at 130, its a hell of a fight, and I think its a pick -em at 135, I think Chavez has too much of an edge in quickness, he gets off first and lands his right hand plenty to win by decision in a terrific fight at 140, I think you would have to pick Chavez unless you're nuts I dont know that JCC stops Alexis at any of these weights, but hed have the best chance at 140 in my opinion
I think most guys would agree with me that Bert Sugar is a jackass who writes fairytales I dont know what the hell Bert Sugar has to do with actually thinking out how fighters, as they actually were (not storybook form) , would do in various battles against other fighters that unfortunately they can never fight due to the limits of physics other than the fact that some of the fighters involved are no longer fighting (like some of the ones Bert Sugar apparantley likes for whatever reason) I dont see how any of it has anything to do with a cigar chomping moron who loves stupid anecdotal summaries of fighters' entire careers
Incidentally, I recently purchased a great DVD, "The Latin Legends," which reviewed, among others, these two. Very worthwhile viewing. I said to a friend of mine, "You know, I don't think he was truly the best of these guys, but Arguello, to me, is the most beautiful to watch." Perfect pin-point sharp-shooting, he never misses an opening --- & what power. He runs Chavez a merry chase at any weight, & plainly beats him at Jr. Light, IMO.
I really like Arguello here. I'm not sure Chavez overcomes that range and accuracy at any weight. I can't think of a Chavez opponent that was remotely similar to Arguello before Randall & DLH. I can think of a fair few 'poor man's Chavez'', stylistically, that Arguello dispatched impressively. Shaky reasoning perhaps, but i can't help visualizing this as a bad night for JCC.
Duran's the best of all the latin fighters, Chavez comes in at 2 for me but I agree, Arguello was just poetry in motion... the most beautiful puncher ever...

time/space ... physics Benny Leonard cant fight Ike Williams and neither of them can fight Pernell Whitaker because we cant bend time and space to make them appear in the same ring together at the same place at the same time as they were in the primes of their lives it goes far beyond just biology
btw i know people be hatin' on TLC, and he is somewhat of an agitator...but he has a point to a degree. There's an elitist mentality on this forum..similar to Bert Sugar's in which Ray Robinson is the undisputed P4P # from now until the end of time and whoa to anyone who dares to question it...and that the fighters that are ranked in the top 15 have to be for the most part relatively obscure names from the black and white eras (Wilde, Ross, benny Leonard, Pep, Greb, Walker etc). People that want to be given respect for knowing boxing...promote these ideas and act as though anyone who woudl rank a WELL KNOWN 90s or 00s fighter high is an idiot. It can be sickening.

Actually, I think your point DOES have a little validity, but to describe Jimmy Wilde as a 'relatively obscure' name does your argument little service. The reason why I dont post as much in this forum as I do other forums is that, save the usual suspects (Ali, Robinson et al), my knowledge (ahem) of boxing goes back not much further than the mid 1970's, simply because I wasn't alive before that and there isn't much footage available of some of the guys most people throw out there in this forum. BUT even I know a fair bit about Wilde, because he is the consensus 'best ever' fighter to come out of the UK and there is tons of stuff available to research and read on him if you can be arsed. To describe him as 'relatively obscure' is bollocks. MTF
YOU know about Wilde..but the average mainstream fan doesn't. Wannabe boxing experts would rather hype guys the mainstream doesn't know about in order to appear more knowledgable. It's teh same in every genre: sports, Music or whatever.
This isn't a 'mainstream' sports forum though. It's a boxing forum for supposedly 'hardcore' boxing fans. I could care less personally what people in pubs tell me would happen if X fought Y (and believe me, that happens to me a fair bit every time I go out for a pint) because these people know next to knothing about boxing other than that Muhammed Ali was a bit warm. That isn't elitism, it is a fact. People like Wilde may be obscure to 'mainstream' fans, but aside from Mayweather, Pacquiao, Tyson, Oscar (and he is debatable on this side of the pond) etc, EVERY fighter is considered more or less obscure. Here, on a boxing forum in a MM subforum, guys like Wilde are not (and should not) be considered obscure. MTF

I don't see how you can call the likes of Leonard, Greb, Ross & Walker semi-obscure. Did I miss something, because last I checked, all of these men ranked among the greatest fighters & champions of all-time.
but, Ramonza, they are not well known to the type of people who remember Sugar Ray Leonard as "that guy from the 7UP commercials" so therefore we shouldnt talk about them so as to placate ignorant morons on a boxing site who cant keep up:giggle:
