Some of these guys did it better than others, but they all appeared relaxed in the ring with smooth and even movement

    Toney
    Eddie Muhammed
    Alexis Arguello
    Jose Napoles
    Foreman (90's)
    Salvador Sanchez

    Who else?

note: one of the reasons I was high on Joel Julio is because he fights in similar fashion but I left him off the list because obviously he just doesn't belong.

Oh ya especially at the end of the the Glen Johnson fight. Guy was so relaxed it's as if he wasn't even aware he's in a boxing ring looked like he was by the beach or something catching a tan..

Being relaxed in the ring is advantageous, yes.

It depends on the style. It can help a lot for counter-puncher types in particular.

A stressed fighter is prone to fatigue much more quickly than a relaxed fighter. James Toney is one of the rare guys that can spar hundreds of rounds without seeming to be tired, but probably couldn't run around a city block without vomitting.

Contrast that with other athletes who particpate in sports that require a lot of stamina but gas after just one round of light sparring.

Muscle tension would seem to be a big factor in that.

I agree it is an advantage. I am just referring to LL's other thread. In my opinion a victory that is achieved by fighting tense is as worthy, but I could be wrong

Roy Jones? Are you serious? The guy's the most nervous, twitchy fighter I ever saw. Relaxed fighters let their hands go. And don't throw one punch at a time the way RJJ did. No. RJJ was not a relaxed fighter.

No. But it's one of many LEGAL ways to win. And it indicates a fighter's confidence in his skills and his instincts.

Roy only looked relaxed when fighting fighters he was far far far superior too. In other words bums. In other words most of the people he fought.

Naseem Hamed, on occasion, especially early in his career.

Chris Eubank when he knew he was facing a bum, which was often.

I hate it when these turn into 'name good fighters' threads instead of addressing the gosh dam question.

Relaxed isn't quite the same thing as lazy, but the difference wasn't specified so i guess it counts.

Hasim Rahman seemed like he was usually relatively relaxed in the ring.
