For those who still haven't heard, it has been decided that I will no longer be the moderator of the Fightbeat MMA Forum. This is something that has been coming for a while now. When I first came to Fightbeat, the MMA forum was a mess. It was at best an afterthought on the board. There was little to no traffic, and many of the topics posted were nothing more than ridiculous nonsense. Here are some examples... Quality MMA discussion, as you can see. Having done most of my MMA posting at Sherdog, and having grown tired of how that board was run, I decided to see if I could bring some life to Fightbeat's MMA forum. I began to post as much content as I could, from breaking news, to upcoming schedules, to creating monthly Pound for Pound lists. Over time, activity began to increase in the forum, and as interest in the sport of MMA grew, Fightbeat's MMA forum began to grow with it. I was soon made Moderator of the forum, and put into place a set of rules that I thought would be beneficial to the board and help it grow. I made it clear that nonsensical posts like the ones I linked to would not be tolerated. Also, posts that were nothing but lies, made up stories and bullshit would also not be tolerated, such as this one... http://www.fightbeat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4714 I also made it clear that personal attacks would not be tolerated, and neither would posts made for no other reason but to bash the sport of MMA and it's fans. For some time, this set of rules worked well, and when trolling posts were made, they were quickly deleted and the offendors were warned, and if the trolling continued, they were given a ban. With this formula in place, the MMA forum quickly became the best moderated forum on the board, with trolling and personal attacks kept to a minimum and dealt with quickly. Activity in the forum grew and we attracted a lot of knowledgable posters who enjoyed intelligently discussing MMA. The members that posted made this a great MMA forum that didn't have all of the crap you'd find at places like Sherdog. Things were going very well, and were only getting better. But as with all things in life, nothing lasts forever and things change. New ownership took over Fightbeat, and soon the people in charge of the board began to frown upon my style of moderating, in spite of it's proven success. Where I was once given free reign to moderate as I saw fit, I soon found my moderator powers were taken away, and I became a mod in name only. I could no longer ban anyone without asking permission from other moderators. I was told I could no longer delete posts that broke the rules, and instead was to lock the threads until they could be looked at by other mods. To me, that made zero sense. My decisions were often overturned and my suggestions fell on deaf ears. Soon, the element I was keeping out of the MMA forum began to slowly creep back in, the people who came only to bash the sport, bullshit articles being passed off as news, personal attacks, etc. I did my best to keep this out of the forum, but was met with no support from the rest of the moderating crew. I eventually succeeded in getting Hanzy and Lok banned from the forum, but even that came with a monumental struggle. It got to the point where on several occasions I asked to either have full control back of the MMA Forum, or to be replaced as moderator, since at this point it had become impossible to moderate succesfully when I had lost the ability to do so. Finally a few days ago, after deleting a handful of posts that had nothing to do with MMA started by a member who has contributed nothing to the MMA forum other than trolling to bash the sport and it's fans, and who would probably rather we not even have an MMA forum, it was decided that I was moderating improperly and my mod powers were officially stripped from me. I had given an ultimatum that I be able to moderate the way I chose, which has been proven to be succesful, or be dropped as the Moderator of the MMA forum. I'm assuming this was discussed by the Fightbeat Powers that be, and the decision was made to drop me from the moderating crew. I have no problems with the decision, as it is better than just being strung along as a moderator in name only, powerless to actually do anything without permission from others, which has been the case the past several months. I am proud of what I helped build, and want to thank all of the members of the MMA forum who have contributed over the years and helped to make this a great forum to discuss MMA. Hopefully this forum isn't allowed to regress to the point that it was in the past. Again, thanks to the members that made this place great, and hopefully I will see you around to discuss MMA, if not here, somewhere. TFK
I'm curious if any of the actually MMA fans that post in this section had any complaints about TFK. There's a small core of real MMA fans in this section that make it a fun place to post and actually discuss MMA. I can't imagine any of those posters complained about TFK. The dude actually made this a decent MMA Forum. And if none of the consistent MMA posters complained, then why remove TFK? Just curious how that makes sense. I guess if you make Hanz and Steve-Dave whimper a little bit, you're not long for Mod status around here. Oh well. Now we can go back to threads about Fedor shitting on people's chest and the constant, post UFC event posting by Steve about MMA not being a real sport. Yes, I'm sure that's the best direction for this place. Nevertheless, thanks TFK. I appreciate your work in here, but you obviously made the wrong people cry.
