:dunno: REED Honestly Doesn't Go to Any Other Sites for MMA Info & He HASN'T Heard "Bones" Jones' Named Mentioned Around Here in Awhile...So What's the Latest???.... REED:kidcool:
These are his comments on a fight with Silva: Confident Jon Jones thinks he'd have an advantage in a fight with Anderson Silva By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief "I'm confident because I study, study, study and, yes, I have some physical attributes that maybe give me an advantage. The long arms are something I was born with. But the way I pull off moves, the timing of the way I do my moves, it's all because of my passion and love for this sport. I'm confident because I work hard. I'm a warrior. But cockiness is not where I'm at. Financially, I'm not the most successful fighter. As far as stats, I haven't broken any records. As far as Hall of Fame, I'm not there. As far as being a champion, I'm not there. I have no reason to be cocky. I just love who I am, I love what I've earned and I love this sport... I've bathed myself in Anderson Silva. I think I'd have an advantage going into a fight with him because I've studied him so much. I've patterned my career after Anderson. You can't really say you know Anderson Silva, because, like me, he can pull off pretty much anything he wants to pull off, whatever he trained for that specific fight. So, you can't know Anderson Silva, but you can understand who he is and how he thinks and how he operates." -Jon Jones talks to Kevin Iole at Yahoo.com about the misconception of him as cocky and his thoughts on a potential future matchup with Anderson Silva. Penick's Analysis: Jones certainly has some physical attributes and has continued developing his skills, and he could provide a challenge for "The Spider." But it's far too early to say he can pull it off at this point. Still, he's a tremendous fighter and one of the best prospects to come along in some time. His fight with Ryan Bader is going to say a lot about where he's at both as a fighter and as a viable challenger to the light heavyweight crown. But come this time next year, we might be looking at a scenario where Jones and Silva could match up, and it would definitely be one hell of a fight to see
<!-- h2>News Item</h2 --> Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones targeted for UFC 126 in February by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Oct 02, 2010 at 1:05 pm ET A matchup between two of the brightest prospects in the UFC's light heavyweight division appears likely for early 2011. A long-discussed contest between "The Ultimate Fighter 8" winner Ryan Bader (12-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) and the dynamic 23-year-old Jon Jones (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) appears likely for the as-yet-unannounced UFC 126 event. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the planned date from sources close to the event. UFC 126 is expected to take place Feb. 5 in Las Vegas and feature a middleweight title fight between current champion Anderson Silva and dangerous striker Vitor Belfort. Jones' agent, Malki Kawa, recently told MMAWeekly.com he was hoping for a Jan. 1 booking for his client, but that now appears unlikely. Bader recently earned a high-profile decision win over longtime veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at this past-month's UFC 119 event. The win was Bader's fifth-straight in the octagon and 12-straight victory overall since turning pro. Meanwhile, Jones fought most recently in August, when he needed just 1 minute and 52 seconds to dispatch of another longtime veteran, Vladimir Matyushenko. The prospective matchup between Bader and Jones has been rumored for months, and "Bones" talked about the potential contest on Friday's new edition of HDNet's "Inside MMA." "If that's the fight to have, I'm excited," Jones said. While Bader's wrestling credentials are well-documented, Jones said he sees the contest as a chance to proves his own grappling prowess. "I've been trying to prove that since my debut," Jones said. "I'm trying to secure a respect level in my wrestling. I'm sure Ryan Bader, the advantage he'll have going in is to be 'the better wrestler.' I want to try and prove the UFC wrong again. "It'll be fun." While the UFC's 205-pound division is one of the promotion's deepest, the winner of the Bader-Jones contest will certainly emerge as a top contender. And should he prove victorious, Jones says he hopes to face someone with a different skillset than Bader and past opponents Matyushenko, Matt Hamill and Jake O'Brien. "I'm ready to fight some strikers; I'm ready to fight some southpaws," Jones said. "I'm ready to really mix it up, maybe some jiu-jitsu black belts., but if this is what I have, this is what I have."
Bader vs. Bones is a big fight for both fighters. The winner of this fight is definately in title contention.
Everyone is writing off Bader after he struggled with little Nog but it's funny becasue he wasn't even favored to win at all. Bader is live, I think Jones will be the favorite becuase he's looked great but Bader is no walk in the park for anyone. Jones has never fought anyone on the level of Nog, so who knows what happens when he steps up to that level. Bader will be the best guy he's ever fought.
