Holyfield beating Royce back in the early 90's is as unlikely as Toney beating Couture in a rematch. Actually, I'd say it's even more unlikely since Toney trained in mma for a bit.
So if I "trained in MMA for a bit" does that mean I would have a better shot than a peak Evander Holyfield?
Size and strength count for something guys. Royce was 178 lbs and would not be able to just trip Holy to the ground like Couture did to Toney. I would say 99 percent of the time a MMA fighter is going to win in an MMA fight. Holy is not some fat ass helpless Toney or a one gloved idiot like Jimmerson.
You do realize that Royce got much, much bigger guys than Holyfield to the mat, right? In addition to bigger guys, he also got guys with far more grappling experience to the mat. Again, you have to put this matchup back in 1993 when it wasn't 100% understood like it is now that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was all about getting the fight to the ground. It would have been tough for Holyfield to stop Royce from, at the very least, pulling guard. In my opinion, this fight isn't even close in 1993. I think Gracie chokes or armbars Holyfield in less than 5 minutes.
UFC tried so hard to make out that Jimmerson was some kind of boxing great. No other fighter got as much shine and build up as Champ Art Jimmerson.
There was nothing scrubby about Shamrock either and didn't Royce make him tap in less than a minute in their first fight?
And Holyfield wouldn't be? Call him a black belt in boxing if you like, he'd still be a complete scrub in mma.
Not in 1993 he wouldn't be. They can call those guys what ever they want, Holy was a real world class athlete. These other guys were not.
He also was not in his late 30s, like Severn was. Holyfield would have been very live in UFC 1. Holyfield vs. Gracie in 1993 would have been a great fight. Peak Holyfield with no gloves is a scary guy to share a cage with.
Holyfield would have been 31 and severn was 35 in 93. Unless holyfield has some kind of ground game, royce takes him to the ground and subs him in 5 minutes.
Yep. I think i'm going to take a few bjj classes. After that i'm going seek out every boxer i can find and easily kick all their asses. Pac, Klitschko, Hopkins et al better run and hide once i learn a super double reverse upside down leg lock. They'll have no chance against me.
I have zero BJJ experince and I don't think a guy who weighs 30+ pounds less than me would be able to easily take me down and sub me. Sorry I just don't.
