oh fuck off with this racial resentment stuff, you wee mick bastard Hagler beat Briscoe, Cyclone Hart, Monroe, Watts, Antuofermo, Minter, Hamsho, Roldan ... all of them good, strong, capable middleweights and all of them better than 95% of the guys Calzaghe beat
Wow, i thought you were talking shite but am genuinely impressed instead. Would love to see it after hearing conflicting reports based on hearsay about the fight over the years.
Never seen it personally, as Salaco said there are conflicting reports about whether it was a robbery or not, I just found it funny that one of the best fighters in the world P4P was carrying a loss to someone as ordinary as Richie Wenton. That's cool you have it though man, I wasn't even aware there was footage of that fight around.
that is a fight i dont need to see to know it was a robbery. Ive seen wenton and that is all i need to know. not to mention the bout took place on st patricks day. i suspect nacho beristain was managing johnson back then.
ive spoken to johnson ( a pious lad, of the utmost integrity) about it a few times and he insists it was a robbery.
Yes....Fulgencio Oblejimas or whatever the fuck his name was. Not only did Hagler fight him....he fought him....TWICE:atu::atu: Oh, that and that Club-Foot from Italy, Antuofermo. Hagler vs Oblemeijas....in Italy. Those were the fucking days, bubba.:Wah::Wah:
Fair enough, I'd suspect it was not kosher although it was a four rounder plus Johnson's debut, and these things happen. I doubt it being st. patrick's day would have helped wenton on that card, more likely that being allied with whatever promoter was involved with dave boy mc auley would have done the trick if he was regarded as a promising 'home' fighter. btw, there is apparently a complete version of sibson-minter out there.
Crap, I blew that one completely. Hill was not a southpaw, and I was thinking about Tszyu's fight with Jake the snake. When Tszyu was trying to figure out a southpaw.
How about a nice cup of STFU?:crafty:................even Ring Magazine wrote an article complaining about how Hagler was fighting this scrub Oblemeijas.
Pudwill, despite being unimaginably awful, went the distance with Ottke as well as fighting Calzaghe. He was also a two week replacement for Thomas Tate, who pulled out injured. MTF
When the omnipotent super computer overlord takes over and shows us this at the end of our 130 hour work week to enjoy high on our soma dosage, I'll bet you my friend.:cheer:
in 1981 perhaps but I dont think they could have envisioned a "champion" like Calzaghe... fighters like that didnt exist back then, there wasnt a shitty division for them to co-rule unspectacularly against utterly shitty fighters
whats funny is that wenton was a super bantamweight his entire career except that one fight, at super flyweight. go figure.
