    Briggs furious at Vitali

Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (51-5-1, 45 KOs), who will face WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko on October 16 at the O2 World Arena in Hamburg, Germany, is outraged by Klitschko allegedly calling asthma a good excuse. “There are 300 million people in the world with asthma and not one of them would agree with Vitali Klitschko that it’s nothing serious,†said Briggs, a lifelong asthma sufferer. “Isn’t he supposed to be a doctor? A doctor of what???

“I have been in the trenches of this deadly disease and seen the heartbreak it causes,†he continued. “I spend every day trying to convince young people stricken with it that they can be anything they want in life, despite their challenges. What the world doesn’t need is someone who’s supposed to be a role model dismissing their condition as no big deal. These kids are not faking and neither am I. I am now personally dedicating my knockout punch to the sufferers of asthma worldwide that Vitali has offended. I plan on being a three-time world champion who respects people and their challenges.â€

He's not dismissing the affliction, Shan --- he's dismissing you. You're also a one-time world champion (& that, on a gift), so don't go blowing up that head of yours --- again.

Klitschko is dismissing him the way the HW division should've after Lewis ended his fifteen minutes...

Briggs put on too much weight, he can barely move and it's not because of asthma. No way he catches Vitaly.

Shannon Briggs has the best chance of dethroning Vitaly out of anyone on the scene. He's huge, a veteran and hits as hard as a mule, especially to the body where Klitchko will be available.

I've always hated Briggs, but I'd love to see him K Vitali TFO. He definitely hits hard enough. And he's seasoned at not tiring himself out - he knows how to conserve his energy.

    I think so.

We're talking about a guy who was DOMINATED by Jameel McCline almost 10 years ago.

    LOL!

Here, he fashions the Tarantula into a Medusa style. It's almost like a volcano of worms, or spaghetti bubbling out of his cranium. Interesting...

Agreed. Awful. And he was the lineal HW champion 13 years ago.

And he's done nothing but regress since.

i'm not defending him, but he did knock out Sergei who at the time had a belt, having taken it from Brewster. so it's not accurate to say he's done nothing since.

I didn't say he's done nothing since. I said he's regressed. And the Liakhovich fight was over four years ago. After which, Sultan Ibragimov beat him easily.

Briggs doesn't have a punchers chance here. This fight is a farce.

And Liakhovich went on to lose 12-0 decision to Valuev in his next fight. Yet he was leading Briggs on cards and only lost cuz he was exhausted and got tipped over and through the ropes by a couple shots...Briggs sucks and will get beat up big time. Vitaly will make him quit around the same time Peter quit..

I know Vitali will win. He'll make Briggs fight, and consequently, Briggs will fold. But that doesn't mean I can't hope Briggs wins, knowing if he does it will create some drama, and put some doubt into Vitali's head.

I just can't believe a 38 year old Briggs, that hasn't had a meaningful fight in better than 3 years, is the best opponent they can find to fight the best HW on the planet.

Seriously, Briggs? The guy hasn't been under 250 pounds in almost 10 years. he hasn't thrown more than 10 punches in a round since the 80's. He is an absolute joke.

    Unreal.

Nope I just have inside information that Briggs is on a powerful cocktail of steroids and he's punching holes through people in the gym especially to the body. Put your money on Briggs for this one!

Unless you plan on betting on Vitali, you're throwing money away.

Well I'm not saying its a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination but if you could get 20 - 1 odds on a guy you believe could win then why not?

Some people throw a 100 punches a round freaking Briggs doesn't throw a 100 punches a 12 round fight. It's that sad. Vitaly will pepper him with akward shots till Shannon has enough and stays on his stool. Vitaly tko 9

I'm surprised that you think Briggs can actually go 9 rounds. I think it's going to be much shorter. Like 3-4 rounds. Vitali isn't going to let him fight at a pace that will allow him to go more than a few rounds.

If Shannon lands 3-4 clean shot on Vitaly i will be surprise....he probably won't land 20 punches the whole fight...

Briggs IN HIS PRIME would have had little chance against Vitali..let alone 20 years later! :notallthere: I swear..some of you guys simply don't know boxing....

Briggs is a likable person. But honestly, that's about it. Briggs will shoot his load in the first round. Everyone will get excited. Then he will basically be dominated and KTFO. . If this was a "Who takes the best steroids" contest I would put Briggs in with the best of them. Briggs vs McCline and Pacquiao.
