As I said to Jake...he never used to be always conservative. Even Ian Darke was able to realize that the guy packs the hob-nobs in at his events. A lot of women, a lot of glizty sorts, packed in with the day-jobbers in the cheap seats. He appeals to a lot of people, he's not some "workers hero" like Hatton and he's not a playboy either.

One thing Wlad has going for him in comparison to Lewis....he doesn't try to rap or rhyme during his press conferences.

Lewis tried too hard with some of that...but hey, when you're an all time great heavyweight pugilist specialist you can do what you want.

Why Lewis bothered giving the crowd extra verbals is beyond me. He should have left the arena after the fight was over. After all, he doesn't get paid for overtime. Hasbeen.

Oh, and Mike Tyson never had Charisma. The man was pathologically unstable. He may have had an allure which people found irresistible but serious traffic accidents have the same thing.

Would anybody consider Kelly Pavlik as a fighter who had charisma...and lost it? (Or he never had charisma, or he never lost it.)

He's not the first fighter you think of charismatic, because he's quite slow in the ring (especially his feet)...but he's a power puncher, and his fights with Miranda and Taylor (at 160) were compelling. The Hopkins loss, not as much...at least not for compelling for what he was doing.

That could be an interesting sub-topic...fighters who had charisma, who grabbed your attention in the ring, but for whatever reason don't anymore.

Zab Judah, early in his career 140 had some charisma...even in his two rounds against Tszyu, it was there...can't say he had the same amount at 147, not by the time he was fighting Clottey, anyways.

I think I'd go with Marcela Acuna.

The Argentines seem to be enthusiastic of their fighters as it is, but her popularity seems far above what it should be. They love her there.

Pavlik seemed a self-confident sort of a guy, but the bottom line is that he is just too much of a small-town dude to be "charistmatic". Kelly is really a low key sort of guy.

    Zab is a retard. KnowWamSayin?

and I don't dispute that Wlad is the best heavyweight in the world (until he fights his brother, anyway). But just as popularity and charisma aren't one and the same, neither are dominance and entertaining.

This is typical message board bullshit. You hold me to a comment made seven years ago and ignore anything I've had to say about him since then. I have no beef with him and often defend he and Vitali in my column space where others cry and whine that because they won't fight each other, we're stuck with two champs instead of one clear cut ruler.

His earlier stuff has nothing to do with this conversation. And I already agreed that outside the ring, he carries himself well and connects with the crowd, so I'm not sure what you're harping on about. His past several fights have been largely disinteresting.

No, because none of his fights reach that point these days. It's a testament to his dominance, but also speaks to his reluctance to fight like a big man with big power. Vitali is just as dominanti, yet I find myself more entertained with his fights primarily because I know he's more inclined to close the show.

Therein lies the difference - Wlad has the power to stop any fighter at any given time, yet elects to finesse. Vitali has punishing power, but in a sustained sense where it takes more wear and tear, yet he's willing to put in the work to get the job done.

If we're talking about boxers competing right now, James Toney comes to mind. It's an act, and he acts the part well, but he is really funny...even though he is much harder to understand now.

Pac comes across as a bit boring in his interviews.

Pac is having his stuff scripted for him.......ever since he got "big" and entered the political fray, the guy has become more and more routine in his expressions.

Did you see his youtube video....he moderates the comments, to the effect that he had thousands of views...and no comments. I guess every comment is like your and mine.

The lad is despised. Now that he basically is through fighting, he is going to wind up being arrested in some drugs/porn/child molestation sweep and wind up shot dead on the steps of some doss-house.
