Yeah I wasn't going to say anything in case the Yanks were waiting to watch it later, but, you know what, fuck that......it was live on a stream for anyone who wanted to watch it so......

....Maxboxing are to hold an inquest by the way. They are in shock.

Don't know what was up with Burns tactics, leaning on the ropes and getting clocked...also his fitness seemed a bit off. But he boxed beautifully for large parts of the fights and it was a classic example of how a feather-fisted guy can do damage if he lands often enough, cleanly enough.

Good win and I hope he makes some money out of it.

I guess I should have said spoiler but...watched it on stream myself. Burns got dropped and stunned a few times but again this fight showed that a punch only gets you so far.

Martinez reminded me a bit of Nestor Tigre Garza, with his plodding, short-punch style...a fighter with a bit of pop would kill Martinez. He can crack, but he is a sloppy, untidy fighter. His preparation looks like it might have been off, too, I heard he was underweight.

You are being far to polite. His flailing Primo Carnera punches have never impressed me. Don't know anything about his prep. Seems to be the default excuse these days depending on the fighter. He lost so he left it all in the gym.As far as weight goes he looked fine at the weigh in.

I was not aware of a purse bid but would like to know how this ended up in Scotland.

    Frank Warren.

Warren is not popular but I always thinks he does OK by his fighters in terms of delivering title shots and engineering pay-days for average talents like Burns, Cook, Hunter etc.

It's the fans that Warren rips off more than anyone else.

OK thks. I cant stand Warren. He can do and does well domestically I am sure. I think he's A milkman and probably cut Hattons boxing life in half and for that he can [IMG]

Anyway good to see Burns do what he did. Cook fell short.

    Apparently pin head was understated.

Was working so I missed it, but Im delighted to hear he fought so well. Burns is a good, Glasgow man, that handsome people can really get behind, unlike other recent champions that could be named.

Yeah, it was a decent fight, all of the skill on display came from Burns, with the power element being provided by Martinez. With a bit of seasoning and conditioning, and some selective matchmaking, I can see Burns sticking around for a bit longer with that title. I hope he doesn't piss it away with domestic "barnburners" vs Alex Arthur and Nicky Cook.

Nah, he was from Irvine. A rough, boarded up bad egg battery farm in northern Ayrshire. Not far away.
