So you think the average boxing fan knows these names? I think even if the average boxing did see those fights, im sure they dont remember. Not every boxing fans spends their life discussing boxing like people here do. You overate the boxing knowledge of the casual fan
You brought it up. Haye's been mentioned by the HBO crew...he's also been on graphics that they've shown of the heavyweight division, as HBO often does when discussing weight divisions. -MK Im asking when this was
Look, for fucks sake, if the average boxing fan choses to spend their time on Maxboxing, then that's their fucking problem. It doesn't mean the sport is in trouble, anymore than gambling in vegas is in trouble because the average guy only loses 10,000 when 20 years ago he lost a bit more.
I know who they are. but hitman says that any fan worth a damn should know. I dont think the casual fan knows who these people are
Yeah can is the key word. When was the telecast again? Do you even know or did you make it up? You have a history of that in this thread.
Look i didnt want to argue with any of you. If i upset some of you, i apologize. It wasnt my intention. I wanted a nice discussion and saw this thread as a perfect opening. I dont think because i hadnt seen a haye fight that doesnt make me a boxing fan. Im a movie buff and havent seen Transformers. But its cool. Think what you want. I will drop it.
I don't have to, because I've watched enough boxing to know they've shown them. And what have I made up in this thread?
COnsider further that in the 1990's Pat Putnam was writing articles in Sports Illustrated, bemoaning the advent of Evander Holyfield and comparing it to Floyd Patterson replacing Rocky Marciano as the HW Champ. Of course, we all know that, in time, the fight-writers found time to rank both Tyson and Holyfield as great champions, even in light of Mikes ear issues and Evans drug problems. So boxing was dead, but they found a way to resurrect it, retrospectively, via the pen. :shit: Putnam, to the best of my recollection, actually went so far as to say that Holyfield replacing Tyson was like a battery of cannon being replaced by mortars, and that "making the mortars mobile"*, made things even worse. ________________ * A reference to Holyfields mobile, sniping approach vs Larry Holmes.
I think we all know these threads/debates get heated, one way or another, for better or worse. Everyone that gets involved in them knows what they are getting into. Doesn't go any deeper than that. I still find most of the debates to be useful, including the stuff in this thread.
I think most boxing fans have been quite open in discussing the decline in boxing and the reasons for it...but many of them aren't new in July 2010 or suddenly revealed to boxing fans because Dana White mentioned them. But signed protective cups sounds about as desperate for acceptance as "I've watched UFC 1-whatever", and if Godfather was anywhere near as active in the GD as he is in the MMA forum he wouldn't have to prove his credentials. But, as he says,
I think it makes this board look bad, so thats why i want to stop. I always enjoyed reading yours and mitchell's posts, however never really spoken one on one with you. but now i have a slight dislike for both of you. I didnt want that to happen. It wasnt my intention. So for the better of this forum, i will try to chill.
So, you think the boxing board looks bad and you have a dislike for some of the people who post on it? Good thing you won't be back until the next "Dana White says" thread...except maybe to say Chavez Jr. is a beast.
Fair enough. I don't think it makes the board look bad - it's just heated debate. I wouldn't take it so seriously, I don't feel any different about you than I did before any of this started.
Some of those are questions. And the other are a result of you posting parts of quotes and not the whole quote. Those arent insults. Not even close.
LOL, yes, you're the only one who knows what a rhetorical question is. Unlike you, I was actually curious in the answer to my question. Feel free to answer that one whenever.
oooooh you sly dog, you. gone and found an insult loophole! spare me Godfather, you say something like "What are you 12??" and then accuse me of being childish - that is an insult, no matter how you try and spin it.
U RARELY Comment on the General Forum UNLESS U're Complaining about Something, Dude...& Almost Always, those Complaints R Bookended by YOUR Opinions of What MMA is Doing RIGHT, by Comparison...U CREATE "Boxing vs. MMA" Discussion... What U're Doing is Pretty OBVIOUS, Dude... The Sad Part is Guys like U & TFK DIScourage it in the MMA Forum...Nonetheless, Here U R Doing the SAMEdamnedTHING in the General Forum... David Haye is a Well Spoken, ENTERTAINING Fighter...If Boxing REALLY MATTERS To U, the Name "David Haye" is IN your Concious AND U've Seen him Fight @ Least 1nce or Twice...Hell, the Only LIVE Fight of Haye's that REED has Seen is the Maccarinelli Fight, which was on Showtime... But That ONE Fight Enticed REED Enough to Go Thru Haye's Youtube Archives...Already, Haye is a MARKETABLE Entity in the Boxing World...MOST Fans ALREADY have Opinions of him, 1 Way or the Other...The Fact that YOU DIDN'T have an Opinion of him Speaks VOLUMES about your LACK of Boxing Fandom.... So when U're COMPLAINING about Aspects of a Sport, while Referring to Yourself as a "Fan" of that Sport, it Seems ODD that a Guy like Haye ESCAPES U.... REED:mj:
The way this thread has turned into a boxing vs MMA debate, it probably belongs in the TAA section. I was kind of hoping it turned more into a debate about identifying boxing's problems and possible solutions. While the UFC's business model is fantastic, there is no way it could be applied to the current boxing landscape. But there are certainly other potential improvements. Oh well, it seems everyone is too threatened.
I have to agree with the majority on here. If you didn't want to see the Haye-Mac unification bout, then your boxing interest is probably at an all time low. Haye is an exciting fighter. Big power, questionable chin, and typically reckless. That's a combination that makes a fun fighter. And he has a big mouth on top of it. However, the fact that he isn't fighting either Klit yet is just another slight on boxing's overall standing.
