I responded to this once - and I know it's a defeatist attitude, but I don't see boxing making any significant changes or improvements to increase its popularity in the USA at all so I don't see the point to really opening an in-depth discussion about it.

What would help? Godfather mentioned some of them - college scholarships and college programs wouldn't hurt, a good reality show.

i think that knockout and fight of the night bonuses are somethign that should be brought into boxing big time. i think there should be more quality fights on free tv, and old PPV's should be replayed on free tv more as well.

these are all pipe dreams and none of them will happen tho

It's a bit of bad luck and there isn't anything we can do about it, but I also think that the heavyweight division suffers since the two best heavyweights are brothers and will never fight each other. So the biggest heavyweight fight in the sport can never be made.

Klit-Haye and Floyd-Pac are the two biggest fights in the sport by far and neither is happening. Farcical.

Let's talk in 10 years. I guarantee, GUARANTEE, the UFC model doesn't hold up over time.

And Godfather isn't a troll. He just doesn't follow boxing and he hasn't for a long time.

Maybe is misspoke. I mean in comparison to hardcore boxing fans who post on a boxing message board.

I'm sure you follow the big events.

I can have a debate with any of you about any division in boxing right now and be up to date on everything. Not just be up to date but hold my own

You had never seen David Haye fight until today. Let's not go there.

What does seeing David Haye fight have to do with discussing boxing? I know who he has fought and i know who he has beaten.

Watching the fights is the most important part. Hardcore boxing fans that spend a lot of times posting on boxing message boards go out of their way to watch everything out there. Like you do with cage fighting.

You're a boxing fan in a room of people who don't follow, but here you're very, very casual.

Yeah, because it's not like David Haye was the number one cruiserweight before moving up, so there'd be no point in having seen any of his fights at that weight, against Mormeck or Maccarinelli or anybody else.

How exactly are you going to go about doing that, checking records on boxrec and parroting other people's opinions?

And if you "can", why haven't you?

    You're confused.

It has nothing to do with how often you post. It has everything to do with the fact that you don't really watch that much boxing.

And yes, if you haven't seen David Haye fight, it means you aren't really that into boxing. I know you used to be. You aren't anymore and you haven't been for a while.

David Haye is actually the perfect barometer. Not on TV in the states but easy to find if you care to.

And not on TV is no excuse. Not with me. I live in Canada, you know the hell I went through for many years trying to follow boxing.

Top guys are going to want more control over their careers and more money per fight. Eventually, a famous fighter in the USA is going to tell Dana to fuck off and do a PPV boxing style.

It's not going to happen all at once. It will happen over time.

I dont agree about Haye being a Berometer. I have now seen 5 of his fights since this day has begun. I am under the impression that he isnt that Good. He has a Fragile Chin, his stamina is junk and he gets hit too often by low level fighters.

Only after you were called on it. If you were a real boxing fan, on the level of most of us here, you would have seen him long before today.

Whether or not you or anyone else thinks he's good is irrelevant. Because he's a very relevant fighter, good or bad.

I saw it because we were specifically talking about it. Not because i was called on it. I decided to watch a fight so it can be debated here.

What makes him relevant? He has avoided the two champs in the division. Why is he relevant. He is just a title holder, he isnt the champ. And he isnt anything special.

This is the third or fourth time in a row that you haven't replied to a full post of mine in this thread. You're cherry picking.

    I'm done.

Legitimate point. I fear the same thing. And honestly, Fedor might be an example of how this begins.

Right now the UFC is the greatest showcase in the world for MMA talent. If you are a fighter, you want to be in the UFC regardless of the pay scale simply because of the exposure. Eventually you have to think a fighter comes along that is bigger than the sport and can carry a promotion without a UFC type organization behind them.

I don't see it within 10 years, but maybe.

Former cruiserweight champion (no excuse for any boxing fan to have not seen him at that point) and beyond the Klitschko's, he's the most talked about heavyweight in the world. He's very relevant.

It amazes me that you continue to have any connection with this forum when all you do is bash a thread that is generating more conversation than anything else presently going.

Yeah, obviously I don't know when it will happen... but eventually, if UFC remains popular, a fighter is going to come along and really transcend the company.

And you have to keep in mind that Fedor isn't very well known in the states because he's never fought in the UFC. He's moderately known... but in more a niche way, because UFC is A LOT more popular than MMA.

But eventually someone will come up through the UFC ranks, become huge, and tell the company to fuck off. And then it will happen again. And again.

Once the first pin drops, it will start gaining momentum. Sometimes it only takes one person.

Because I think MMA is for fags? This is a boxing forum, my man.

It's generating discussion because Godfather isn't very good at saying "My bad, you guys are right."
