Your point was that the shiny records are in some way meaningful. My point was just that they aren't. At all. McNeely is the worst of the bunch. Sanders or Gomez probably the best. Vitali's competition has been piss poor.
Ok, Throw in Arreola. How we doing? Now throw in Kevin Johnson? And then Sosnowski? Has Haye even headlined in the States yet? I still say beating the shit out of Sam Peter over 8 rounds, never losing a minute of the fight, after 4 years out, trumps Haye's achievements at Heavyweight.
Of course Vitali has trumped Haye's achievements at heavyweight, if you wanna start aggregating them. Haye has had 3 fights!:: Haye's last 3 fights have been better than Vitali's last 3 though. And they're not ten million miles off equalling ANY 3 Vitali title wins in 15 odd attempts. That's just how poor Vitali's run has been. Really friggin' bad! *edit: for the record I think Vitali is better than Haye and would beat him. I just think he should put some effort into getting somebody decent in the ring or retire.
Arreola, Johnson and Sosnowski are all post-return opponents. Of course, Vitali's resume could probably look a little better with a name like Haye's on it.
That says it all. 2 Undefeated American Contenders, whom Haye MADE NO EFFORT TO FIGHT, Klitschko beat them both handily, I think he dropped 1 round out of 22 fought.
Come on, mate, who the FUCK was Kevin Johnson? :: Most people had literally never heard of the guy. He'd never fought anyone anybody had ever heard of. He's plucked from utter obscurity. Arreola was a shameless HBO attempt at trying to build a marketable Mexican star. Built with a win over an old Jamel McCline & SFA else. Let's be fair here. Not that Im especially criticising Vitali for taking either fight in isolation in the circumstances. But don't pretend these guys are better than proven guys like Ruiz & Valuev. Because they aren't. They're shit. And there's really only so many times in a friggin' row Vitali can be 'stuck for opponents' like this before one way or another he's due some rightful criticism. Briggs, Sobonoski, Johnson & Arreola is a really shameful run of opponents. Step it up, big man!
If Johnson and Arreola were so poor and easy to beat, then why didn't Haye make a name for himself in the USA by blowing them away?
Make a name for himself by beating Kevin Johnson? :: Kevin 'Who' Johnson? Come on to fuck, man. And when Vitali was fighting Arreola Haye had a title shot against Valuev. Why would Arreola or Haye give up title shots to fight each other? Again: Vitali is better than Haye. Vitali would beat Haye. But Vitali has to step it the fuck up or get off the pot.
NONSENSE. He's only on the pot because he was good enough to come back off a 4 year lay off and beat 28-1 Sam Peter to death. Look at who Vitali had to fight to get his WBC title credentials.........Lewis, Kirk Johnson, Sanders, Danny Williams, Sam Peter, Gomez...Haye has never even fought remotely close to that level of oppositon. Fuck it.....Vitali's two round demolition of Herbie Hide ranks higher than ANYTHING Haye manages against Audley Harrison.
this is silly - is anyone besides mikE (hehe sorry buddy) arguing that this isn't a weak crop of heavyweight contenders? vitali is fighting what is available, sadly shannon briggs is one of the few people available right now, vitali has to stay active. who else is he supposed to fight? ruiz/kevin johnson/valuev/arreola/tony thompson/sosnowski/ray austin they're all seven different shades of shit right now as far as i am concerned. there isn't much to get excited about with the heavweights unless Haye fights a Klitschko
Valuev isn't scared, cut the bullshit, he deserves more than Sosnosky did and it's to Valuev credit that he agreed to the fight for 1,5 million ( only ,5 million more than Sosnosky did). Vitaly would much rather face old guys or bums than to face him. It's funny that everyone seems to have a problem with the Klitshko contracts yet everyone blame the others for ducking them

not sure what was particularly funny... except for the Lion in the longrass comment hehe. good fight, heavyweight slugfest. certainly further proves that cappucino was a pretty poor referee. i miss lennox. i always liked how he never really aknowledged his opponents after the fight with anything more than a slight head nod and maybe a "good fight" comment. so many fighters these days want to hug and fall over themselves praising each other.
Haha, this is so true. Lewis was awesome, he had that natural arrogance which he could always back up. He wasn't the best smacktalker by any means but he could scare the shit out of opponents by not saying anything. Still, the Hasbeen Rahman moment was quality.
Lewis was jaded after 4 rounds. Briggs was stood in front of him, pawing at Lewis forearms, and Lewis was cuffing him around the ears, blowing like a blue whale which had come to the surface for the first time in days. In the meantime, Glenn McCrory, who has derided Vitali for better performances against better fighters, sits there telling us all that "that was the greatest heavyweight round ever" and "what a fight":doh: I think it was entertaining fare, I listened to it on the radio as I had no tele back in the day.
a bit of hyperbole - but it was a great heavyweight slugfest of a round. as a lennox fan (which both those commentators were too despite what they say) it was one of the more intense rounds i have watched for heavyweights - considering i was terrified lennox might drop dead at any moment. if that stands out as funny to you - definitely sample some Jim Lampley commentary. or even steve albert on the showtime broadcasts. i like it. better than mccrory ending an exciting round by saying - "well it was pretty sloppy, and lennox is in bad shape and briggs is actually not a quality heavyweight"
Briggs is a hitter, and a huge guy as well, but his stamina and chin when hit by punchers are his weak areas. He is known in the boxing jargon as a "Winger" and is very strong and a hard puncher, so he has a hitter's shot here, particularly so much as Vitali likes to mix.
Ugh. What an awful argument, so typical of you as well You have this absurd hang up when it comes to numbers... I've never seen you once look at WHAT THE NUMBERS REPRESENT It is always just "Look... Buck Smith was 179-13 when he fought Chavez... CLEARLY he was awesome" how did he GET that record? WHO was he fighting? who's a more accomplished fighter... 28-1 Sam Peter or 48-18-1 Mike Weaver? who's better? a 28-1 Mac Foster or a 17-4-2 Jimmy Young? you cant just look at a record and say "yup, thats that... great opposition" "Hey some guy in a sub-single A baseball league hit 76 home runs with a .398 batting avg... clearly he's better than A-Rod"
Big Mac and Young were about even, both very good. Foster was iced by Quarry, but Young never would fight Jerry as Jerry knocked him out in sparring for the Ali return. Foster, like Young, was a very good fighter in an era of great heavyweight champions.
Mac Foster was a carefully managed "next big thing" who was exposed by Quarry and subsequently lost to ever halfway decent heavyweight he faced Jimmy Young BEAT George Foreman and competed at the highest level with Norton and Ali... he was very clearly a more accomplished fighter than Mac Foster
Yet Jimmy Young would have less of a chance vs Vitali than Mac Foster. Foster would at least have some sort of a punchers chance. Young would get fustigated.
I'm not the one saying it is better or worse than Lennox's, only that claiming it is the worst as was put forth earlier in this thread by Hut is bullshit.
