We got Frankie Edgar vs. B.J. Penn (Penn sub 3) Randy Couture vs. James Toney (Randy tko1) Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard (Big fan of Kflo. I'm not sure if I even saw Gray fight before. Probably have but dont' recall who he is) Demian Maia vs. Mario Miranda (Know maia. Don't know the other guy. I'll go with Maia sub 1) Nate Diaz vs. Marcus Davis (I always get the Diazes confused all the time so I'm not sure which one this is. Don't know the other guy either I think. So no prediction)
Maynard is going to give Florian and serious fight. Hope he's been working on his subs off his back. Maynard is probably the best wrestler at 155 in the UFC. Nate is the Diaz that fights in the UFC, he's the younger smaller Diaz. Toney is going to get wrecked. If there was a style of boxing that isn't going to work well in MMA, it's a defensive style like Toney or Mayweather. Toney especially depends on fighting inside a lot, it's a little harder to work inside when the other guy can grab you at any time. BJ will get the win he deserved the last time.
Rooting for Gray. Gerald Harris doesn't have an opponent unfortunately. Wish they wouldve given him Maia. Wouldve been an easy win for him.
Penn sub 4 - I think Penn's more aggressive this time around, and subs Edgar after hurting him on the feet. Toney sub 1* Florian UD - very tough fight to call. Florian has the edge on the feet, and he's also a threat off his back, not only with his JJ, but with those sharp elbows. Maia sub 1 - don't know a lot about Miranda, but from what i hear, he's nothing special. Maia had no trouble imposing his style before he fought the big guns at 185, so unless Miranda is a lot better than expected, Maia should be able to tie him into knots on the ground. Davis KO 3 - Again, another tough one to call. Davis is a tough bastard, and with Diaz only just moving up to 170, i can see him wearing the younger Diaz brother down and forcing a stoppage late on. *just kidding. It'd be the funniest thing to ever happen in MMA, but lets be realistic.... Couture is gonna take this fight to the ground very early on, and at that point the fight will be as good as over. I can see the fight ending with Toney is a compromising position where he won't have a clue what to do next, other than just cover up and wait for the ref to jump in, or opening himself up for an easy sub.
Shit would be funny if Toney knocked randy down and turned his back rose his hands and went to neutral corner for the count. Only to ger RNC from behind by Randy.
I'd schedule 7 holy days of laughter if Toney sparked Couture, but the chances are slim. 1/8->1/10 I'd estimate. I think Penn exacts emphatic revenge. I hope Davis wins, though I wish he'd use his strength with his hands more and stop continuously trying to prove how 'well rounded' he is. Play to your strengths! Don't give a shit about the other fights.
I think Penn destroys Edgar quick. I would be suprised to see this one get passed round 2. And Edgar is a fav of mine. Z is right. Maynard is a straight up beast in wrestling. He owned Frankie Edgar for 3 rounds with double leg takedowns and GNP. And Frankie is an All American wrestler himself. Kenny better have his take down defense working and his Mauy Thai ready to kill. I see Diaz catching Marcus in a sub. Hopefully Marcus knocks his ass out beforehand though. I see Randy/Toney ending boring/badly. Randy will probably win a very non eventful gnp fight.
If Toney wins i will be laughing. THe post fight interview where toney calls out God would be worth it for me. Im a Toney fan more than a randy fan.
I would love it if Toney strectched Couture out on the canvas arms stiff in the air within the first minute. There could be nothing greater that has ever happened in the UFC.
Couture doesn't have a great chin, so it's not like Toney has no chance. It's a slim chance, but it's still a chance.
i saw footages of toney training on sportcenter. he looked like he's in better shape than he was while he was boxing the last 4 years. couture is one of the more likeable guys in UFC, but i hope toney puts his lights out. hope bj backs up w/ his words, but i wouldnt be surprised if it's another dull affair. don't really care as to who wins.
