Um yes. They were legit boxers. Are you ok today? You arent going to win this debate my friend. Jimmerson was as legit as Mayweather and Pac. They are professional boxers. Made their living boxing. Legit. Look up the word
Uuuuh, the Debate was "Won" when U ACKNOWLEDGED that the UFC Milks Jimmerson Under FALSE Pretenses...Webster's May Define it Differently, but in REED's World, it Takes MORE than a Mouthpiece & Trunks to B a "Legit" Boxer.... REED:kidcool:
them and charlie zelenoff both. art jimmerson didnt wear a glove because he was gonna be jabbing all night (as they said on ultimate gracie) he wore it because he had a scheduled fight. he didnt want to even hit the guy barefisted, and knew nothing harmful would happen to him. layed down for a pay day (not like he wouldve won anyways) and ive never believed thats why they picked royce. rickson started teaching separate from the family, of course after the gracies reunited they made it seem like any of them couldve won and they picked royce because he was the worst. i think renzo or royler lose to ken at ufc 1.
Best post of the thread. And I would pick Ken to beat Renzo as well at UFC 1. No doubt at all Ken would've destroyed Royler. Most think of Ken as a joke nowdays, but the guy was a legit badass. He was already past his peak at UFC1. The guy's body had already been through a gauntlet of wars.
What does it take to be considered a 'legit boxer'? Just curious. It seems everyone is on the same page that Jimmerson sucked and was propped up way, way too high by the Ultimate Gracie piece and by the UFC. But how is he not a legit boxer? It's not like the guy is Stinger Karl or some dude that hung around the gym. Jimmerson was a career opponent. He wasn't even borderline elite. But he was a legitimate boxer. You guys are trying way too hard to discredit the talent in the early UFC and you're really preaching to the choir. I don't think there is anyone on this forum that thinks UFC 1-5 were a collection of the best-of-the-best. But by the same token, it's not like they picked guys with little or no experience in their respective disciplines. The events were showcases for Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and no one is trying to revise that. Let it go.
That wasnt the debate. There would have to be an opposing view for it to be a debate. The debat was whether jimmerson was legit or not. And he was.
Well, not everyone that throws a kick or chop can be considered a legitimate karate practicioner.... Or at least I think that's Reed's logic.
Make no mistake the UFC was trying to hype Jimmerson more than he was. But lets not forget the UFC wasnt really Legit then either. There is no doubt the Jimmerson isnt in the same league as Mayweather, but he is a pro boxer just like him. BTW, Jimmerson's level of skill IMO doesnt mean shit. If a boxer only knows how to box, he wont be very successful in MMA. You need more than One dicipline. These are two different sports.
But it's legit now, right? So why are they still lying about Jimmerson? Also, "MMA" didn't exist in UFC 1.
What liberties? What was legit about the UFC? They didnt have a clue what the fuck they were doing. There were no rules. A ref couldnt even stop a fight if a person was being beaten to death. You have got to be kidding with this bullshit.
I don't remember. How did they described Jimmerson in the Gracie documentary? I thought they called him a champion of some sort. Obviously that isn't a difficult claim in boxing with all the alphabet titles. But I do remember thinking "When the fuck was Jimmerson a champion of anything?" So like any good sheep, I checked BoxRec only to find that the illegitimate Jimmerson actually won the HIGHLY coveted 'International Boxing Council Americas light heavyweight title'. :: Oddly, he also fought four more times for various belts..... and lost.
Saying a guy is the 10th best cruiserweight in the world back in 1993 is like saying a chick is the 10th best looking hooker in Ontario. It sounds nice but it really is relative.
Nobody is defending anything. You are picking a fight with people who agree the UFC is hyping the bullshit on this one. Calm down
If that sounded like anything other than sarcasm, you need to work on your comprehension. I think I've made it clear that the UFC hyperbolized everything about the fighters in UFC 1-5. I even THINK I remember typing that the events were designed to be a showcase for Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Nice try but I like the sport not any organization. It's like being a fan of boxing but not neceassarily liking Don King or Bob Arum. You should understand that analogy.
Yep, it's either come into the MMA section and slam "Cage Fighting" or go into the General Forum and be forced to revisit the Mosely-Mora mega PPV. I don't blame you. I'd be in here as well given that option. ::::::
You need to brush up on your sarcastic tone. Don't look at me, man! We all know why those events happened. It's common knowledge. But that doesn't excuse the UFC TODAY from still lying about it.
