This would be the worst fight in history. The fans would be begging for Oquendo/Ruiz 2. All I know is Pea and his fans would say he won no matter how disgraceful and uncombative Pea was in the fight.I say WB would would win if I had to make a pick. He was a very good fighter although I do not enjoy watching him.

yeah, it's the type of fight where no matter the outcome, one half will scream "robbery."

I'll take Benitez in this one, though it's tough to gauge what Whitaker was capable of at 140. He only had what, one fight there?

Yeah, but that one fight at 140 may have been his best performance, against Pineda.

WTF are you talking about? This would be a great chessmatch. Two truly great technicians. How dare you compare bums like Oquendo, and Ruiz to the likes of Benitez, and Pea! Pea I think would actually push the fight, while Benitez would play counterpuncher. I cant make a confident pick either way, the only two things I'm sure of is that it would go the distance, and it would be close either way.

And the trash talk would also be memorable. Both were arrogant, and liked to talk shit. Theres a good chance there'd be a fight at the press confrence.

Cervantes was a hell of a lot better than Pineda and Benitez whooped him.

And Benitez, although he lost to Hearns, showed a lot of heart and amazing instincts I thought.

And let's not forget: he gave SRL a run for his money, who I consider to be a far more formidable opponent than Pee Wee.

When did I ever say that Pineda was better than Cervantes? All I said was that the Pineda fight IMO was Pea's best performance, even though Pineda's hardly the best fighter Pea beat.

And Pea didnt show heart? Tito broke his jaw, and still Pernell hung in there. There was NO bitch in Pernell Whitaker, cause last time I checked, he never took a dive in his career.

Whatever. I saw Leonard/Benetez and it was unwatchable with a bullshit ending. Pea/WB would be worse. I am so tired of Pernell being called a great tactical fighter. The guy will tell you straight up what his approach was. "I hate to get hit." He was good technically. However, he supplemented that with a fuckload of running(a fuckload is 2 shitloads), holding as much as Ruiz, Hatton and Duran and fouling. So stop bullshitting. I have unfortunately seen almost of of Pea's fights. There has never been more bullshit and distortion told about any fighter other than Hagler and Duran.

Benitez was naturally bigger, had more power and at 140 was just as fast if not faster.
Pernell had a better defense than the wizard that was Benitez, and better stamina.

Tough fight to call and could go either way. Maybe one of the toughest fights to call a winner that I have ever thought of.

I would probably give a slight edge to Whitaker though.

I can't call it --- honestly. I don't know if one was better than the other defensively --- they went about their defensive craft in different manners, applying it in different ways. Whitaker was better offensively, but Benitez was bigger, & just as swift all-round. Impossible to decide.

Two of my favourite all-time fighters, incidentally --- I could watch either all day.

Benitez/Cervantes was fairly close for the first 11 rounds or so

Whitaker won every second of every round against Pineda

I figure thats enough to even it out if you are going to shit on Whitaker's win

nothing you can say, no amount of revisionism can change the fact that Whitaker was one of the greatest and most dominant fighters ever to breathe

Whitaker at his absolute best was virtually KO-proof, if ever such a fighter existed.

Both fighters will leave the fight without any signs that they were in a fight. Simply because..it wont be a fight. It'll be a dance.

    Whitaker by split decision.
