I thought at first it was Juan Manuel Marquez but then again Wlad is not Floyd. This fight doesn't bother me and at this point Wlad could fight anybody and it wouldn't make much of a difference since the heavyweight division is dead and everybody else sucks. I guess this fight makes sense and could be big in France.
Weight at heavyweight is not an advantage. Height is but not weight. Weight makes a great deal of difference at lower weights. Analogy here for you it's like a 19 year old fighting a 30 year old (fair game both are adults) opposed to a 16 year old fighting a 12 year old (only 4 years but big difference there)
The Klitschko's should leave no undefeated guys remaining when they retire. Better choices at this stage include Povetkin, Solis, and Boytsov. I don't mind the Mormeck fights since Wlad has been fighting regularly, but I can't say I'm looking foward to it, either.
Povetkin flat out ducked Wlad so he's out of the question. Atlas won't let him near a klitschko. I agree about Solis, he'd probably take the fight too. Boystov? Little early I think, I don't think his people would let that fight happen, at least not yet.
why is weight not an advantage at heavyweight? if both guys are in shape, or at least the heavier guy. seems to be a big fucking advantage if you read mythical matchups where modern guys are favored.
That's because a lot of old timer heavyweights were actually light heavyweights and cruiserweights by today's standards. Are you saying if you have two heavyweights of the same height and one is 220 but the other 260. The guy who is 260 has an advantage based on weight alone ?
Take from this what you will, but in things like vertical jump, sprinting etc they tend to find that raw explosiveness relative to bodyweight will increase among athletes until they get to about 195-210lb. Then the ratio will drop off pretty quickly. Which is why you rarely see sprinters or impressive vert jumpers above that size. Perhaps there's a connection to that, in that there basically TENDS to be a marginal rate of returns in power above a certain weight. You even see that in raw strength sports which aren't relative to bodyweight with guys like powerlifters where above the 220-242 divisions, the difference is strength becomes more and more marginal and you often see 242lb guys holding records. And when you factor in that increased size will be offset in boxing with co-ordination and stamina issues, you can imagine there might be a general tipping point where the increase in strength doesn't help as much as those things hinder. I still think it's an advantage, if both guys are comparable athletes, just that it seems LESS of an advantage than it is at lower weights.
Weight is an advantage without knowing more. The point of weight classes doesn't disappear once a guy weighs 201 lbs.
Weight is an advantage yes. So is reach, speed, power, chin, heart etc. All things you can't change very much.
Well now let's just check this nugget of brilliance from you Neil. For openers, nobody actually knows how much more flid weighed than Marquez cos the bitch refused to take the pre-fight unofficial weigh in. Most objective ball-parkers put the fight-night weight difference as 15lbs. Now 15lbs at heavyweight is a lot. But at welterweight...it's three divisions north. We know Floyd weighed over the 146 agreed and we know Marquez weighed 4 lbs than that. So for openers there is a 4lb discrepancy on the scales. Not to even factor in the unofficial difference. Wlad's last fight was against a guy he outweighed by 5-6lbs on the scales. Of course, there is the Chambers fight but how much more did Flid weigh than Hatton???? Taller guy, bigger guy, heavier guy, bigger neck, bigger fist......Hatton probably weighed 150 on fight night. Be real. Floyd is carrying the significant size advantages here.
I read today that Wlad has offered Derek fuckin' Chisora a shot at the title... British and Commonwealth heavyweight champ Dereck Chisora has been offered a world title shot by Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko's adviser Shelley Finkel made the proposal to Chisora's promoter Frank Warren and they are mulling it over. IBF and WBO king Klitschko has pencilled in December 11 for his next title defence and wants to fight the Londoner, who retained his British title on Saturday by stopping Sam Sexton in nine rounds, in Germany. Warren is considering Klitschko's offer and says he will do what is best for Chisora. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/more-...title-shot-to-dereck-chisora-115875-22582377/ MTF :laughing::nono:
hopefully there is a day coming soon where i wont have heard of a single heavyweight contender. :bears:
No he's not, he just beat Sexton, who beat Rogan, who beat Harrison who is WORLD CLASS BABY. Chisora could very soon hold a win-by-Floyd over David Haye.
One thing that irritates me is how the Klits are always referred to in tandem. Like how If one beats a guy that beat his brother, then that is treated as a defacto victory for the other. When their careers are over, I won't be surprised if this continues. Mythical matchups will always feature both. It's like they get two chances at every matchup.
It's because of mindset. The mindset of the American Media and the British Media too is that these guys are the twin heads of the same beast. Killing one is not enough because the other fella then goes and get's a significant win. Even when they both lost in short period of time, March 2003-June 2003, it happened to be that Vitali looked decent enough to keep the brothers topical and relevant.
