Wasn't there some holding in the Barrett fight?

  3. Hanz

    Hanz Roberto Duran

Ray Mercer was an old man. Notice how Wlad was holding on for his life after he got whacked by the Sanders hook in the first round?

  4. Ugotabe Kidding

Ugotabe Kidding WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

yes, that was an ugly fight, but it was more that they got tangled up when Barret rushed ahead

  5. Irish

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

The Mercer fight had a good ending, when Tommy Brooks tried to comiserate Mercer and Mercer got all snotty with him and the press who were trying to take photos.

Wlad showed every punch in that fight. Jab, hook, uppercut, right hand downstairs, straight right, cross even a left hook downstairs.

He was never the same, in terms of his outlook, after the Sanders fight and by the time Manny was through with him we basically had Lewis II in terms of the style.
    .
It will be interesting to see how he deals with Peter next time out. Peter will be emboldened by a comination of his own stupidity and the relative success he had in their first fight.

  6. Hut*Hut

    Hut*Hut The Mackintosh of temazepam

It's fair to say Wlad is right up there with young Tyson and Louis in terms of the completeness of his offensive arsenal.

  7. Ugotabe Kidding

Ugotabe Kidding WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

Blasphemy! Wlad's technique must only be compared to Primo Carnera and perhaps Jim Jeffries

  9. Hanz

    Hanz Roberto Duran

It's easy to do that against basically a 42 year old washed up old man who's half your size.

  10. BOSS

I see that Hanz posted something but can't see it cuz he's on my ignore list !
    LOVE IT !!!!!:Ramonza:

    You never fought Wlad.

  12. Hanz

Nice one Irish! Except I'm 48.

Peter will be emboldened by nothing. He isn't going to try to win.

  14. Irish

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

    David Haye should fight you.

  15. Hanz

    Hanz Roberto Duran

Nah, he wouldn't wanna fight me. With my wrestling skills, I'd just pull a Couture on him. Go for a single leg and choke him out ala James Toney. We all know boxers can't fight for sh*t outside of a boxing ring. Haye is cake!

  16. steve_dave

    steve_dave Hard As Fuck

I know a guy who used to wrestle in high school, he would beat any boxer alive!

  17. Irish

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

That's easy. Beating them to death is the hard part.

  18. Hanz

    Hanz Roberto Duran

He probably could. We seen all boxers are like fish out of water as soon as their back hits the ground.:crafty:

Yeah, Wlad looked awesome against the washed-up Mercer. I bet he was equally dominant against the heavy bag while training for this fight.

  21. steve_dave

    steve_dave Hard As Fuck

But he threw.... every punch in the book!!!

  22. Ramonza Soliloquies

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

No one really places much stock in that fight though, I don't think? Mercer had definitely had it by that point.

  23. Irish

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

Of course not. It's just an entertaining mauling. That said most fighters of any weight cannot throw a triple-left hook, on the bag or the mitts, never mind use a triple hook to take out a heavyweight who had never been floored by a headshot before.

Even Reed describes some of Wlad's lefts as "Roy-esque"

  24. Hanz

    Hanz Roberto Duran

Corrie Sanders showed a phenomenal arsenal of punches against Wlad I thought. Each punch thrown with murderous intentions! Nobody saw this coming! Wlad was the heir apparent at the time to Lewis.

Watching that I always used to wonder why people said he had a "bad chin".

If he had a bad chin he would have been out cold after the first or second, but even after the 4th, he was still getting back up.

His chin is average. But not absolutely terrible, as people make out. Sanders has troubled ANYONE he can hit clean.

Of more concern from the Sanders fight was his lack of knowing how to ride out being hurt. He has learned that under Manny, at the cost of some of his more entertaining facets.

Nobody says that Emile Griffith had a bad chin when he was blasted out in 1 by Hurricane Carter.

  26. Hanz

    Hanz Roberto Duran

I can agree. His chin is shaky and his legs aren't so sturdy when he takes a shot. Even Vitali was rocked badly and stumbling backwards from the only decent punch Sanders landed in that first round. But I'd say anybody who gets hit that cleanly from the lefty powerhouse would be hurt.
Wlad obviously can take the shot well enough since he's still conscious after it.

  27. broadwayjoe

    broadwayjoe Undisputed Champion

Ummm...that's pretty much what I said. But folks like Irish like to point to it as if it were actually relevant.

  28. Ramonza Soliloquies

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

I was only agreeing with you.

  29. Irish

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

You don't have to apologize to this guy, Ramonza.

Mercer had been sounding off for weeks about what he was going to do. Then he got brutalized, and became upset when they put cameras in his bashed up face.:mj:

  30. Haymaker

Sanders punched beautifully. Loved that Left Cross.
