Pretty much. Wlad just knew better how to deal with it. I sincerely thought Peter would offer more and maybe he would have but he was hurt FAR earlier in this fight than he was in the first. In the first fight it wasn't until the last round that he wobbled...this time it was the 2nd round. And in the first fight his eyes swelled badly from the 6th on....here his eye swelled from the 2nd on. Peter had regressed and Wlad had improved. I missed the regression, no denial here. However, like so many rematches, Marciano-Walcott II, Louis-Walcott II, Louis-Conn II, Morales-Barrera II, Louis-Godoy II etc, the guy who won the first showed a massive improvement for the second.
Everyone was picking anyone who could punch vs. Wlad at that point. And for good reason. It looked like Wlad was finished at that stage... I mean he was getting dropped by Touch of Sleep. Peter has regressed since 2005, too.
:bears: Good show, Irish. It was tough to miss going in, but I'm glad you see the regression now. Better late than never.
Okay then...off what did you base the fact that he had regressed? He lost to Vitali- I suggested that the 8 round beating would have an effect, the same as it does to everyone who takes a beating from Vitali {Williams, Sanders, Johnson, Arreola, Johnson {K} } but Peters next loss, a la Arreola, was when he was palpably out of shape and in against smaller slicker fighter. He didn't lose since, had taken very little punishment since, was still only 30 and had maybe 30 really hard rounds under his belt. His weight seemed to be as big an issue as anything. Once he lost that, I figured he could get back to his clubbing, brutish best.
It was the lack of heart and desire he showed against Vitali and Chambers. That, and I look at this stuff with no emotion, just call it like I see it. And I know what I'm looking at. We basically agree, I just knew something as a fact that you didn't. If I didn't know that Peter was finished near the top of the division, I would have been looking forward to this fight too. But I did, so this fight was meaningless to me. It wasn't a real fight. Not a real championship level fight, anyway.
