    THIS!!!...

Your Last 2 Sentences Hit the Mark, SQUARELY...Lewis was the HEAVIEST of his Career vs. Vitali...& Vitali Landed MORE Flush Shots on Lennox than Even Rahman Did....

Buddy's point was that Lewis had not time to roll with the shot that did for him. He was right, albeit because Lewis was stupid enough to be pulling silly faces at the time he got hit...

Not exactly. The Rahman punch, at least, was not a Hail Mary. He moved into it perfectly, but Lennox liked to try and roll his head to his right to try and roll with the impact. Rahman stepped way too far into the pocket to let Lewis get away with that. The Rahman punch was beautifully placed with very good speed. Lewis just couldn't get away from it, and took it badly.

I would not call Rahman a harder puncher than Tyson or Mercer, but Tyson was too short and Mercer didn't have the footspeed or handspeed to put the bomb in the right place. His power, however, was more than enough to lump up Lewis' face pretty good.

Pretty much. It's an opinion which sits uncomfortably with what has been known to happen in these kind of fights.

We could take....Marciano-Charles II. After all, Marciano had never stopped Charles, had he? Who was to say he was going to do it in the next round when he hadn't done it in the preceding 20? Stop the fight.

At the very best, what Reed has promulgated is opinion at best. Not that I have a problem with opinion. I have a problem with opinion being presented as written-in-stone fact. Dead certainty.

The fact that Lewis was pulling stupid faces and generally acting like a dumb cunt at the time seems a more likely (albeit less scientific) explanation for his being waxed...

WTF does that have to do with what I'm talking about? Are you ascribing that to me? I didn't say it was good, and I appluad Vitali's efforts because no big man utilized the jab or upper body movement as effectively against Lennox.

You're right though in one sense: what we have is what we have---which is why people are debating the possibility of what could have happened and not what actually happened.

This thread isn't really important either. Vitali would have lost, and did in fact lose.

Lewis simply went into that fight bereft of the correct mentality, fostered as it was by Manny Stewards preposterous claim that travelling and fighting on the road was a good substitute for acclimatization at altitude.

It was my referring to that, and other points, in the Peter-Wlad thread that caused others to revisit these issues.

Well it has fuck all to do with Euros, though your use of the word belies your mindset.

Lewis landed cleanly with the right at the start of the 3rd round.

That started the cuts. He leaned in with the right and landed.

The lacing exacerbated the matter but that came later.

Yep, he went from clown to ground in short order. He tried to roll away from it, but Rahman was too close and the bomb was already there. MAN, that was a headturning knockout.

Incidentally, Vitali rubbed at his own face at one point and almost peeled his own eyelid off. The HBO camera got a pretty good closeup---or should I say a pretty BAD closeup.:jaw:

Ok ok, nothing wrong with that. Enjoy "Klitschko Weekend" and I'll tilt a pint in your honour when Sam Peter gets the leather face massage. :nana:

I wonder if Sam ever took the advice and got Vitali's son to pee in a diaper for Sam's face. You never know.[IMG]

I called it Klitschko Weekend because absolutely NOBODY is talking about the fight, as such, but rather about some tangential, remotely-related stuff.

If HBO showed the correct punch in their super-slow-motion, which was supposed to show how the cut started, then it was a punch that did not land properly but Lewis' wrist caught Vitali's eyelid.

And yes, I have an agenda here, since I am a known Lewis hater

In my eyes I think that Lewis was on the verge of Stopping Klit. I thought that he weathered the storm and started coming on. And after that upper cut that had Klit crip walking back to his corner was the beginning of the end for him. I'll Holla 5000

I actually think you're wrong about that. For one thing Lewis has faced many punchers who've landed good shots on him and the only fight where he (technically) was unable to finish was against Rahman. Against McCall he was on his feet before the ten count but the ref felt he was unable to continue much to Lewis' dispute.

So this tells me one thing, Rahman likely caught Lewis with a perfectly placed punch and it didn't help Lewis that he was also out of shape. No I believe history has shown that Lewis had a very good chin and it had nothing to do with rolling with shots. That is a ridiculous assumption you pulled out of your ass IMO. Rahman is no faster of a puncher than anyone else Lewis has fought and might actually be slower than most.

Lewis may have looked tired, but he often did in fights, & what a lot of people don't notice in the fight was the nice short RH Lewis landed toward the end of the last round while they were both on the ropes that had Vitali hanging on for dear life.
Lewis would have won. probably by stoppage (which is what he did do, BTW)

Couldn't agree less. Lewis clearly wasn't as motivated to fight post-Tyson as pre-Tyson. The shape he he came into the Vitali fight in is testimony to that.

His interest in fighting was basically spent. There is no way that Lewis "avoided" the re-match with Vitali because he thought that Vitali was better.

What if their was no long count in Durelle/Moore 1 or Dempsey/Tunney? It's a shame that a Lewis punch opened up the Panama Canal. What if Jersey Joe got the nod on Louis? You could have opened a school in that cut.
