I agree. But by the same token if Juanma is reckless like he was against Concepcion, he'd be in trouble.

Rios was MUCH Larger than Peterson Tonight...Nonetheless, it's Pretty OBVIOUS that Anthony ISN'T Tooooo Faaaaaaaar Removed from his Older Brother, Lamont, in the POWER Department...

Anthony LANDED More than Enough CLEAN Shots to WIN this Fight (EXCLUDING the Low Blows:nana:), but he NEVER EVER Hurt Rios, from what REED Saw...Moreso, Even as Barry Hunter PLEADED w/him to Get His & MOVE, Peterson CONTINUED to Stand Right IN FRONT of Rios...

Some will Probably Say that Peterson PURPOSELY Got himself DQ'ed, but REED Likes how Peterson STAYED IN the Pocket Throughout...Even when he was HURT, Peterson STAYED IN the Pocket, Perhaps to his DETRIMENT...

It Remains to B Seen if EITHER Peterson Brother is "The Good's", but they've BOTH Shown HEART & TOUGHNESS in their Losses...

Ant showed heart? Brah, he basically quit. He knew it was only a matter of time before Rios stopped him, so he fouled his way out. Thats a pussy move in my book. He may not be total bitch like Cintron, but I def think Ant has some dog in him.

And speaking of fighters that have dog in them, Rios wants to fight Ortiz. I'd favor Victor being as though he's got a much better skill set, and prob bigger guns, but if Rios made it a dog fight.... ya never know.

Peterson Stayed IN THE POCKET Though, Brother X...It's NOT as if Peterson RAN or EMBRACED Rios Everytime he Got Close, he FOUGHT him...Sure, the Low Blows Got RIDICULOUS, but MOST of those Shots were Right @ OR just UNDER the Beltline...Only 1 or 2 were BLATANT Lowblows...

But like REED Said, MORE Times than Not, a Guy will RUN or CLINCH when he's Looking to SURVIVE or Get OUT of a Fight...Peterson REMAINED in the Pocket ALL THE WHILE, ATE Left Hooks, Straight Lefts & Uppercuts ALL NIGHT & Did what he Could to Fire Back...

The LB's looked pretty intentional to me. At first they could be deemed as Tito-like LB's, to attempt to change the tide... but after that they just turned into the type of fouls used to try and force a DQ.

When you land more than a dozen of your money punches and the guy is unfazed, its time to find a new line of work.

Yeah. Golota stayed in the pocket with Bowe. He still fouled out and went batshit.

Peterson has great fluidity and natural movement.

I do feel for him in that he was basically fighting a guy who came in 2-3 divisions bigger.

That is because most of the audience in that arena were mexicans and cubans with little desire to learn English.

Well, that was only partially my point.

There isn't much difference between the word "new" and "nuevo".

And any real boxing fan would have known that the minute the MC said "and new IBF" that there could have been only one winner, namely Gamboa. Had Salido gotten the verdict the IBF title would have remained vacant, thanks to him not regaining weight appropriately.

But when the winner was announced as the "New IBF Champion"......the crowd remained silent....it wasn't until Gamboa was named in Spanish that they knew WTF was going on.

It's one thing to not speak English. It's something else to not even know why you attended a fight.

Rios is a badass. It's a shame that Valero died, i would have paid big money to see that fight. As it is, i would still like to see him fight Katisidis that would be a bloodbath.

Gamboa has gone from the most exciting, talented up and comer to a boring stinker. Don't really care to see him fight anytime soon.

He was throwing combinations that were low. No way that wasn't 100% intentional.

I just want one of these guys to step up and fight Caballero. If the best 140lbers can finally fight each other then one of the top 126lbers can step up and fight Celistine.

When LaMont Peterson signed to fight Tim Bradley, I knew there was no chance of a victory. Why? Because that Peterson brother has absolutely NO power. Unless you are on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. level of skill, you CANNOT beat A level competition with no power, plain and simple. Particularly if you are up against someone who can both box and punch reasonably well. Even if you are unable to truly stagger or drop someone, that power keeps it real, and often causes the opponent to give up a certain part of their game because they know what's coming.

Anthony Peterson was always different in my mind. I figured from the start he'd go farther simply because you don't need to be quite as good in the skill department if you can bang. A few mistakes here and there are acceptable when you have 12 rounds and one or two punches can change the fight. Now, it appears that Anthony Peterson really isn't much more of a puncher than his brother. Against truly inferior competition, sure, he's got a little more pop. But even against B or B+ fighters, he appears to be questionable, even when he did indeed stand in the pocket and throw bombs. This bodes ill for him, since he isn't as good of a pure boxer as his brother. If this was not just sort of a flukey stylistic issue with Rios, Anthony Peterson has a dim future IMO. He is simply not good enough to win at a high level unless he can hurt those top tier guys.

Rios kicked the crap out of Peterson and credit is due to him... HOWEVER...

this fight illustrates the complete idocy of previous day weigh-ins

the myth of weightclasses is just that, a myth

when you have a Junior Middleweight fighting a Junior Welterweight in the LIGHTWEIGHT division, theres a problem... it is ridiculous that this practice has been allowed to exist for so many years

boxing needs same-day weigh-ins, among a million other things wrong with it

Agreed. That psycho dying fucked up alot of good matchups.

I woulda loved to have seen Valero vs Marquez, Maidana, Rios, Katsidis, Ortiz, Bradley, Alexander, Conman.

I think he woulda won some, and lost some of those matchups, but they all woulda made for excitement.

This is a really good point. How fucking fair was it that Rios got to be 11 pounds heavier for the fight? There needs to at least be some kind of set cutoff to how much you're allowed to rehydrate to.

I agree. I blame the promoters mostly though. Arum sees too little reward and too much risk in Caballero.