TFK did a great job and i will continue to moderate similar to him. Nobody really complained about TFK, but he gave the ultimatum. So a choice needed to be made. Hanzy and Lok will continue to be banned from this section. BTW, TFK was not the only mod to have to get a second in order to ban. That is my rule. No mod can ban without a second pair of eyes looking at the situation to make sure a rash decision is being made. Again, thanks TFK. you did a good job and i hope you continue to post here.
no offence tfk but those topics you posted are hilarious and should absolutely be a part of the mma forum. I at bruce lee versus two hungry polar bears haha
Trplsec has contributed nothing to the MMA forum other than trolling to bash the sport and it's fans, and who would probably rather we not even have an MMA forum? I thought he was a big fan?
I don't really come to this forum other than to read a few posts but this place looked like it was well run to me. That being said TFK, you made a hypocrite of yourself everytime you jumped into a rap thread to piss all over it. You took a hard line in this forum and then indulged in the same thing you were railing against here. I'm sure you can understand why many of us looked unfavorably on that. Hope you don't leave the site over this.
I think what TFK did in the rap forum and what Hanzy and lok did in this forum were on entirely two different levels.
I'm not arguing degrees. To tolerate no trolling or baiting or whatever else you want to call it in a forum you manage, then to indulge in it yourself is hypocritical.
Can you post some forms of Trolling by TFK in any rap thread? Simply disagreeing with someone who likes rap isnt trolling IMO. But if you can show me baiting or trolling by TFK in those threads, i will agree with you and stop debating it.
Deleting post? Now trying to act like TKF wasn't controversial. GODDAMN someone has a mancrush and misses that mullet in the morning air around fightbeat HQ.
Well, I usually keep stuff like this in the Mod Forum or PMs. However, I think this subforum will continue to do just fine. Caligula, I don't want smacktalk in here, so if you are going to argue with either of these guys, do it in TAAA. Same goes for them. Thank you.
Im the one that removed him. But your ass doesnt post in this forum, and all of a sudden does. You arent to posting stupid ass youtube videos for no reason whatsoever.
Not Only That, but TFK Would Also PERPETUATE the "MMA vs. Boxing" Myth on the GENERAL FORUM...TFK's Postings on Other Forums was a CLEAR CONTRADICTION to How he Expected People to Behave in the MMA Forum... The MMA Forum Is Cool IN SPITE of TFK's HYPOCRISY... REED:dancingBaby:
Cry a little harder and maybe you can't get the MMA Forum shut down all together. :crying1::crying1::crying1::crying1:
So nobody who actually posts in here complained about TFK? I personally had no problem with him, then again I'm not in here to start trouble so I usually don't have issues with mods.
The thing is, letting TFK run this forum was my idea. I gave him the forum however many years ago it was now. So, all the good things he points out that he is done in this thread, all come back to me. You're welcome. You, on the other hand, started the chain of events that led to his demise. I built this place up and you tore it down, Trplsec. I hope you're happy.
The problem is that what lead to TFK leaving was just a joke IMO. It was in no way intended to be like the last time TRP, Andrew and Myself went at it in here. It was actually just a playful jest. Very small. But TFK took it too far.
I'm not going to try and rally public opinion one way or the other. Usually we keep the mod disagreements out of the forums, and that's not happening right now. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail because nobody comes out of a pissing contest smelling good.
It's essentially a stilted thread because it doesn't contain all the facts. Regardless, the MMA Forum is for MMA News and MMA Discussion, not Moderator Politics. I'm closing this thread.
