd, w/a Claim to Being THE BEST Fighter of this Particular Era...That Guy is WILLING to Fight, but Floyd's Basically Taking Himself OUT of that Discussion...There's 1 Guy TRYING to Make this Fight Happen & it AIN'T Floyd... The Mere Fact that Floyd CAN'T Even Conjure Up a LEGITIMATE Response to Pac AGREEING to Terms is what SHITS on Floyd Original Demands...N Actuality, Floyd COULDN'T Have Cared Less about "Cleaning Up the Sport", it was just an EXCUSE to Avoid Pac... Whether Hagler was "Declining" Or Not, he was a BIGGER, STRONGER Man than ANYONE Leonard had Ever Faced...By Comparison, Pac is a Buffed Up Jr. Welter These Days...Most Thought Leonard would Get KILLED Even Against a "Declining" Hagler, while MOST Think Floyd would Actually BEAT Pac, Relatively Drama Free... Referencing Leonard-Hagler Makes Floyd Look WORSE than he Already Does...Especially Considering Leonard Actually FOUGHT Hagler... REED:hammert:
REED speaks the truth. Neil like his boy Floyd are scared to death of this fight. The first time Floyd gets challenged in YEARS by a great fighter in his prime and he runs away. Hilarious but not surprising! It's Floyd's excuse to dodge this fight that makes it even funnier. "I'm not even thinking about boxing right now!"
i have to agree - if you are not intensely hoping for this fight to happen then i question how much of a boxing fan you are anymore at this point. especially considering the state of decline boxing is experiencing in this country. this is a super fight beyond nearly all superfights. it is the biggest non heavyweight fight ever. the significance is astronomical. mayweather has still had an amazing career without pacquiao, it doesnt shit on his career but it shits on his entire persona... he has built himself up thru self acclaim as the best fighter ever, unbeatable etc. but he won't fight pac?
How clear its become. It pisses me off because after the Cotto fight, Floyd went on and on about how "if Pacquiao wants to fight me, he has to step to the plate and prove he's clean" and on and on and now that Paquiao is willing to do his stupid, pointless tests, he simply "isn't thinking about boxing anymore." Its crystal clear now. He just doesn't want to fight Pacquiao. Its too risky and he clearly only cares about that "0". I'm having a hard time figuring out what kind of a fighter walks away from a 40 plus million dollar pay day. Anybody know who would do that?:dunno:
It's bad enough he beat the best fighters at the end of their careers, some of them in very boring safety-first fashion. Now that he's got a great fighter in his prime standing in front of Floyd, Floyd doesn't want to fight. There's no way around this for Floyd now.
Exposed by 200 boxing enthusiasts on message boards. Unfortunately for you, there's still a million people looking to buy a Floyd Mayweather fight.
200 Boxing Enthusiasts on Message Boards AND the Boxing Media AND the Boxing Insiders (Trainers, Managers, Matchmakers, etc.)...To Do a MILLION PPV Buys, Floyds Gonna have to HEAVILY Rely on the Likes of ESPN to Hype it... Unfortunately for Floyd, BOXING Guys like Teddy Atlas, Brian Kinney & Dan Rafael Work for that Network...MORESO, Who Else is Floyd Gonna Fight, to Generate a Million Buys???... REED Isn't So Sure that Floyd is @ that Point where his Name ALONE Guarantee's a Million PPV Buys.... REEDopcorn:
Even if he was to make a million buy facing some no hopers, it shouldn't matter at all. A Brad Pitt - Tom Cruise celebrity boxing match would probably gets a million buy, it still wouldn't mean shit.
Floyd fans must really like him, they seem more worried about his health and financial well being than they do about the sport. Kind of strange to see this kind of unconditionnal, one way love from one man to another
if the fight happens then great, if not then boxing wont die. the past three years mayweather jr. has had zero, one and one fight. maybe he just doesnt feel like training for more than one fight per year. we shall see. but all you chaps declaring that the world is about to end just amuse me.
boxing will never die. but its popularity can drop further this fight not happening is bad for boxing. it hurts the sport there are many superfights that could have never happened, and the fighters would have still made lots of money, still had excellent careers and still sold PPVs... that doesn't mean they shouldnt still happen, or that you are somehow an enlightened fan to be nonchalant about them not taking place
SPARE REED your PSEUDO "Cool" Bullshit, Neil...U're RIGHT HERE On Fightbeat DAILY, just like the Rest of Us...So Please STOP Acting as if it's BENEATH U to Actually Give a Fuck if the Fight Happens Or Not:boohoo:... What Floyd is Doing Affects MORE than just Himself...It Affects the BUSINESS of Boxing & ALL Those Involved, Including YOU & Your Wanna B "High Roller" Ass... There's Only Sooooo Many Combative Sports Dollars to Go Around...The Looooooooonger it Takes for Boxing to Make its MARQUEE Fight (Floyd vs. Pac) Happen, the More People GRAVITATE to the Other Side of the Street, aka., MMA Blvd... REED:hammert:
Of Course it Is...& While Floyd Mayweather Certainly DOESN'T Owe the FANS Shit, he DOES Owe the SPORT Something...The Goal is to Leave the Game SOMEWHAT Better than it was when U Entered It, Especially when U're a Bonafied "Name" in your Sport... Unquestionably, Floyd is HURTING the Game... REED:shit:
