IMO this is whats wrong with boxing. the fans dont admit when things are fucked up. Dont spend to much time criticizing the accuser, than coming up with solutions. Dana clearly stated the sport can be saved in his opinion. But the way things are going, its just less and less apealing. When you only have two stars in USA boxing, thats scary.
oh my goodness you are 100% correct here. the reason UFC has surpassed boxing in the USA is because it is run better, with better marketing, better cards, cheaper labor, and more television exposure. i don't think anyone would argue against that. the problem is that boxing, boxers and promoters are doing just fine... why should they change anything? they are making plenty of money as it is.. and just because the sport is losing popularity in the US doesnt mean it isn't thriving on a world scale... which is still is.
How can it be sourced? The UFC doesnt release its numbers. If you dont think brock is making millions per fight fighting in the UFC, you are crazy. did you see the gym the guy put together for himself? you dont get to do that for 500k a fight.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission releases salary information. Like i have said in previous posts - i know these guys make more with PPV revenue and sponsors and the like... but i trust this sourced information as CLOSER to the truth than your "rumors." Which would be nice if they had any backing whatsoever. Maybe your claims are substantiated - that's fine. I have yet to see it http://www.fightline.com/fl/news/2010/0530/528756/ufc-114-jackson-vs-evans/ http://www.fightline.com/fl/news/2010/0706/529797/ufc-116-lesnar-vs-carwin/
They also work a ton more. Also, Pacquiao and Mayweather fight once a year and make more than A-Rod. Who works for 10 months out of the year, and unlike most sports jobs, actually probably puts about as much hours as a normal job considering you have games almost daily(sometimes 2) + practice and travel. :shit:
I already see wrong information in those numbers. Brock won a bonus. How does the Neveda state have information about a private contract between fighters and the owners?
:boring: You can have the opinion that gravity doesn't work.... but you would still be wrong. I could tell you that Chad Dawson made $10 million his last fight... but i have nothing to back that up, just like you don't seem to.
This is tito signing his contract. Listen to how he describes the money he gets. if the numbers are so easily released, why all the hush hush? Trust me. Whatever it is you read, they get paid much more.
Your numbers say that Brock didnt win a bonus. Brock won sub of the night Bonus. I just proved that those numbers are faulty. What else is there to prove? Again, how does the state of nevada know the details of a private contract between a fighter and a private company?
And that's fair, Godfather, I believe you - I do believe they make more money than what gets released. I have an inkling to believe its closer to the numbers that are sourced than the fantasy numbers you "rumor."
How do you know Brock won a sub of the night bonus? I thought these things weren't released? you haven't proven anything. we have your typed word that there were "rumors" that Brock made a certain amount of money. And a youtube clip where Tito doesn't disclose what he is going to make for the Matt Hammel fight
Bonuses are released. Dana releases them after each event. Bonuses arent in the contract. They are performance bonuses. KO of the night. Fight of the night, Sub of the night, etc.
Ok lets go by your numbers. which i dont believe are accurate, but ok. By your numbers the bottom level seem to make about the same. in fact, the UFC's lowest fights, made more than Boxing. Marquez ($1 million) vs. Diaz ($540,000) Daniel Jacobs ($200,000) vs. Dmitry Pirog ($50,000) Robert Guerrero ($75,000) vs. Joel Casamayor ($50,000) Linares ($30,000) vs. Juarez ($45,000) Sakio Bika ($18,000) vs. Jean Paul Mendy ($12,000). Compare that with UFC 115, which sold 620,000 PPVs: Rich Franklin $140,000 ($70,000 win bonus) def. Chuck Liddell ($500,000) Mirko Filipovic $150,000 ($75,000 win bonus) def. Pat Barry ($11,000) Martin Kampman $50,000 ($25,000 win bonus) def. Paulo Thiago ($18,000) Ben Rothwell $100,000 ($50,000 win bonus) def. Gilbert Yvel ($30,000) Carlos Condit $52,000 ($26,000 win bonus) def. Rory MacDonald ($8,000)
And there is some good comparison - problem with the discrepencies is a lot of those UFC guys are heavyweights and light heavyweights and middleweights (170 right?) Sakio Bika is pure junk and was paid as such, and the rest of those boxers are featherweights besides Jacobs, who pulled in more than any middleweights on the UFC card, and more than anyone besides Liddell
I don't know if it's true but that is what the UFC reported to the commission.....the 400K was his base pay....all that other stuff you are talking about $2 for each PPV..i don't know about...sponsors and all that other stuff... http://mmajunkie.com/news/19820/ufc-116-fighters-salaries-brock-lesnar-leads-xxx-payroll.mma Reported payout The following is the reported payout to the fighters as reported to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. It does not include sponsor money or "locker room" bonuses often given by the UFC and also do not include the UFC's traditional "fight night" bonuses.[18] Brock Lesnar $400,000 (no win bonus) def. Shane Carwin ($40,000) Chris Leben $86,000 ($43,000 win bonus) def. Yoshihiro Akiyama ($45,000) Chris Lytle $52,000 ($26,000 win bonus) def. Matt Brown ($10,000) Stephan Bonnar $50,000 ($25,000 win bonus) def. Krzysztof Soszynski ($10,000) George Sotiropoulos $24,000 ($12,000 win bonus) def. Kurt Pellegrino ($25,000) Brendan Schaub $20,000 ($10,000 win bonus) def. Chris Tuchscherer ($12,000) Ricardo Romero $16,000 ($8,000 win bonus) def. Seth Petruzelli ($10,000) Kendall Grove $50,000 ($25,000 win bonus) def. Goran Reljic ($5,000) Gerald Harris $20,000 ($10,000 win bonus) def. Dave Branch($6,000) Daniel Roberts $12,000 ($6,000 win bonus) def. Forrest Petz ($6,000) Jon Madsen $16,000 ($8,000 win bonus) def. Carlos Vemola ($8,000)
And my point is if the numbers are so easily released why all the hush hush on what the fighters are being paid. Like my video of Ortiz.
I think Dana White was pretty much spot on with his comments on the video... altho i think he is full of shit not knowing who David Haye is.
Thats my point. They act like its an attack on the sport, but its more of an attack on how the sport is being handled. But nobody wants to discuss that. They just want to argue
Why? When was the last time David Haye was mentioned on a telecast? And someone would have to be watching that telecast. Its quite possible to not know David Haye. he said the name sounds familiar, but couldnt put his finger on it.
what's the point? boxing isn't going to change. they are doing fine as it is and no promoter is going to make any sacrifices just to try and promote the sport, or help its marketing, or increase its free tv.
besides it being bob arum?? that's a tough one. but arum doesn't proclaim to be an MMA fan, i think he proclaims to be the exact opposite. dana white says he is a boxing fan, but he doesn't know who one of the heavyweight champions is? or titleholder, whatever. plus jake shields isn't analagous to David Haye. i believe that Arum knows who Emelienenko is. And Frank Mir. And Shane Carwin.
