Highly-touted UFC heavyweight contender Shane Carwin was named Friday alongside six other athletes in federal court as a group of twenty-two individuals who obtained performance enhancing drugs from Applied Pharmacy Services, an Alabama enterprise associated with the illegal distribution of anabolic steroids around the nation.

Carwin’s association with the operation was reported by a local Alabama online news outlet. The 12-1 Mixed Martial Artist was named in court documents as having received steroids at some point between April 2004 and August 2006 according to order-forms initialed by one of the recently-sentenced doctors linked to APS.

The 6’4″ power-packing knockout-specialist made his professional MMA debut in October 2005 and participated in a total of five fights during the span in question. No official comment has been released from Carwin’s camp in regards to his alleged involvement in the case.

Agreed. I wonder in what condition Toney will show up. Don´t think he cares about a positive test at this stage and neither does the UFC. If he turns back the clock and stops Couture, he´ll unofrtunately be a hero to the boxing community, even if he fails the pisstest.

The UFC doesn't care about steriod use? The UFC will kick your ass out if you fail a test. Not sure where you're getting this opinion.

The same way the NFL, NBA and MLB care. Little slap on the wrist and after six months you are right back in the mix. I´d rather be a star make 250k a fight and serve a six months to a year suspension that costs me one or two paydays than earning 25k forever.

Carwin also had a tendon in his bicep tear twice in 2006. (you can see the scar) A common injury for a steroid user.

Then there are guys like Barnett who still aren't welcome in the UFC. The UFC certainly doesn't condone using steroids.

Especially a steroid using weightlifter. James Toney had the same injury right around the time he was caught using.

If remember correctly, James Toney was suppose to fight much later, and had injured himself in the booker fight. while trying to heal his injury, he took Stanozolol. Which does speed the healing process. Now when called to fight Ruiz, it was a last minute thing. He took the fight on short notice, not realizing he had this drug in him. This drug that has been approved by the FDA for helping muscel growth and repaid like that of a torn tenden. So Toney is just a victim of stupidty for taking the fight on short notice IMO.

You can tear muscles without steroids...particularly when you do the type of training these guys do. I had a bicep tear when I was 20.

That has always pissed me off about the NFL and MLB. The penalties should be far more aggressive. I'm sure what they should do exactly though.

But for anyone popped a second time, they should be banned from the league forever in my opinion.

And by the way, I'm not sure why you would single out the UFC, they are far more rigid than other MMA organizations.

Ah, yep, that would be way worse. Still, a childhood friend of mine was doing overhead tricep extensions with a fair weight and tore the tricep tendon right off the bone along with a sizeable amount of bone. It happens, but I'm not saying that's the case with Carwin.

Yeah for sure it happens and it doesn't mean a guy is on steroids at all.
