Foreman was able to regain his title against Moorer. Had Holmes gotten his chance here, what would have happened? Holmes didn't have the power of George, but he was much the better boxer and had more pop. Is that enough to repeat what Foreman did?
Really? I don't think Moorer would KO him. In fact, Holmes would do better than George did and win perhaps three rounds, but chances are that he would not land that 1000:1 shot and thus would be outpointed
By 1994, Holmes was in no condition to beat a young powerful southpaw like Moorer..and he didn't have (as you said) the power to cause a miracle. Moorer could BANG and Holmes would not have had the power or strength to keep him honest.
Moorer by somewhat competitive decision sounds about right to me. Holmes probably would not be knocked out, but he'd need more respect for Moorer's power than he had for Holyfield. The southpaw stance, the outstanding jab --- the quick gloves, & handy power --- Moorer had the weapons & tools to do it. Of course, he could get lazy during fights, & Holmes would have messed with his head at some point, IMO. Atlas would steer the course & Moorer would turn around losing rounds nine, ten & eleven for a strong final stanza, & with it, an 8-4 decision.
agREED. By '94, Moorer was done as an action fighter. Teddy had his hooks sunken in pretty well, which meant the beginning of the end as far as his fighting spirit went. Moorer by UD.
