Inspired by Irish. Does Jones successfully tread the razor blade & finish Conn's dinner? His feinting & speed would definitely pose a world of problems for a somewhat cerebral & 'pensive' (as Irish put it) counter puncher like Louis. I can definitely see Louis being made to look ponderous. On the other hand, 1 hard shot and I don't give a fuck what anyone says, Roy is taking a nap. That's what i see happening at some point.... Louis KO 9.
That said, if they fought 5 times I would expect Roy to pull the trick & last 12/15 once. And in a fight where Joe caught him late Roy would be well ahead on the cards. He has a big stylistic advantage in every aspect other than the golden ratio between Louis' fists and Roy's jaw. 5 fights: Louis KO 9 Louis KO 8 Jones UD 15 Louis KO 12 Louis KO 2
While Louis is the favorite here, Jones has a shot and it is possible he could hurt Louis too. Louis' chin was solid but he could be hit and dropped and Jones' speed would be something he never saw (waiting for somebody to prove that Tommy Farr was at least as fast)
Pretty much. If Louis is having an off night i could see Roy pulling out a decision. Anything other than that though and it's the Brown Bomber by KO.
Roy does have a chance. Lets be honest, Roy's better than Billy Con. However, I think Louis probably does catch him eventually.
P4P..Roy wins no question. But at Heavyweight Roy wasn't as mobile or as fast. As such he'd always get walked down eventually.
Jones would look brilliant at times, as he usually did but he's going to get hit extremely crisply at some point and, Joe Louis didn't let guys hang around too long
Im not even sure he'd get walked down....I don't think it's pressure that gets him, that isn't really Louis' game (which is why he'd struggle so much for the majority of the fight, IMO). I think he just gets over confident for a second at some point and Louis measures him with something. Louis is gonna be reading his patterns and setting things up & it'd only take a lapse. I picture the KO ostensibly coming out of the blue. Agree that Roy wasn't as mobile at the heavier weight, that's definitely to his detriment here.
