    Fuck Duran.

Chavez ought to change his name to d'Chavez and claim that spot.

"Greatness" can transcend sport, though. It's a tricky word and a tricky topic.

The question should be re-phrased in that instance, to greatest sports individual or personality.

Greater fighter, is the one who fights greatest.

Being the HW champion made you famous because of the relevancy of the division. The most famous fighter of all time being a benificiary of the greatest era of HWs of all time and beating them. Most of the high profile ones, of course while being past prime.

you are talking about Ali here, right??

who was past prime when he beat them? also, take into consideration where Ali HIMSELF was, after a THREE YEAR EXILE when he had many of his toughest opponents

his signature win against Foreman, which guy was past it again?

Sorry, horrible wording, I mean he was past prime when he fought most of his high-profile fights.

Anyone else delighted that cunt Calzaghe is nowhere near the C list.

And oddly enough, the writer seems to be counting Cassius Clay and Muhammad Ali as two different people.

    cool, no problem

I agree that it is significant, but I dont think it makes him better than a guy who was more or less the champion of four weight classes at the same time in a pretty terrific era

I really cant believe how highly some people rate Calzaghe... his competition was positively awful and he was often far from dominant against them... and the Hopkins fight was pretty close considering the guy was 800 years old... and decisioning a Roy Jones that my sister could wobble with a punch, while getting dropped in the process, is nothing to brag about

The guy was a good fighter, but nowhere near great

i noticed ibeabuchi under 'i' basically because there aren't too many notable fighters whose name starts w/ i. but seriously, can anyone think of a fighter whose name starts w/ i that was better than a heavyweight contender w/ two significant wins?

off the top of my head, only fighter i can think of is paul ingle and he wasn't very good.

Yes, because I am such a HUGE 1930's and Carnera fan (because I talk about him ALL the time) and need to inflate his opposition to make him look better, and.... Oh, wait...I'm not. Nice try.

You, on the other hand....

:giggle: come on! If you begin to take shots against others (funny though it was) you need to have the skin to be able to laugh at yourself too. Sorry for the colored emoticon, couldn't find it black and white

I WAS laughing, did you not notice the laughing emoticon in my post?

It was kinda funny, despite the fact that I am not even close to being the black & white era fan you try to paint me as.

Pretty far-fetched. I wouldn't even have him over Jim Jeffries.

    Far-fetched, huh?

The Galveston Giant could have whipped Jeffries when Jeff was on top, in fact, he would have stopped Jeff sooner as he would not have had to carry him.

Nothing against Jofre, but why would you pick him over Jack?

I wouldn't, but I thought since it was the Ring and Bert Sugar they'd go with Jofre.

It's all opinion, mind. I don't think Jeffries loses to Johnson at the top of his game. I would wager a pretty penny he sure wouldn't stop him, even if he did win.

Not that there aren't better choices at, 'J' than either.