It's worth watching the countdown show. I saw it last night, they had Toney in there doing some basic stuff. Of course it wasn't at full speed and intensity, and it wasn't Randy Couture he was facing...but it showed that Toney is trying to learn, and he pulled everything off as well as you can expect, considering his experience and all. His camp were obviously talking him up, which obviously needs to be taken with a pinch of salt....but i believed the trainer when he said that Toney is a very fast learner...soaking things up without even appearing to be listening at times.

What about the liver? Can Toney generate enough power from a clinch to destroy Couture there or is that a target area. One thing that you rarely see in MMA is the body attack (with punches). Doesn´t seem like a target area many MMA fighters are aware off or capable of attacking. Brandon Vera badly hurt Couture with a bodykick in the 2nd round, of course Vera is pretty dumb and never followed up. Of course Toney likely won´t have much time to do damage, but maybe it´s too easy to focus on a headpunch. A boxer with these types of gloves, maybe the body is an option.
Kflo's gonna win big and get a rematch with Penn, who will also win. Toney will do better than people expect, defending the take-down, but he will lose ultimately by decision.
I don't know what this response means, which is no surprise seeing as how it's nothing but a emoticon - one that you didn't design yourself, but rather took the time to add to your response, rather than to bother yourself with composing a logical or reasonable response.
Diaz vs Davis----- Diaz looked extremely strong in his first fight at 170 against Markham the last time out. Davis is old and shot. Diaz destroys him in all aspects and wins a UD. Florian-Maynard---- This is a tough one for me. Florian was absolutely controlled on the ground against the best wrestler he's faced to date in Sean Sherk. But Kenny has done a great job since then against solid wrestlers like Huerta, Stevenson and Guida. Unfortunately Maynard is several steps above those guys and even a step above Sherk. I will reluctantly take Florian via submission after cutting Maynard with elbows from the bottom. Maia-Miranda---- Well, Miranda is basically Maia Light. Same basic skill set just not as good at any of them. Maia can beat anyone on the ground and he survived on his feet against Silva. Maia wins this via 3rd round TKO in a pretty sloppy but fun standing brawl. Couture-Toney--- Despite Toney's fat ass weighing in at 237 which makes me think he hasn't trained hard, I am going to stick to my earlier take on this fight. Couture doesn't have the ability (or the reflexes now) for fast double leg take downs. I think Toney catches him coming out of a clinch or after a referee seperation and stops the old man. There is this huge misconception that Couture has been this wrestling maven in MMA lately. He hasn't. Penn-Edgar---- This fight, like the first time, is confusing to me. Edgar's only advantage is wrestling which he barely used in the first fight. Personally I think Penn needs to turn this into a brawl and let the fight go where it may. I don't think Edgar can control him on the ground and I don't think Edgar can win slugging exchanges. The only thing Edgar can win are standing exchanges from a distance where his speed wins the battle. I think this ends up like the difference in Penn-GSP II but this time it is BJ that uses his superior size and skill to go right after Edgar and completely fuck him up. Great match ups. Great card.
Frankie Edgar (154) vs. B.J. Penn (154) -- for lightweight title Randy Couture (220) vs. James Toney (237)-------------------------------------------------------------- Kenny Florian (156) vs. Gray Maynard (156) Marcus Davis (170) vs. Nate Diaz (171) Demian Maia (184) vs. Mario Miranda (185) Spike card Joe Lauzon (156) vs. Gabe Ruediger (155) Nik Lentz (155) vs. Andre Winner (154) Non-televised card Dan Miller (185) vs. John Salter (185) Nick Osipczak (171) vs. Greg Soto (170) Amilcar Alves (171) vs. Mike Pierce (171)
Trp you are really slipping. The fact you don't think a man whos been in the sport as long as Couture can't take down James Toney is mind boggling. And a fun standing brawl? Miranda would kill Maia in the standup, Maia needs and will take the fight to the floor. It's the most dangerous fight on the card though because Miranda's wrestling isn't awful...
If nothing is happening against the cage, the ref will stop them and bring them to the center of the ring. Same on the ground. If they arent working, the ref will stop them and stand them up.
Gotta disagree with you there. The ref is always stopping the inactivity. Herb Dean is notorious for it.
