I'll let the MMA haters think Toney took the money and ran if that helps them cope with the one-side ownage. Whatever it takes to ease that pain is fine with me.
MMA guys fall down real fast. Im not talking about submissions im talking about guys who get hit and just fall down. If you have seen enough MMA fights then you will have seen this happen many times.
He got taken down. That's not getting hit and falling down. You do understand the difference? Check Griffin-Silva and you can see the difference for yourself. If you can't see the difference im sure i can get a lot more examples for you.
So what's your point? Gloves are smaller? MMA fighters have weak chins? They use loaded gloves like Margarito? I hear you but you're not really making a point. You do realize the 4 oz gloves make a difference right. In fact, to quote James Toney "...with the small gloves I ain't gonna just knock him out.. I'm gonna kill him." :giggle:
Your a funny guy. I wouldn't expect an MMA fanboy to take kindly to any critisism to their favourite sport. You do realise that the gloves don't make any difference in power right. Bas Rutten hit with the same power with the 4oz as he did with the boxing gloves on. They have weaker chins and they are not as tough. Griffen fell down from a slap while the smaller middleweight Silva was moving back. If that happened in boxing it would be the worst quit job you have ever seen. In MMA it's the greatest thing anybody has ever seen.
Wait, let me get this straight, glove size doesn't make any difference? So why did boxing switch to bigger gloves? I could have sworn, yes I'm sure I read it somewhere, that it had to do with damage inflicted. And could there be a more moronic statement than "they have weaker chins." Who the fuck is 'they'? Are MMA fighters a different species or something? Do boxers have different jaw bone structure? OK, I have to recant some statements from years ago. I no longer believe I & I is the dumbest poster I've ever seen. You win!!!
I dont know whats more embarassing for Boxing, Toney or you debating about it. Please shut the fuck up.
Man, this has to be on of the most ignorant post I have read in a long time. Have you ever thought that the smaller gloves allow for more precise, damaging shots?
I'm surprised an MMA dick sucker like yourself hasn't watched the programme called the science behind MMA. On there it shows that the boxing gloves hit just as hard as the 4oz MMA gloves. Ill help you out heres part 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdqik8VhzTQ
Did you read the post? Here is the part you might have missed: There is no debate from me. Two different sports. Two different sets of rules.
I will not mention who because I don't want to be accused of calling someone out, but someone previously referred to MMA having a "culture of quitting".
Part of the reason why Panama Lewis and Luis Resto were banned from boxing was for removing padding from the gloves. It doesn't necessarily mean the person hits harder with lighter gloves, but it means the hand is less padded and protected, and the person being hit will likely suffer more facial damage. The gloves might not make a difference in power, but they do with the damage inflicted. However, MMA gloves are made the way they are because people cannot grapple effectively with their fingers completely covered in padding. I would argue that boxing gloves actually allow you to hit harder and more times because your hand is better protected with the bigger gloves. There's less damage to the hand. With MMA gloves, your hands are less protected, but so is the other guy's face---and not just because of the gloves. Bare fingers will cause more damage to an eye than a padded glove because the glove doesn't fit in the eye socket as easily.
the difference isnt the power, it is just harder to block/see punches with smaller gloves. thus resulting in cleaner shots landed
Given your experience, curious about your opinion on something. If there isn't greater damage done by smaller gloves, why did boxing increase glove size claiming it was for the safety of the fighters? Seriously, if glove size doesn't affect damage then how can bigger glover be safer? I don't have your's or Karl's experience but I have been hit with bare fist, MMA gloves and boxing gloves. I haven't scientifically measured either but I know which hurts the most.
There have been many critics of the bigger gloves, myself included. Bigger gloves = fewer concussive knockouts. That means, when fighting with bigger gloves, more punches are landed. And that means the brain rattles around in the skull more often. So even though the fighter isn't being disconnected from his senses, the impact still rattles the brain. A one punch KO is far less damaging, long term, than a 12 round beating.
So are you agreeing that the smaller gloves equal more one punch KO's? If so then you disagree with Winner BC and side with the MMA guys. Good job. Damn, too easy.
Yes, absolutely I agree that smaller gloves = more one punch KOs. Nothing easy about it, I think for myself. It's harder to compare to MMA, because the fighters aren't as good at throwing, and more importantly how to react to properly take a punch. You'll see a lot of one punch KOs in MMA, because a lot of those guys really stick their chins out there when they're throwing shots. Junior Dos Santos is a good example of a brutal one punch KO waiting to happen.
There are many MMA guys that are brutal KO's waiting to happen. The MMA stand up style lends itself to open shots because of the threat of take downs, low kicks, etc. On top of that, most MMA fighters simply don't have the boxing backgrounds necessary to be great on their feet.
last post is pretty accurate. to prevent takedowns/leg kicks you must make yourself a bigger target. different stance = more vulnerable...when was the last time you saw a boxer squared up to his opponent throwing bombs?
You can, however, still tuck your chin while you're squared up throwing bombs. That's a skill a lot of these guys would be suited to work on.
