Dawson vs. Pascal...

175 is a pretty entertaining divsion, now that we have eliminated all the old farts except for Glen Clemens. Might not be the greatest skillwise, but they sure make for good fights. Cleverly/Murat will put two undefeated European prospects against each other for the interim WBO title, that Jürgen Brähmer will lose one way or the other in the near future. Throw in Shumenov and you have a pretty exciting top 5-8.

 

I truly was not impressed by either man tonight.

This division is in need of a Lion to clean it out and establish his own dominance in the manner of such Gladiators as Harold Johnson, Eddie Mustafa, and Matthew Saad'

Yep, i think the Cleverly-Murat winner throws themselves right into the frame....i like Cleverly a lot, hopefully he can back up the promise he has shown so far when those two meet next month.

 

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but is it just me or was the crowd chanting "DAW-SON DAW-SON DAW-SON" and then Lampley's dumb ass said "the crowd is wanting another flurry from Pascal"

Maybe he would have knocked out Pascal eventually but I doubt it. He just doesn't have it in him.

I could picture Dawson having Pascal in a Chavez/Taylor like situation and backing off in the last 5 seconds to take a breath and admire his work.

Hmm...i don't remember that, but i'd be surprised if they were chanting Dawson's name in Pascal's home town, especially since their fighter was doing so well and for the most part, pushing the action.

 

Cleverly is one heckuva fighter.

Been riding his bandwagon very early, but there are quesstion marks over his chin and toughness. Murat is limited, but he´s been through some firefights with former world champions (Campillo and Sanavia) and kept coming, while Cleverly´s opposition has mostly been African bums or washed up old local fighters. Despite me rating Cleverly higher than Murat, the odds on Murat by KO are too good to pass up. If Cleverly soundly beats Murat he establishes himself as a legit threat at 175.

 

Hard to believe at one point in time Edison Miranda was favored to beat Jean Pascal.

 

I pick Cleverly to tear that guy up.

Chad is still my boy, and I think he caught a REALLY shitty break with the cut, as he was certainly on the verge of stopping Crapscal, but in the end he only has himself to blame. He slept walk through most the goddamn fight like he had in the bag, acting as if they were fighting in fuckin Connecticut or something! Ironically enough, its pretty funny who his trainer is, cause Eddie Mustafa was the very similar. A talented fighter who just didnt let his hands go enough. Only differance, Eddie woulda never lost to anyone as mediocre as Crapscal.

WTF has happened to killer instinct in the sport man? All these clowns, Chad, Bradley, Alexander, Con, Ward, Dirrell, none of them really fight with any killer instinct whatsoever.

Contrast that with a guy like Whitaker, who was a brilliant boxer, yet still had a real mean streak in the ring and when he had a guy going would really open up.

These fighters nowadays are really pussies, and dont even really attempt to put opponents away. Manny is correct, theres toooooo many goddamn decisions nowadays, and it is killing the sport. Guys need to start pushing harder toward getting stoppage wins.

 

Dawson sucks. What a fraud. Truly sad when the only great fighters in a sport are two guys with one foot out the door.

 

If Froch wants credit for beating Dawson, then he's got to beat Dawson himself. If Pascal beat Dawson,.. it doesn't mean Dawson couldn't box Froch's arse off.

Exactly, Froch may not be a A talent, but his self belief and ankward style makes him a A fighter, yet he could win the super six and people would still claim he sucks.

I think some fighters lack a killer instinct, but also that with shortened fights (12 rounds), better training (cheating) methods and the vastly improved trickery used by fighters it becomes awfully difficult to stop somebody. They either need to change the ounces OR they really need to enforce the rules against holding, mouthpiece spitting and all those other tricks. Holding needs to be punished like lowblows and you´d see a lot more KO´s, simply because today´s fighters not only lack in offense, but also defense.

80% of the time, when Fighter A holds and Fighter B pushes him off hard with both hands, Fighter B, who pushed off gets the warning from the ref. It´s ridiculous. Obviously Fighter B wants to get on with the fight, because he feels Fighter A is in an uncomfortable situation. But in the end Fighter B gets the warning for "self-defence", while the person who committed the original crime gets the free out of jail card with a little gift on top.

I can't say I'm too surprised by how this fight panned out. Dawson has been getting crazily overrated for quite a while. In fact, so far as I am concened, he is THE most overrated fighter on the planet.

It's hard not to like Pascal, really. His fight with Froch was a tremendous affair and he showed plenty in that losing effort to suggest he would still go on and do well. Credit to him- he has.

It was my first time seeing Pascal's fight and I like him.I don't care for the way he fights but unlike most fighters that fight like him,he's actually tough and is a real fighter at heart.

 

yep, i must admit that since the Froch fight, Pascal has surprised me with his heart and determination. At the beggining of his career, he looked like a typical heartless frontruneer, while he has proved to be a very tough guy.

till, I must admit that I'll take some credit for a prediction a made at the beggining of Pascal career, after he destroyed james crawford. Said he would be the best Quebec fighter ever. While it nearly made me look like a fool wen he was getting wobbled all over the place by garbageman omar pitmann, this prediction turned out to be true

 

This fight proves how underrated Froch is on here. Carl is always derided on this forum as a guy who doesn't have the first idea how to box, bla bla bla, yet for all his faults has only lost one fight in 27 against tough competition like Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell and Kessler. Regardless of whether you fought he won or lost against Dirrell (I thought he lost), the guy has yet to be beaten up or "schooled" in a fight. It's about time he got some respect in this place.

I don't think Chad is overrated 1 bit. I just think that Pascal fought a smart fight on top of Chad not letting his hands go. I also want to say that perhaps the lay-off hurt Chad. I mean he hasn't had a fight in atleast 8 months. We shall see in the rematch which I think he will win very easy. I do also want to say that I don't feel he was on the verge of stopping Pascal. Styles is how Froch won that fight with JP.....Froch was the perfect foil...he didn't try to box JP mainly cos he can't. So he just pressured him and slugged him.

Bottom line is a lot of folk including myself got this one badly wrong.

Well done Pascal.

 

Dawson sure does a good job of looking menacing during the staredown. But he damn sure fights like he wants no part of an opponent.

Takes zero chances. Main priority is to not get hit. Fights scared.

Boxing desperately needs some excitement back. We are missing the KO artists that put on shows and make people want to come see a fight.

 

Pascal vs Bute should be big in montreal ! I think that happens before the Dawson rematch. In case Bute wins. Who do you think takes it in a Bute vs Dawson match?
