Both men get hit way too much...but Gman has teh better chin and the better power. This is the difference here.
McClellan absolutely stuns the crowd with a violent and swift knock-out of the HBO-coddled big-headed arrogant staffingfected fucker Pavlik.
I was. Until he showed his true colors and revealed his complete out-of-touchedness and arrogance he apparently got having beaten Taylor (two fighters have managed to do so as well since - gee, seemed to happen when Taylor stopped fighting 154 pounders.)
I don't like Pavlicoccus but I like him here. He was definitely bigger, stronger, hit as hard and took as good a punch as Nigel Benn. Kelly is a tall mother with a good reach. Nothing fancy that is going to get him into real trouble. I think he can come off the floor to win this.
Have to favor the G-Man because of his superior beard. It's possible Pavlik gets blown out early if Gerald lands something huge, but i think the more likely scenario is a war with both guys doing their share of damage.
Competitive for a bit, but McClellan is the harder puncher, with the better beard. I think he puts Pavlik down in about four-to-six. There'd be some fireworks.
Has Pavlik been cut before? (I don't know) I see where you're coming from though....I can see Pavlik being stopped on his feet one way or another.
McClellan by knockout. No matter what their intentions early, the fight eventually turns into a shootout. And with neither fighter boast having any regard for defense, as Sly mentioned you have to go with McCellan's better chin and power.
Pavlik is taller than Benn and is marginally less weak around the whiskers but there is NO FUCKING WAY he punches as hard as Benn did. Nor was he stronger than Benn. :nono: Pavlik is a decent champion and no more than that. McClellan did everything Kelly does but better and would have starched Pavlik in six. MTF
Not only that, but McClellan had become home-run or strikeout by that point anyway. The fight I think of when making my assessment for this MM is when Pavlik fought Miranda. IMO, that was the best available version of him, from the punching power, to rate of activity, to overall toughness. Yet even in dominating a walking-dead version of Miranda, he was still bruised up, literally soaking his head and hands in ice for minutes at a time for nearly an hour after the fight while screaming in pain. And that's with Miranda enjoying any sort of success in maybe two or three rounds in that fight. Any version of McClellan was better than the Miranda that showed up that night, and arguably any version of Miranda period.
I wouldnt say McClellan is that much better at everything than Pavlik save for his chin, which sadly for Kelly is really going to come into play...very entertaining matchup, end is KO by McClellan in the 5th maybe
McClellan was just an utter monster. You have to pick him in a matchup against any other limited defense brawler. So much so that you even have to pick him against Nigel benn in a mythical matchup...even though Benn basically killed him when they actually fought. I think that fight was an anomally. If they fought Ten times...the 1 time was when benn was going to win. Nigel basically capitalized on his 1 in 10 chance against G-man.
Gerald's only big edge was NOT just chin. He was considerably quicker as well. Of both hand, and foot. And yes he was by FAR a bigger puncher. Kelly is heavy handed, and relies on accumulation. Gerald had legit one punch fight ending power.
I dont think its much of an arguement. Gerald was light years better than any possible version of Miranda.
Not sure if McClellan now could beat Miranda This is the third time Xplosive has started the very same thread btw. the only difference being that it turns more and more into a mismatch
Theres plenty of posters who post the same matchup multiple times over the years. But its not like Ive switched my pick. Even at the height of the Pavlik crazy I picked G-man. Most everybody else did too I think. The 2nd round of Pavlik-Taylor 1 is why Kelly has little chance vs Gerald. If you think about it, if Taylor wasnt the worst finisher in history, no one would have ever cared about Pavlik.
What good is Kelly's height really gonna mean though? Pavlik was taller then Benn, but its a fact that he did NOT hit as hard as Nigel. He wasnt as quick as Benn either. PLUS... Benn at that point was able to bob n weave and avoid some of G-man's bombs when he got in trouble. When Pavlik gets in trouble, he'd just be stiff and straight up still.... and unlike Taylor, Gerald knew how to finish.
Pavlik is a pure puncher. I mean, just how fucking hard DID Benn hit? I would rate them equivalent in terms of power. Who did Benn really fuck up? Eubank? No. Collins? No. Watson? No. Malinga? No. I mean, Nickey fucking Piper went 11 with him. 11 rounds versus this killer. Even McClellan, whom he near-fatally injured, took a knee and basically allowed himself counted out. He knocked out Doug DeWitt and Iran Barkley. Barkley was drained, badly drained for that fight. And DeWitt.... Nah...I think Nigel is metamorphosing here. I never liked Pavlik and you all know this....but the thought of Nigel knocking out Taylor with any greater aplomb is beyond me. Nigel hit guys plenty and couldn't stop them. Kelly's problems involve hitting them, cos he's too slow and mechanical and dumb.
