A familiar old theme. One member lists the name of a fighter, & the next answers as to whether they're historically over-rated, under-estimated, or rnaked about right. They then leave their own nominee for the next respondent.

Here's our first cab off the rank...

    Roberto Duran

A little under, for mine. Ranks as the best Jr. Middle ever in my book, & that includes Hearns. Hagler ducked him.

    Paulie Ayala?

Overrated. Got the benefit of the doubt too often and was bashed once he moved beyond his comfort zone. Ring FOTY my balls.

Underrated. His 168 reign is no worse than Hopkins at 160.

You know what? Believe it or not, I'm going to say a little under-rated. That's not easy, mind. Hamed had some positively woeful short-comings, but the way I hear him spoken of nowadays, you'd have a hard time believing he could tie his shoelaces.

Jack Dempsey (Non-Pareil)? --- Put that on the backburner, I was beaten to the post.

    Evander Holyfield = About rated.

I'd say under, since Non-Pareil Jack Dempsey hardly ever gets mentioned any more.

Overrated. Good welterweight without a stellar win over a stellar opponent in any division.

About right. A bit overrated before and bit under now so they kind of balance.

Deserved to be regarded as part of an exciting trio of decent Welterweights and deserves also to be regarded as a slightly flawed fighter who lacked the quality to break on through to the other side of good.

    Tony Ayala.

I say underrated. He was giant for his division and could punch like hell. I think in general things like that are all too often overlooked as strengths that very often are every bit as important as skill and speed.

Underrated, as indicated by the fact every mythical match-up I've put him in hasn't gotten a single reply.

I think he had an interesting and effective style. He knew how to keep busy, could punch, and was good at using his eyes.

About right. Getting laid out by an exhausted James Toney with one punch is a major negative, balanced out by his otherwise outstanding performances, specifically the stoppage of Kalambay and beating of Starling.

    Henry Cooper.