I'm pretty sure he was the bookmakers favourite...not by an awful lot maybe, but he was generally favoured. Jones has an awesome arsenal. Bader's style will give a lot of fighters problems, but not Jones.
I'm not so sure about that. The fancy spinning elbows and kicks will cost him dearly against an accomplished wrestler like Bader. I also doubt he is able to take Bader down as easy as he did his previous opponents. I see Bones winning this with his striking.
Bones was a champion wrestler in High school and Junior College so he has a background. Not on Bader's level, but still.
agREED that a Fight w/Anderson Silva is STILL a Bit Premature...Jones is Younger, Bigger, Stronger, but he Still Hasn't Been TESTED Enough to Warrant a Fight w/Silva just Yet... REED:dancingBaby:
Great Fight for BOTH Guys...& Kudos to Dana White for NOT Being Afraid of Matching 2 Well Known PROSPECTS Against Each Other... Thanks for Posting these Tidbits, Godfather... REED:cheer:
Logically Speaking, a STUD Wrestler Type would Force Jones into a More DISCIPLINED, Technically SOUND Fight...All the MORE Reason this Fight Should B Made... REED:hammert:
His credentials dont indicate he is a better wrestler, but we shall see. And where do you get the MUCH bigger part?
Who the hell cares about credentials. First of all, credentials don't mean shit in MMA, otherwise Jake Rosholt would shit on guys like Jon Fitch. Second of all, you can't even compare the two because Jones quit college after his freshman year to do MMA, and in his sole year, won a national championship as a freshman at the JUCO level. And he's much bigger period. He's 6'4 and cuts from 240lb with an 84.5 inch reach. The guy is so big he can barely make LHW anymore and has said that in a few years his move to HW will be compulsory. Compared to Bader who's just your average 6'2 225lbs LHW.
As for the wrestling, i said We shall see. You very well could be right. As for the much bigger. Bader cuts from about 240, i dont know how you could say that about Jones. Here is a quote from Jones "... training camp has been really tough for me. I actually got up to about 231 (pounds) for the first time..."
Personally I wouldn't say anyone is a better wrestler than Ryan Bader until they match up with him in the cage. Bader proved his ability over a pretty remarkable Division 1 college career.
http://www.mmamania.com/2009/03/31/...fc-fight-night-18-interview-with-mmamaniacom/ Baders said on two occasions his walk weight is 225. Jones is from 231, my numbers are off but I remember hearing something about walking at 240. Probably got confused with all the Bones interviews Ive heard But there is also a difference between walk weight and camp weight.
Regardless, neither guy is "MUCH bigger" than the other. I would venture to say that Bader isn't ever going to be much smaller than anyone at 205. He is 6'2" and drops 25-30 pounds to make weight. He is a big 205 pounder. That being said, for me this fight is too close to call. Both guys are obviously solid wrestlers. Jones would seem to be the better all around striker but Bader has shown he has good power in his shots. The fans win big time on this one. It is two great LHW prospects that are not being protected in the least. They are being thrown in with an equally hungry prospect. I can't wait.
Bader is a well established wrestler no doubt. But I have to agree with TLC on this one. Bones is a badass wrestler in his own right. Just because he didn't take the natural path that guys like Bader, Maynard, and Lesnar took doesn't mean his wrestling isn't world class. I read and interview with Bones and after winning the JUCO national championship he had offers from just about every Div I wrestling power, but he didn't see what more wrestling would do for his MMA career. His love is MMA, not wrestling. He was quoted saying he wrestled to establish his base in MMA. This guy is extremely smart and very goal orientated. Bader will not be able to take him down at will. I would say that the wrestlings will cancel each other out and I believe Bones will eat him alive in the stand up. And for those expecting Bones to throw spinning elbows, think again. His fighting IQ is waaay to high for that. Bones fights to his advantages and he has many over Bader.
Yeah, I'm not sure why people are so quick to discount Bader's wrestling advantage. There is a huge difference between being GOOD enough to wrestle for a Division I college and actually doing it for 4 years.
Like Josh Koscheck vs GSP? Or hell, even Donald Cerrone vs Jamie Varner, which is pretty embarrassing because Cerrone's wrestling is a running gag of terribleness on the internet. Varner wasn't D1 though, but that Munoz guy was despite being completely shut down by Okami.
I didn't say it was an advantage. I said Jones' wrestling was at a good enough level to counter Bader's. Bader is one dimensional. I think that is one thing we can ALL agree with. Jones is anything but "one dimensional".
